Campgrounds and RV parks near Eastwood, LA

Fishing is the headline activity. Lake Bistineau is known for crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, and bream, and the state park offers two boat launches when the lake is at full pool. Cypress Black Bayou holds bass and catfish across its 3,000-acre and 700-acre lakes, and Red River South Marina-Resort provides direct access to the Red River pool. Beyond angling, Cypress Black Bayou has a sandy swimming beach, a small zoo and nature center, nature trails, and cabins. Lake Bistineau State Park adds nearly 10 miles of woodland trails, an 11-mile canoe trail, disc golf, and picnic areas along the lakeshore. Off-water, Shreveport-Bossier City is about 20 minutes away and provides museums, casinos, restaurants, and an aquarium for a rainy-day break from camp.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in this part of Louisiana. March through May brings warming temperatures and active fishing, but it is also the wettest stretch, with April typically the rainiest month and thunderstorms common. Sites near the water can flood during heavy rain events. Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs frequently in the 90s and heat indices well above that. The beach at Cypress Black Bayou and the shaded, tree-lined sites at Lake Bistineau State Park help, but biting insects, including chiggers and ticks, are active. Alligators are present in area lakes and bayous, so pets should be leashed and kept back from shorelines. A planning note specific to Lake Bistineau: the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries draws the lake down from around August through mid-November each year to help control invasive giant salvinia, and the state park boat launch closes during that period. Winter camping remains possible, but expect cool, damp weather and occasional freezes.

Most RV parks in the area offer full or partial hookups with 30 and 50 amp service. Cypress Black Bayou has 73 RV sites, 28 with full hookups and 45 with water and electric, plus bathhouses, a dump station at the park exit, and a gated entry. Red River South Marina-Resort is RV-focused with full hookups. Lake Bistineau State Park offers improved campsites with water and electric service, but no sewer at individual sites; a central dump station serves the campground. Cell coverage on major carriers is generally usable, though speeds vary by site. Expect Spanish moss, cypress knees at the waterline, and plenty of shade. Bring insect repellent, and confirm burn-ban status before planning a campfire, since Bossier and Webster parishes issue seasonal bans during dry stretches.
