Campgrounds and RV parks near Alexandria, LA

Alexandria sits in central Louisiana at the crossroads of Interstate 49 and US Highway 165, making it a practical staging point for RV travelers exploring the state's piney interior. The city serves as a hub for the surrounding Rapides Parish, with private RV parks along the highways and public recreation areas within a short drive. The biggest natural draw is Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana's only national forest, which covers more than 604,000 acres across seven central and northern parishes and lies just west and southwest of the city. Its Calcasieu Ranger District includes the Evangeline Unit near Alexandria and the Vernon Unit near Leesville, with longleaf pine terrain, lakes, and trails within roughly an hour of town. RV travelers typically choose between full-hookup private parks close to Alexandria and Pineville, such as The Oaks RV Park, Country Living RV Park, River Cities RV Park, Diamond T RV Park, and Red River Valley RV Park, or more rustic public sites at Indian Creek Recreation Area and developed campgrounds inside Kisatchie.

Private RV parks around Alexandria, including The Oaks RV Park, Country Living RV Park, River Cities RV Park, Diamond T RV Park, and Red River Valley RV Park, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Monthly stays are common at these parks, so calling ahead is the best way to confirm nightly availability, especially around events at the Rapides Parish Coliseum. Kisatchie National Forest's developed campgrounds that accept reservations are booked through Recreation.gov, with peak weekends filling early. Dispersed and hunter camps in the forest are typically first-come, first-served. Indian Creek Recreation Area is operated by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, and campsite availability is handled through the LDAF Indian Creek system, with gate codes issued for after-hours arrival.
