Campgrounds near Stonewall, Louisiana
Stonewall sits in DeSoto Parish just south of Shreveport, along the US-171 corridor in northwest Louisiana. The area works well as a base for RV travelers heading to Shreveport-Bossier City, the Red River, or Toledo Bend Reservoir farther south. Most RV parks near Stonewall cluster around the I-49 and Shreveport metro area rather than in town itself.
Closest options include the Shreveport / Bossier City KOA Journey, a full-service park convenient to I-20 and downtown attractions, and Red River South Marina-Resort along the Red River in northwest Louisiana, a short drive from downtown Shreveport that suits fishing trips and weekend stays. Country Haven RV Park and Southern Living Mobile Home Park - RV Division provide quieter, longer-stay options in the surrounding parishes.
For travelers heading north into the oilfield country, Heart of Haynesville RV Park serves the Haynesville Shale region and works as an extended-stay park. Together these campgrounds cover pull-through hookup sites, riverfront stays, and long-term parking suited to work travelers or families passing through north Louisiana.
Things to do near Stonewall
Shreveport-Bossier City is the main draw, roughly twenty minutes north. Families can visit Sci-Port Discovery Center, the Shreveport Aquarium, and the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. Riverfront casinos, the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City, and downtown Shreveport festivals round out the urban options.
Outdoor activities center on the Red River and nearby lakes. Red River South Marina-Resort features B.A.S.S. approved boat ramps and serves as a launch point for anglers on the Red River. Wallace Lake and Cross Lake are close enough for day trips.
History-minded travelers can visit Mansfield State Historic Site, a Louisiana state historic site preserving the 1864 Battle of Mansfield, located four miles south of Mansfield in DeSoto Parish, roughly a half-hour drive south of Stonewall on US-171.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in northwest Louisiana. From March through May, daytime highs are comfortable and wildflowers bloom along the Red River bottomlands, though this is also the wettest stretch of the year and severe thunderstorms with hail and tornadoes are common. May is the wettest month in Shreveport, averaging over five inches of precipitation.
Summer runs hot and humid, with July and August highs consistently in the low to mid-90s Fahrenheit. Campgrounds stay open, but shaded sites and reliable 50-amp hookups for air conditioning become important. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent, and mosquitoes are active near the river and lakes.
Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and reduced rainfall, making September through November the most pleasant period for extended stays. Winters are mild with occasional freezes, and most private RV parks in the Shreveport area operate year-round, though hookups can be affected by rare hard-freeze events in January.
How to book campgrounds near Stonewall
Most campgrounds in the Stonewall and Shreveport area are privately owned and take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Shreveport / Bossier City KOA Journey uses the KOA reservation system online, while Red River South Marina-Resort takes bookings by calling the marina office. Country Haven RV Park, Southern Living Mobile Home Park - RV Division, and Heart of Haynesville RV Park generally take bookings by phone.
Louisiana State Parks in the wider region, including Lake Bistineau, use the Go Outdoors Louisiana reservation system and allow bookings up to thirteen months to the day in advance online or by phone. For federal Corps of Engineers parks along the Red River, reservations run through Recreation.gov.
Book early for spring festivals in Shreveport, Mardi Gras weekends, and Independence Day. Long-term and monthly RV parks in the Haynesville Shale area fill quickly when oilfield activity picks up, so calling ahead is important.
What to expect
Terrain in the area is a mix of Red River bottom lands and gently rolling hills, with pine and hardwood cover, farmland, and small towns. Most RV parks offer level, gravel or paved pull-through sites with full hookups, and 50-amp service is standard given summer air-conditioning loads. Cell coverage is generally strong along the I-49 and US-171 corridors.
Expect warm, humid conditions from late spring through early fall, with biting insects near water. Fire-ant mounds are common in grassy sites, so watch step placement when setting up. Wildlife in the area includes deer, armadillos, and a variety of songbirds.
Grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are easy to find in Stonewall, Mansfield, and south Shreveport. Diesel is widely available along I-49, and larger rigs should note that some rural back roads south of town narrow quickly and have low tree canopy.
