Campgrounds near Bastrop, Louisiana
Bastrop sits in Morehouse Parish in northeast Louisiana, about 30 miles north of Monroe and roughly 10 miles south of the Arkansas line. RV travelers use the town as a base for Bayou Bartholomew, Bayou Boeuf, and the wider Ouachita River corridor. The mix of camping options runs from a full-service state park to small independent RV parks with monthly rates.
Chemin-A-Haut State Park is located about 10 miles north of Bastrop on a bluff over Bayou Bartholomew and anchors the area. The park offers full hook-up RV camping, a seasonal swimming pool, and overnight cabins, plus freshwater fishing on two stocked lakes. Closer to town, The Oaks on Bussey and Bayou Boeuf RV Park cater to shorter overnight stops and extended stays. The Fishing Camp Tackle & RV Park focuses on anglers.
For travelers willing to drive south toward Monroe, Ouachita Sportsplex adds full-hookup pull-through sites next to a large ball-field complex, useful for families following tournaments.
Things to do around Bastrop
Chemin-A-Haut State Park anchors most trip itineraries. The park's swimming pool is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and two playgrounds in the day-use area are a favorite spot of the younger patrons, as is the wading pool in the swimming complex. The picnic area includes 35 family sites with grills and tables, five group sites, and three shelters. Two stocked lakes hold largemouth bass and bluegill, and boat rentals are available, letting campers get onto Bayou Bartholomew.
Off-park options include the Snyder Museum in Bastrop for Morehouse Parish history, Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge near Monroe with baldcypress and water tupelo trees, and the Poverty Point World Heritage Site in Delhi, a collection of prehistoric earthworks dating back over 3,000 years. Birders can expect over 200 species at the park, including migratory birds and waterfowl.

The Bastrop area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, sticky summers and short, mild winters. Spring, roughly March through May, and mid-fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with mild days and lower humidity. Spring also brings the wettest weather of the year: April is the wettest month, with average rainfall around 136 mm, and severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are possible from spring into early summer.
Summer stays are workable but hot. August is the warmest month, with average highs near 94°F, and humidity is high, so shaded, full-hookup sites with reliable power for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. The state park pool is open Memorial Day weekend to August 1 and closed Monday through Wednesday for maintenance, then runs on a modified schedule from August 1 through Labor Day.
Winters are generally mild but can be raw and damp, with occasional ice or sleet events. Cabins remain a practical fallback when overnight lows dip.
How to book a campsite near Bastrop
Chemin-A-Haut State Park is operated by Louisiana State Parks and reserved through the state's central reservation system. Reservations can be made online at ReserveLaStateParks.com or by calling 833-609-0686. A non-refundable fee is assessed on each reservation transaction made online, via phone, or as a walk-in. For cabins, lodges, and group sites booked 10 or more months in advance, the balance must be paid in full within 30 days or the reservation is canceled. A maximum stay of 15 consecutive days is allowed in the park.
Private parks in the Bastrop and Monroe area, including The Oaks on Bussey, Bayou Boeuf RV Park, The Fishing Camp Tackle & RV Park, and Ouachita Sportsplex, take reservations directly by phone or through the operators' websites.
What to expect on arrival
Chemin-A-Haut has 26 campsites, each with water and electricity, and a nearby dump station and comfort station with showers and restrooms; sewer hookups have since been added at campsites. Cabins are furnished with basic kitchen utensils, pots, bed linens, pillows, and towels, and group camps are furnished with pots, basic kitchen utensils, and bunk beds, so guests bring their own pillows, linens, towels, and paper products. Pets are not allowed in any buildings, including cabins and lodges, and all park buildings are smoke-free environments.
There is currently no Wi-Fi in the campground and deluxe cabins, and cell phones often do not work in remote areas including many park sites, so downloading maps and confirmations in advance is smart. Private parks in and around Bastrop and Monroe typically have flatter gravel pads, full hookups, and easier connectivity, but sites can be tightly spaced. Check-in windows and quiet hours vary by park.

bastropla.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Bastrop, Louisiana?
Good news: a regular Class E (standard) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bastrop, Louisiana. The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every RV on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during checkout, so there are no extra trips to a DMV office. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to hit Interstate 20.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, so you'll get consistent treatment whether you rent in Bastrop or anywhere else in Louisiana. There's a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply depending on how far in advance you cancel before your trip starts. Before you confirm, review the cancellation details shown at checkout so you know your timeline. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy will help you find a replacement RV or provide a refund. That flexibility makes it easy to lock in your dates now.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bastrop?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Bastrop and the surrounding Morehouse Parish area. Just check the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome, often with a small cleaning fee. Bastrop is a great pet base too: Chemin-A-Haut State Park, about 10 miles north on LA-425, allows leashed pets on its trails and campsites, and the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge a short drive south near Monroe welcomes leashed pets on its trails and boardwalk. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet size, breed, and whether they allow pets to be left inside the RV while you explore.
fws.gov/refuge/black-bayou-lakeCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Bastrop?
Yes, RV delivery in Bastrop is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the RV to Chemin-A-Haut State Park, Oaks on Bussey RV Park, or even your private property in Morehouse Parish, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy and enter your destination address to see hosts who offer this service and their per-mile fee. It turns your motorhome rental in Bastrop into a true turnkey getaway: show up, unpack groceries, and start your campfire. Pro tip: book delivery for a Thursday arrival to dodge weekend setup rushes.
lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/chemin-a-haut-state-parkHow does mileage work and how far can I drive from Bastrop?
Most Bastrop hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for longer Louisiana road trips. From Bastrop you're well-positioned for big adventures: Vicksburg, MS is about 90 miles east (under 2 hours), Shreveport sits roughly 130 miles west on I-20, Hot Springs, AR is around 200 miles north, and New Orleans is about 280 miles south (a 5-hour drive). Each listing on RVezy clearly shows the included mileage and any per-mile overage rate before you book. Pro tip: if you're planning to circle out toward the Ozarks or Gulf Coast, filter specifically for unlimited-mileage listings to keep your budget predictable.
dotd.la.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Bastrop, LA?
You've got several solid options for RV camping in Bastrop within a short drive. Chemin-A-Haut State Park, about 10 miles north on LA-425, is the local favorite with 26 full-hookup RV sites, shaded pull-throughs along Chemin-A-Haut Bayou, a pool, and cabins. LA 425 North RV Park sits just 1 mile from the state park with 10 full-hookup pads and 30/50-amp service, great for big rigs. Oaks on Bussey RV Park in Bastrop is newer, landscaped, and pet-friendly. Heading south, Pavilion RV Park in West Monroe (about 30 miles away) offers full hookups in the $30 to $34 range. Pro tip: state park sites at Chemin-A-Haut can be booked up to 13 months ahead through the Louisiana State Parks reservation system.
lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/chemin-a-haut-state-parkWhat's the best time of year for an RV trip in Bastrop?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Bastrop is mid-March through late May and again from mid-September through early November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80 degree Fahrenheit range and humidity backs off. Summers in northeast Louisiana run hot and sticky, with July and August highs frequently hitting 92 to 95 degrees and heat index values well above 100, so you'll want an RV with strong air conditioning if you travel then. Winters are mild (40s to 60s), making December through February a quiet, budget-friendly option for snowbirds. Pro tip: target the last weekend in September if you want to combine your Bastrop RV trip with the North Louisiana Cotton Festival and Fair right in town.
weather.gov/shv/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Bastrop?
Yes, Bastrop is honestly one of the easier places in the country to start out, which makes it ideal if it's your first time renting an RV. Roads like US-165, LA-2, and LA-425 are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked compared to a major metro. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, slides, the dump valves, and driving tips, and you can text or call them anytime during your trip with questions. Roadside assistance is included 24/7 on every booking too. Pro tip: do a short practice loop around the empty parking lot at Morehouse Parish Fairgrounds before heading out, so you get a feel for the turning radius before merging onto I-20.
dotd.la.gov/What happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on US-425 or a dead battery at Chemin-A-Haut State Park is just a quick phone call away. Roadside service handles tows, jump-starts, lockouts, tire changes, and fuel delivery, including the rural stretches of Morehouse and Union parishes around Bastrop. For mechanical questions specific to the RV, your host is your second lifeline (they know their rig best), and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave the driveway, and screenshot your host's contact info in case you hit a low-signal area.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Bastrop RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Absolutely, interstate travel is welcome and Bastrop's location near three state lines makes it a fantastic RV road trip from Bastrop launch point. You're about 25 miles from Arkansas, 75 miles from Mississippi, and easy day-drives put you in Texas as well, all covered under your standard RVezy booking. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and confirmation of insurance coverage, so message the host directly through the listing before booking if that's your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: popular multi-state loops from Bastrop include Hot Springs, AR (about 200 miles), Memphis, TN (about 230 miles), and the Natchez Trace Parkway entrance near Natchez, MS (about 140 miles).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Plan realistically and you'll have plenty of money left for boudin and crawfish along the way. Class C motorhomes around Bastrop typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon on regular gasoline, Class A gas rigs about 6 to 8 mpg, campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer usually 10 to 13 mpg. Northeast Louisiana gas prices are consistently among the lowest in the country, often 30 to 50 cents per gallon cheaper than the national average, with major stations along US-165 in Bastrop and at I-20 exits in Monroe. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, budget around $120 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Bastrop before heading into Arkansas, where pump prices typically tick up.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bastrop?
You've got more flexibility here than in tourist-heavy regions, but a little planning still helps. Chemin-A-Haut State Park accepts reservations up to 13 months ahead through the official Louisiana State Parks reservation system (reserveamerica.com), and weekends from April through October fill up 2 to 3 months out, especially during the North Louisiana Cotton Festival and holiday weekends. Private parks like LA 425 North RV Park and Oaks on Bussey can often be booked 2 to 4 weeks ahead, and weekday stays are frequently available same-day. For Black Bayou and Lake D'Arbonne State Park sites, aim for at least a month of lead time in spring. Pro tip: book your RVezy rental first, then your campground, since RV size affects which sites you can use.
lastateparks.com/What are local driving conditions like around Bastrop?
Driving an RV around Bastrop is refreshingly low-stress: terrain is flat, elevations top out around 150 feet, and traffic is light outside the brief weekday rush near downtown and the Morehouse Parish schools. US-165 and LA-2 are the main RV-friendly corridors, both well-maintained with wide shoulders. Watch for occasional log trucks on rural highways, deer at dawn and dusk on LA-139 and LA-593, and summer pop-up thunderstorms that can bring heavy rain and gusty winds, especially June through September. Winter ice is rare but possible in January. Pro tip: avoid driving during a tornado watch (most common March through May) and use the free LA 511 traffic site to check for road closures before any longer Louisiana RV trip leg.
511la.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Bastrop?
Most campgrounds near Bastrop deliver the essentials and then some. Chemin-A-Haut State Park offers full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer at most sites), a swimming pool, hot showers, a playground, and a boat launch on the bayou. LA 425 North RV Park provides 10 full-hookup pull-through sites with 30/50-amp service. Pavilion RV Park in West Monroe includes laundry and Wi-Fi. For dump stations and potable water fills between stops, most full-service Louisiana state parks offer free dump access to registered campers, and many Pilot/Flying J locations along I-20 have public dumps for a small fee. Pro tip: cell service can be spotty at Chemin-A-Haut, so download offline maps and any streaming entertainment before you arrive.
lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/chemin-a-haut-state-parkWhat's typically included inside a Bastrop RV rental?
You'll be impressed how well-equipped Bastrop RV rentals come straight from the host. Expect comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 (queen beds, bunks, convertible dinettes), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and basic cookware, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (a must in Louisiana heat), heat for cooler months, and seatbelts for everyone riding in a motorized RV. Many listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a generator for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi is usually BYO hotspot. Check the Amenities section of each listing for the full inventory. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps 6+ if you're bringing the family, so you don't have to guess.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bastrop,LouisianaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Bastrop?
RV rental in Bastrop, LA comes with lots of useful add-ons that can make your trip smoother. Common host extras include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, generators, portable grills, bike racks, camp chairs and tables, fishing gear, and even kayak rentals (handy for Bayou Bartholomew). Mileage policies vary by listing, with most offering 100 to 150 included miles per day plus a per-mile overage rate shown on each listing. Pro tip: bundle linens and a generator at booking rather than buying them on the road, since Bastrop has limited camping supply retailers after 6 PM.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bastrop,LouisianaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, and the platform holds funds until your trip begins, so you and the host are both protected. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit that's pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged unless there's damage or a clear policy violation like smoking or extra cleaning. The hold is released within a few days of returning the RV in good shape. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short walkaround video of the RV at both pickup and dropoff so any deposit questions are easy to resolve.
