Campgrounds and RV parks near Montgomery, LA

Kisatchie National Forest anchors outdoor recreation in the area. The Winn Ranger District covers over 164,000 acres in Winn, Natchitoches, and Grant Parishes and offers upland pine terrain, the Saline Bayou National Wild and Scenic River, and the Gum Springs Recreation Complex, which reflects Civilian Conservation Corps design from the 1930s and sits near Gum Springs Horse Camp and Trail. Water-based activities include fishing and boating on the Red River. Grand Ecore RV Park sits next to a three-lane concrete boat launch with a floating dock and is on Bayou Pierre just minutes from Natchitoches, giving direct access to the Red River. Anglers across Kisatchie can hook catfish, bass, perch, and more. Historic Natchitoches, a short drive north, offers a walkable downtown, Cane River plantations, and film locations. Off-roaders head to Louisiana Mudfest Recreational Park for ATV, UTV, and mud-truck weekends.

Central Louisiana has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, mild winters, and rainfall in every month. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with daytime highs typically in the 70s Fahrenheit and lower humidity than mid-summer. Wild azaleas and dogwoods bloom in the Kisatchie during spring, and mixed hardwoods add color from late October into November. Summer is hot and oppressive. July is the warmest month with an average high near 93 degrees Fahrenheit, and July and August share the highest average lows near 73 degrees. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and the four off-highway vehicle trails across Vernon, Rapides, Grant, and Natchitoches Parishes may close due to excessive rainfall, so travelers should confirm trail status before heading out via the OHV hotline at 318-473-7069. Winters are short and generally mild but wet, with occasional freezes. Peak booking pressure comes during the Natchitoches Christmas Festival of Lights in December, when RV parks near town fill early. Trucks Gone Wild weekends at Louisiana Mudfest Recreational Park, typically held in spring, also draw large crowds.

Private RV parks in the Montgomery and Natchitoches area generally offer full hookups, concrete or paved pads, and pull-through sites suitable for larger rigs. Grand Ecore RV Park has 59 sites, split between 24 pull-through and 35 back-in, with asphalt roads and concrete pads, water, sewer, and electric at each site, an activity center with a full kitchen, high-speed WiFi, and a bathhouse with 12 individual restrooms with showers and a laundry room. A 2.5-mile asphalt trail was added during recent upgrades. Kisatchie campgrounds range from developed loops with paved roads and restrooms to primitive sites. Cell coverage is patchy in the deeper forest sections. Travelers should bring bug spray for warm months and expect logging trucks and rural two-lane highways on approach roads.
