Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. March through May brings mild temperatures, blooming dogwoods, and strong bass fishing on the Ouachita and Lake D'Arbonne, though thunderstorms and occasional severe weather move through. September through November cools off after Labor Day and generally has the driest, most stable weather of the year, making it a popular stretch for longer stays.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs regularly in the 90s Fahrenheit and heavy humidity. Sites are usually available, but shaded spots and 50-amp service for air conditioning matter. Mosquitoes and biting flies are active near the river and refuges.
Winter is mild by North-American standards but wet. Freezes happen but rarely last long, and most local RV parks stay open all year. Hunters and snowbirds passing between the Gulf Coast and the Midwest use the area as a stopover during this season.
