Campgrounds and RV parks near Avondale, LA

Avondale sits on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Jefferson Parish, about fifteen minutes by car from downtown New Orleans. RV renters use it as a quieter staging point for trips into the French Quarter, the Barataria Preserve, and the marshes and bayous south of the city. The area is flat, low-elevation, and shaped by water, so most campgrounds are built around bayous, canals, or the river itself. Bayou Segnette State Park in nearby Westwego is the closest full-service public campground, with wooded RV sites at the edge of a cypress swamp. Private options in the metro area include New Orleans KOA Holiday, French Quarter RV Resort near the downtown core, New Orleans RV Resort and Marina, and Riverboat Travel Park along the river corridor. Most sites in the region offer full or partial hookups suitable for larger rigs, and several are within a short drive or rideshare of Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and Louis Armstrong International Airport.

For Bayou Segnette State Park, reservations run through the Louisiana State Parks system at reservelastateparks.com or by phone. Reservations can also be made as a walk-in, with a small nonrefundable transaction fee attached. Booking well in advance is advisable, especially for weekends, holidays, and festival periods in New Orleans, when the park fills quickly. Floating cabins in particular tend to book many months out. Private parks such as New Orleans KOA Holiday, French Quarter RV Resort, New Orleans RV Resort and Marina, and Riverboat Travel Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and Sugar Bowl weekends, plan on booking several months out. Cancellation policies vary by park, so review terms before confirming.
