Campgrounds and RV parks near Sibley, LA

Fishing drives most trips here. Beginning in January with the yo-yo season and lasting through spring, summer, and early fall, anglers pull crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and sunfish from Lake Bistineau. Visitors without a boat can rent flat-bottom boats, canoes, and kayaks at the state park and paddle out among the cypress-lined coves. On land, Lake Bistineau State Park offers woodland hiking trails, a waterfront disc golf course, and an equestrian trail. Day trips into Shreveport-Bossier City add museums, riverfront casinos, and dining. In nearby Minden, the Germantown Colony Museum covers local history and 19th-century settlement heritage.

Spring and fall bring the most comfortable conditions for RV travel around Sibley. Days are warm, humidity is lower than in summer, and campgrounds are typically less crowded than during peak summer weekends. Crappie fishing on Lake Bistineau is strong through spring, and fall brings cooler evenings along the shoreline. Summers are hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Travelers should also plan around Lake Bistineau's recurring drawdown, scheduled by LDWF to help control the spread of giant salvinia and to enhance fish habitat by reducing organic material on the lake bottom. In recent years the drawdown has started in late July or early August, with the water control structure closed on or around November 15, allowing the lake to refill during the waterfowl season and ahead of early spring recreational use. During drawdowns, boaters can still access the lake from launches such as Port of Bistineau, Bossier, Grice's, and Bayou Dorcheat, though clearance is reduced. Winters are short and generally mild, with occasional cold snaps. The state park stays open through the off-season, so anglers and quiet-season campers can visit year-round.

Lake Bistineau State Park offers a mix of site types. There are 67 improved campsites with water and electricity, nearby restrooms, showers, and a dump station, plus a rally campground for groups. A group camp in Area 1 provides sleeping quarters for up to 160 people in 20 cabins, a fully equipped kitchen, and a swimming pool. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash no more than six feet long and under supervision at all times. Private parks in the area lean toward full hookups, level pads, and easier big-rig access, while the state park delivers a more wooded setting with lake views from many sites. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town and along I-20 but can drop in wooded sections along the lake. Bring insect repellent from late spring through early fall.
