Campgrounds and RV parks near Calhoun, LA

Outdoor activity in the area centers on water and trails. The lake at Lincoln Parish Park is the central feature, with kayak rentals available on-site, a walking path circling the water, and an 11-mile trail system that accommodates both hikers and mountain bikers. Riders describe the mountain bike course as a highlight of a north Louisiana stop. Fishing is a strong draw across the region. Lake D'Arbonne, north of Calhoun near Farmerville, is known for crappie and bass, and D'Arbonne Pointe puts campers close to the water. Closer to town, Monroe offers the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo, the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens, and Kiroli Park in West Monroe for a rainy-day option. The beach at Lincoln Parish Park has lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day, giving families a supervised swim area during the peak travel window.

Monroe experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters, and that shapes how RV travelers use the region. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for tent-and-awning camping, with mild days and cooler nights. Summer travel is workable but plan for humid afternoons and pop-up thunderstorms; shaded, tree-canopy sites are worth prioritizing. Rainfall is abundant and spread fairly evenly throughout the year, though heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can occur during warmer months, and the area receives little snowfall annually. Low-lying sites near bayous and lake edges can hold water after storms, so check ground conditions if severe weather has moved through. Most private RV parks in the Calhoun and Monroe area operate year-round, and Lincoln Parish Park is open all year as well. The park's swim beach is seasonal, running from Memorial Day through Labor Day. North Louisiana sits within the broader Gulf hurricane influence zone, and late summer through early fall can bring inland rain and wind from tropical systems tracking up from the coast.

Expect flat, easy-to-level sites at most parks in the Calhoun corridor. RV sites at Lincoln Parish Park are paved, wide, and come with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, and the campground is big-rig friendly with paved roads in good condition. Gated each evening at 6 p.m., Lincoln Parish Park operates more like a managed recreation area than a typical county campground, with 33 RV sites, a separate primitive section, and a lake that most spots face directly. A gate code is issued at check-in for after-hours access. Private parks along I-20 tend to run smaller, with laundry, Wi-Fi, and long-term guests. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the Monroe and Ruston corridor. Lincoln Parish Park allows leashed pets and offers free Wi-Fi, and leashed pets are welcome at most other sites in the area.
