Campgrounds and RV parks near Folsom, LA

The Bogue Chitto River is the main draw for paddlers and tubers, with sandbars, cypress-tupelo swamps, and shoal areas inside Bogue Chitto State Park. The park also has mountain-bike trails and an equestrian trail network tied to the Equestrian loop, plus eleven lakes stocked with freshwater fish. Families staying at Land-O-Pines Family Campground Inc. or Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Robert will find on-site pools, splash pads, and organized activities that suit shorter attention spans. Reunion Lake RV Resort adds a lake and a lazy river geared toward adults. Off-site, day trips include the Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, the Tammany Trace rail-trail, Abita Springs, and Hammond. New Orleans is a reasonable day trip when traffic cooperates.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV camping near Folsom. From March through May, daytime highs climb from the low seventies in March into the mid-eighties by May, wildflowers bloom along the Bogue Chitto, and river levels are usually good for paddling. October and November bring cooler nights, lower humidity, and thinner mosquito pressure, which is why weekends at Bogue Chitto State Park book out early in these months. Summer is hot, humid, and prone to afternoon thunderstorms. July and August bring peak temperatures with average highs near 92°F, so full-hookup sites with reliable fifty-amp service become important because air conditioning runs around the clock. This is also Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks from August through October and can force short-notice closures on the Northshore. Winter is mild but wet. January is the coldest month, with an average high near 61°F and average low near 39°F. Most parks remain open year-round, and lower occupancy makes it a good time for retirees and snowbirds passing between Texas and Florida.

Sites in this area are generally level and shaded by tall pines and hardwoods. Cell coverage is solid on major carriers along the I-12 and I-55 corridors and adequate at most private parks; expect weaker signal deep inside Bogue Chitto State Park. Expect wildlife: white-tailed deer, armadillos, raccoons, and, per park advisories, snakes and alligators along the Bogue Chitto River, so exercise caution and avoid swimming in the river. Insects are a real factor from April through October, so screens, repellent, and a properly sealed rig matter. Fire ants are present; check the ground before setting out chairs. Roads into the private resorts are paved and pull-through friendly. Some state park loops involve tighter turns and lower overhead clearance under mature trees, which is worth planning for with a longer fifth wheel or Class A.
