Campgrounds and RV parks near Blanchard, LA

Caddo Lake dominates the outdoor scene. The lake straddles the Louisiana-Texas border and holds one of the largest bald cypress forests in the country, with paddling trails, guided swamp tours, bass and crappie fishing, and alligator viewing from marked boat lanes. Closer to town, Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park offers hiking loops, a nature center, and easy day-use access. Downtown Shreveport and Bossier City add riverboat casinos, the Louisiana Boardwalk shopping district, Barksdale Air Force Base's Global Power Museum, and the Red River National Wildlife Refuge for birding. Families traveling by RV often combine a Caddo Lake paddling day with a Shreveport museum stop and an evening back at camp. A valid Texas fishing license is required for anyone aged 17 and older on the Texas side of Caddo Lake, and Louisiana requires its own license, so plan permits before launch.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in northwest Louisiana. March through May brings wildflowers, active fishing, and daytime highs in the seventies, and it is also one of the wettest stretches of the year. Rainfall is abundant with the normal annual rain just over 51 inches, with monthly averages ranging less than 3 inches in August to more than 5 inches in May and June. May in particular can produce heavy thunderstorms and occasional severe weather, so travelers should monitor forecasts and choose sites with good drainage. Summers are hot and humid, with highs regularly in the low nineties and heat indices well above one hundred. Shaded sites, working air conditioning, and early-morning outdoor plans make a real difference. Mosquitoes and biting flies are heavy around Caddo Lake from late spring through early fall. Winters are short and mild, with masses of moderate to severely cold air moving periodically through the area. Most private RV parks in the region stay open year-round, and the shoulder months of October, November, and March tend to offer the best mix of open availability and pleasant weather.

Sites in the region are generally level with gravel or concrete pads, water and electric hookups at thirty or fifty amps, and sewer connections at most full-service parks. Wi-Fi and cable are common but signal strength varies, and cell coverage is reliable across the major carriers near Shreveport. Expect pine and hardwood shade at many sites, along with heavy pollen in spring and abundant insects in warmer months. Alligators live in Caddo Lake and its bayous, so keep pets leashed near water and do not leave food outside overnight. Firewood should be sourced locally to reduce the spread of invasive pests. Most parks are pet friendly and offer laundry, bathhouses, and dump stations. Bigger rigs should confirm site length and turning radius when booking, especially at the smaller privately owned campgrounds.
