Campgrounds and RV parks near Salem, KY

Salem sits in Livingston County in far western Kentucky, part of the Paducah micropolitan area and roughly ten miles from the county seat of Smithland at the confluence of the Ohio and Cumberland rivers. The town is small and rural, with agriculture as its historical backbone, but it works well as a base for RV travellers drawn to the Ohio River corridor and the lakes country to the south. Campground options within easy driving distance skew toward river-oriented parks. Riverview RV Park, Birdsville RV and Campground, and Birdsville Riverside RV Park cluster along the Ohio near the Birdsville boat ramp off KY 137, while Scenic Overlook RV Campground offers additional hookup sites in the area. Across the Ohio in Hardin County, Illinois, Cave-in-Rock State Park adds a public-land option reachable by the Cave-in-Rock ferry from Marion, Kentucky. Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area lies a short drive south, extending the trip-planning radius for families who want to combine a river stay with lake recreation and forest camping.

Private parks in the Salem area, including Riverview RV Park, Birdsville RV and Campground, Birdsville Riverside RV Park, and Scenic Overlook RV Campground, typically take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill first, especially sites with river frontage and full hookups, so booking several weeks ahead is advised. Cave-In-Rock State Park operates on a first-come, first-served basis without a reservation system, offering 34 Class A electric sites and 25 Class B/S tent sites. Arriving on a weekday or early in the day improves the chance of securing a site. Land Between the Lakes campgrounds are booked through the LBL reservation system at lblweb.usedirect.com or by phone, with reservations available 2 days to 6 months in advance.
