Campgrounds and RV parks near Pearl River, LA

Honey Island Swamp tours launch from docks minutes off Interstate 10 and remain the top draw for families. Guided flat-boat trips typically spot alligators, wading birds, and raccoons along cypress-lined bayous within the Pearl River WMA's bottomland hardwood forests and cypress-tupelo swamps. Paddlers can put in at boat ramps along U.S. Highway 90 or at the concrete ramps at Davis and Crawford Landings. Anglers target bass and catfish in the WMA's streams, bayous, and ponds. Cyclists head to the 31-mile Tammany Trace, a paved rail-trail that connects Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, Lacombe, and Slidell. New Orleans is a 40-minute drive south for day trips to the French Quarter, City Park, or the National WWII Museum.

Spring and fall are the practical windows for RV travel here. Daytime highs sit in the seventies, humidity is lower than in summer, and mosquito pressure eases. Spring also brings migratory songbirds through the Honey Island Swamp and blooming wildflowers along WMA trails. Summer runs hot and wet. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September. Campground operators on the Northshore and coastal Mississippi routinely close or evacuate ahead of named storms, so travelers should track NOAA National Hurricane Center advisories and confirm cancellation policies before booking peak-summer trips. Winters are mild but wet. The Pearl River WMA has flat terrain with poor drainage and is subject to annual flooding. When the river gauge at the town of Pearl River reaches 16.5 feet, an automatic benchmark set by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission closes Old Highway 11 into the WMA, along with the Honey Island Shooting Range, until levels recede and roads are inspected. Hunting seasons also affect WMA access from fall through late winter.

Sites in this part of Louisiana are typically flat and grassy or gravel, with full or partial hookups at private parks. Cell coverage is generally reliable in the town of Pearl River and along Interstate 10, but drops inside the WMA and deeper swamp areas. Biting insects are a year-round consideration, with mosquitoes and gnats heaviest from late spring through early fall. Alligators are present in bayous and drainage ditches, so families should keep small children and pets away from water edges. Standing water and mud after heavy rain are common at low-lying campgrounds. Travelers should bring a surge protector and check hookup voltage on arrival, carry drinking water for day trips into the WMA, and plan grocery stops in Slidell or Pearl River before heading toward Crawford Landing, where services thin out quickly.
