Campgrounds and RV parks near Ringgold, LA

Fishing is the headline activity. Lake Bistineau is known for black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow bass, catfish, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish, with a productive season that begins in January and runs through the spring, summer, and early fall. Flat-bottom boats, canoes, and kayaks can be rented at Lake Bistineau State Park, and paddlers can explore an 11-mile canoe trail plus small islands scattered across the lake. On land, the state park has close to 10 miles of woodland trails, a section devoted to horseback riding, and an 18-hole disc golf course near the group camp. Wildlife viewing is easy along the shoreline, where alligators, wading birds, and Spanish moss-draped cypress are common. For day trips, Shreveport offers the R.W. Norton Art Gallery and the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, and Minden has the Germantown Colony Museum.

Spring and early summer are the most comfortable windows for RV camping near Ringgold. From March through May, and again in October and November, daytime temperatures are mild, humidity is lower, and outdoor time is easier for families with kids. Wildflowers appear along the trails in spring, and fall brings clearer skies plus better fishing along the cypress edges. Summer is hot and humid. July and August in the Shreveport area routinely see afternoon highs in the mid-90s Fahrenheit, with pop-up thunderstorms and heavy humidity. Sites with shade and a 50-amp hookup for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Hurricane season also runs through this window, though inland Ringgold usually sees remnant rain rather than direct impacts. A local quirk to plan around: Lake Bistineau is subject to an annual drawdown to help control invasive giant salvinia. The water control structure typically opens in late July or early August and is closed on or around November 15, so late-summer and fall boaters should confirm current water levels before arrival. Louisiana state parks are open 365 days a year, and cabins at Lake Bistineau have central air and heat for year-round use.

At Lake Bistineau State Park, improved campsites include water and electric hookups with nearby restrooms, showers, and a dump station. There is no sewer at individual sites. Many pads sit within view of the lake and include a picnic table, fire ring, and a wooden deck. Cell coverage is present but limited on some carriers, and there is no campground Wi-Fi, so plan for offline entertainment. Private resorts in the area, such as Grand Bayou Resort and Red River South Marina-Resort, typically offer more full-hookup pull-through options along with direct water access, marinas, and fishing amenities. Insects can be heavy in warm months, so bring repellent. Check for parish burn bans before planning a campfire, particularly in dry summer and fall stretches, since Webster and neighboring parishes issue bans regularly.
