Campgrounds and RV parks near Martin, LA

Fishing drives most trip planning here. At Lake Bistineau, the yo-yo season starts in January and continues through spring, summer, and early fall, with anglers targeting black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow bass, catfish, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish. The Red River oxbows and the Grand Bayou Reservoir add bass, catfish, and open water for skiing and pontoon days. On land, Lake Bistineau State Park has roughly 10 miles of multi-use hiking and biking trails, a disc golf course near the group camp, and a separate equestrian trail with corral and stalls. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent inside the park. Natchitoches, about 30 minutes south, is Louisiana's oldest city and worth a day trip for its historic district, Cane River plantations, and the Grand Ecore bluff overlooking the Red River.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Martin. The area has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. March through May brings mild days and the heart of the crappie and bass bite; October and November combine cooler nights, thinner crowds, and generally drier weather for hiking and paddling. Summers are hot, humid, and buggy, with July and August highs regularly near 95 degrees. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June into August, so shaded, full-hookup sites with 50-amp service are worth targeting to keep air conditioning running. Winters are short and generally mild but wet, with occasional freezes and January lows around 40 degrees. One planning note specific to this area: the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries conducts an annual Lake Bistineau drawdown from roughly August through November to combat invasive salvinia, and the state park boat launch closes when water levels are too low for safe launching.

Most private RV parks in the area offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, gravel or concrete pads, and pull-through options for larger rigs. Grand Bayou Resort has around 60 sites with a mix of back-ins and pull-throughs, plus laundry, showers, a marina, and a swimming beach. State park sites are more rustic. Lake Bistineau State Park has roughly 61 improved and premium RV campsites with water and 20/30/50-amp electric hookups, restrooms with showers, and a central dump station, but no individual sewer hookups. Cell coverage in the pines can be spotty at lakeside sites. Bring insect repellent year-round, watch for ticks and chiggers off-trail, and expect shaded, sometimes uneven ground at the more natural lakefront sites.
