Campgrounds and RV parks near Claiborne, LA

Fishing anchors the local trip list. The Ouachita River runs through Monroe and West Monroe, and Lake Claiborne to the west is stocked with largemouth and striped bass, bluegill sunfish, channel catfish, black crappie, chain pickerel, bream, and white perch. The Fishing Camp Tackle & RV Park caters directly to anglers working area waters. Families typically pair camping with the Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo, the Biedenharn Museum & Gardens, and Kiroli Park in West Monroe. Sports groups often base at Ouachita Sportsplex during tournaments. For a day trip, Lake Claiborne State Park offers the top two disc golf courses in Louisiana, a sandy swim beach, and rentals for kayaks, canoes, and flat-bottom boats. Hiking is limited but present, with short trails at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge and around Lake Claiborne State Park.

North Louisiana has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters. Rainfall is abundant and spread fairly evenly throughout the year, though heavy seasonal downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common during warmer months. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Spring runs mild but wet, with April historically the wettest month and frequent thunderstorm activity. It is also a peak period for crappie and bass fishing on area lakes, so waterfront sites at parks like The Fishing Camp Tackle & RV Park and Ouachita RV Park tend to book earlier than shoulder-season norms would suggest. Summer is hot and humid, with highs commonly in the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit and heat indices higher. Shade and full 50-amp service matter. Fall cools noticeably after mid-October and brings some of the clearest weather of the year, ideal for extended stays. Winters are cool rather than cold, with occasional freezes; the area receives little snowfall annually, and most private RV parks operate year-round.

Private parks in the Claiborne corridor are typically level, gravel or paved, and pull-through friendly, with full hookups and 30/50-amp service. Sites near I-20 trade some road noise for quick access; properties along the Ouachita River offer a quieter setting. Cell coverage is strong throughout Ouachita Parish, and grocery, fuel, and RV supply stores are close in West Monroe and Monroe. At Lake Claiborne State Park expect a wooded, hilly setting on the slopes above the reservoir. The campground accommodates larger RVs and tent campers, though the terrain often requires leveling blocks. Bathhouses provide hot showers year-round. Bugs, especially mosquitoes and gnats, are heavy from late spring through early fall. Bring repellent, and check for burn bans before planning campfires.
