Campgrounds near Olla, Louisiana
Olla sits in northwest LaSalle Parish in the Louisiana Central Hill Country, roughly halfway between Monroe and Alexandria along US Highway 165. The town is small, but its position on a major north-south corridor makes it a practical base for RV travellers exploring the pine hills and lake country of north-central Louisiana.
Camping options within easy driving distance range from private RV parks with full hookups to a full-service state park on a large reservoir. Diamond T RV Park and Country Living RV Park serve travellers looking for straightforward hookup sites close to town, while Flynn's Camping Grounds offers a rural setting nearby. Louisiana Mudfest Recreational Park adds an off-road recreation angle for guests with ATVs or side-by-sides.
For a longer stay with lake access, Jimmie Davis State Park on Caney Lake provides the region's most developed public campground, with paved sites, cabins, and a swim beach roughly an hour's drive from Olla.
Things to do near Olla
Water recreation anchors most trips to the area. Jimmie Davis State Park sits on a peninsula of Caney Lake and offers two boat launches, a fishing pier, waterskiing on clear water, and a swim beach with a splash pad and playground. The lake is known for largemouth bass and red ear sunfish, with state-record catches recorded here, so anglers should pack a Louisiana recreational fishing licence, required for everyone age 16 and up.
Off the water, the surrounding pine and hardwood forest supports birding, cycling, and walking on park trails. Louisiana Mudfest Recreational Park hosts mud bogs, off-road trails, and periodic live music events popular with 4x4 and side-by-side owners.
In town, Olla's small historic district and community events give families a low-key stop between longer outings.

The area has a humid subtropical climate, so the shoulder seasons are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping. Spring, from March through May, brings warming days, blooming forest, and the lake warming up for swimming and skiing. Fall carries mild days, lower humidity, and generally drier conditions than the wetter winter and spring months.
Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs regularly in the low 90s Fahrenheit and afternoon thunderstorms common. June through November coincides with Atlantic hurricane season, which can push tropical moisture and wind inland even this far from the coast. State park water playgrounds run seasonally and close one weekday for cleaning.
Winter is short and generally mild, with January lows around 40 degrees Fahrenheit and only rare snow. Jimmie Davis State Park is open year-round, and cabins stay bookable through the cooler months, which is a good option if overnight temperatures dip below freezing.
How to book Olla-area campgrounds
Jimmie Davis State Park is reserved through the Louisiana State Parks system, either online via the Go Outdoors Louisiana portal or by phone at 1-833-609-0686. Reservations can be made up to 13 months in advance, must be made at least 48 hours ahead of arrival, and carry a two-night minimum on weekends.
A non-refundable transaction fee applies to every reservation, and cancellation or transfer fees increase inside 14 days of arrival. Park staff recommend booking well ahead for stays in spring and fall weekends, when sites fill quickly.
Private parks near Olla, including Diamond T RV Park, Country Living RV Park, Flynn's Camping Grounds, and Louisiana Mudfest Recreational Park, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Event weekends at Mudfest sell out camping early.
What to expect on arrival
Roads leading to campgrounds around Olla are mostly rural, and stretches can be narrow, dark, and winding at night. Plan arrivals with daylight to spare and take breaks every couple of hours on the drive in.
Jimmie Davis State Park charges a per-person day-use fee at the entrance station, collected on top of camping fees, with free entry for young children and seniors age 62 and up. Sites are paved with picnic tables and fire rings, a comfort station with showers and laundry serves campers, and a 15 mph speed limit and 9 pm to 6 am quiet hours are enforced.
Cell coverage is spotty in wooded areas and around the lake, so download maps and reservation confirmations before leaving the highway. Pets are welcome at campsites but not inside cabins or lodges except in designated pet-friendly units, which carry a per-dog surcharge.
