Campgrounds and RV parks near Glenmora, LA

Water recreation anchors most trips. Lake Chicot offers fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish, with three boat launches and boat rental facilities on site. Kincaid Lake, a 2,600-acre reservoir in the Calcasieu Ranger District, and nearby Valentine Lake add paddling and swim-beach options within Kisatchie. On land, hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy more than 20 miles of trails around Lake Chicot, plus an 8-mile canoe trail through the tree-filled lake at Chicot. Equestrians staying at Rustic Sky Horse Camp can reach forest multi-use trails directly from the property. Families often pair camping with a stop at the Louisiana State Arboretum, located within Chicot State Park, home to a mature beech-magnolia forest, an outdoor classroom, and several miles of nature trails with labeled native plants.

Central Louisiana runs on a long, hot camping calendar. The humid subtropical climate brings hot, humid summers with afternoon highs regularly above 90°F and mild winters, though occasional cold snaps can drop temperatures below freezing. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with lower humidity and fewer biting insects. Fall in particular offers pleasant weather and minimal mosquitoes. Summer trips are workable with a well-cooled rig, but afternoon thunderstorms are common and these months also coincide with Atlantic hurricane season, which can bring severe weather inland. Alligators and snakes are active in warm months around Lake Chicot, so families should keep pets leashed and supervise kids near the water. Winter camping is quiet and mild, with highs typically in the upper 50s and lows near freezing on the coldest nights. Chicot State Park and most nearby private parks are open year-round, so bookings thin out considerably from December through February.

Expect tall pines, red-dirt forest roads, and warm, humid air for most of the year. Chicot State Park stays open year-round, with drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, tables, fire rings, and grills at each site. The South Landing area holds 108 camping spurs with water and electricity, plus a boat launch, fishing pier, and dock with rental boats, while the North Landing adds more campsites, a 400-foot fishing pier, and lodges on the north side of the lake. Cell service is spotty in the national forest, and some forest service roads can be rough after rain. Wildlife viewing includes alligators, wading birds, and deer, so store food securely and keep pets close, especially near the water.
