Campgrounds and RV parks near Petersburg, KY

Petersburg is a small Ohio River community in western Boone County, Kentucky, roughly a half hour from downtown Cincinnati and close to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The town sits at the entry point to a rural, hilly stretch of the river valley and functions well as a base for visitors combining metro-area attractions with river-country camping. Because Petersburg itself has no in-town RV park, most travellers stay at nearby campgrounds. Camp Shore Campground sits directly across the river in Aurora, Indiana, with riverfront sites and dock space. Beyonder Getaway at Rising Sun and BEYONDER Getaway Rising Sun operate a family-oriented resort a short drive west along the Ohio River, and Rising Star RV Park adjoins the Rising Star Casino for adult travellers. Indian Springs Campground LLP rounds out the closest options. Big Bone Lick State Historic Site, about fifteen minutes south of Petersburg, adds a 62-site public campground with utility hookups and is often used as the anchor destination for the area.

Big Bone Lick State Historic Site uses the Kentucky State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. The booking window opens up to 12 months ahead of the arrival date, and reservations must be made at least one day in advance. A one-night minimum applies on weekdays, with a two-night minimum on peak-season weekends and longer minimums during holiday periods. Private parks near Petersburg book through their own websites. Beyonder Getaway at Rising Sun and BEYONDER Getaway Rising Sun, Rising Star RV Park, Camp Shore Campground, and Indian Springs Campground LLP all take direct reservations by phone or online. Summer weekends and holiday weeks fill first, so booking six to eight weeks ahead is prudent for July, August, and October colour weekends.
