Campgrounds and RV parks near Uniontown, KY

The Ohio River defines the local recreation calendar. Boat ramps, bank fishing, and paddling access are common at riverside parks, and the flat terrain makes for easy family biking. John James Audubon State Park features a lake stocked with common warmwater species, plus a museum and nature center on site, and a valid Kentucky fishing license is required. Harmonie State Park Campground gives access to trails for walking, biking, mountain biking, and nature hikes, with the historic town of New Harmony a short drive away. At Cave-in-rock State Park, the namesake cave is a short walk from the campground, and the bluff setting offers Ohio River views and access to nearby Kentucky attractions via the historic Cave-In-Rock Ferry. Higginson-Henry WMA southeast of Morganfield adds trails, fishing at Lake Mauzy, and wildlife viewing.

The camping season in this stretch of the Ohio Valley runs mostly spring through fall. Kentucky State Parks operate on a defined season, with the John James Audubon campground open in the warmer months, and Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, so travelers should contact the park directly for available resources if traveling during months when freezing temperatures are possible. Summer is the peak family season and also the wettest and most humid. Spring brings green-up along the river bottoms but also the risk of Ohio and Wabash River flooding, which can affect low-lying loops at Harmonie State Park and river-adjacent sites. Fall delivers the most reliable weather, with cool nights, lower humidity, and thinner crowds through October. Winter camping is limited. Illinois and Indiana state parks typically keep some sites open year-round with reduced services, while Kentucky State Park campgrounds close for the cold months.

Sites in this region tend to be wooded and shaded. At Harmonie State Park Campground, facilities include a 200-site family campground with electrical hookups and modern restrooms, as well as a youth-group area in a more primitive setting, and the park is located about three miles from the entrance gate, so plan accordingly for check-in. John James Audubon offers both utility and primitive sites near the museum and trailheads. Bring firewood plans that comply with state rules. Kentucky State Parks prohibits the importation of firewood by campers from outside Kentucky in an effort to help prevent the introduction of the Emerald Ash Borer, and firewood is available for sale in state park campgrounds. Cell coverage is generally adequate near the river towns but can drop in wooded park interiors, so download maps before arrival.
