Campgrounds near Bingham, Maine
Bingham sits on the upper Kennebec River in Somerset County, along the Old Canada Road National Scenic Byway (US Route 201). The area is known as a staging point for whitewater rafting on Maine's Kennebec, Penobscot, and Dead rivers, and most nearby campgrounds are built around river access, ATV trails, and snowmobile networks rather than a single anchor park.
RV travelers typically base out of privately run resorts within a short drive of downtown Bingham. Options range from full-service adventure resorts with hookups and cabins to smaller family campgrounds along US 201. The Evergreens Campground is the closest option to Bingham itself, while Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort in The Forks, West Forks Family Campground, and Riverdrivers White Water cluster near the Kennebec Gorge put-in about 20 to 25 minutes north. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Yonder Hill adds a family-focused option with structured kid programming.
Expect a rural, forested setting with limited cell coverage away from Route 201 and no big-box services once you leave town.
Things to do near Bingham
Whitewater rafting is the headline activity. Harris Station Dam, operated by Brookfield Renewable, releases a contracted 5,000 cubic feet per second into the Kennebec River every day from May 1 through October 15. The reliable dam-controlled flow makes the Kennebec Gorge a popular first-time rafting river for families with older kids, while the Penobscot and Dead rivers offer more advanced trips on select release days.
Beyond the water, the region offers extensive ATV and side-by-side trails, guided fishing, moose-watching tours, hiking, and access to the Appalachian Trail corridor. Snowmobiling takes over roughly December through March. Moxie Falls, a 90-foot cascade and one of the highest falls in New England, sits a short drive north near The Forks and is reached by an easy trail suitable for most ages.

The core RV season runs from May through mid-October. Tent and RV camping at area resorts is generally available spring through fall, though shoulder-season nights can drop below freezing and some sites do not open water hookups until mid- to late May. Black flies peak from mid-May into June, so families often target July and August for the best combination of warm water, reliable rafting releases, and manageable bugs.
Fall brings peak foliage, typically from late September into mid-October, along with cooler nights and lighter crowds. Rafting outfitters wind down operations around October 15 when the contracted Kennebec releases end.
Winter shifts the region toward snowmobiling and ice fishing. Bingham sits directly on Maine's ATV and snowmobile trail system, and while some resorts operate year-round for lodging, most tent and RV sites close once temperatures drop and services are winterized.
How to book campgrounds near Bingham
Campgrounds in the Bingham corridor are privately owned, so reservations go directly through each property rather than through Recreation.gov or a state-park portal. Most resorts, including Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Yonder Hill, take bookings online or by phone and bundle RV or tent sites with rafting, ATV, or meal packages.
Summer weekends, especially around Independence Day and scheduled Kennebec turbine test release days, book out early. Reserve two to three months ahead for peak-season weekend hookup sites, and confirm rig-length limits, big-rig turning access on Route 201 side roads, and pet policies before arrival. Deposits and cancellation windows vary by operator.
What to expect
This is rural western Maine. Sites tend to be wooded and rustic rather than manicured, with a mix of full hookups, water-and-electric, and dry tent pads depending on the property. Larger resorts such as Northern Outdoors Adventure Resort combine a riverside campground with lodge amenities, while smaller campgrounds along US 201 offer a simpler setup focused on river access.
Cell service is spotty once you leave Bingham village, and grocery options thin out quickly heading north toward Jackman. Stock up before leaving town. Wildlife including moose, deer, and black bear is common, so follow standard food-storage practices and drive cautiously at dawn and dusk on Route 201.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bingham, ME
How much does an RV rental in Bingham cost?
An RV rental in Bingham is one of the more affordable ways to explore Maine's Kennebec Valley. Travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300, and larger Class A motorhomes go higher. Because Bingham is rural, nightly rates here often come in below Portland or Bar Harbor. To find a cheap RV rental in Bingham, book midweek, travel in late May or September, and use RVezy's price filter to sort by budget. Pro tip: pairing a Kennebec River rafting day with a weeknight stay can meaningfully reduce a peak-summer weekend cost.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bingham,MaineWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Bingham?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bingham, whether you're driving a campervan, travel trailer, or Class C motorhome. Maine does not require a commercial driver's license or special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes. To book on RVezy, the primary driver must generally be 25 or older, and you'll verify your ID through the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home auto association along with your home-country license.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Bingham RV rental?
Every RV rental in Bingham booked on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive the Old Canada Road Scenic Byway with peace of mind. Protection plans cover physical damage to the RV up to set limits, and during checkout you'll choose the coverage level that fits your trip. Coverage levels and deductibles vary, so review the plan details before you confirm. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, just like you would with a rental car, to document the RV's condition and make any deposit release smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Bingham RV trip?
RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Bingham. The policy includes a grace-period window after booking during which you can receive a full refund, and refund amounts after that depend on how far out from your trip start you cancel. If your host cancels, RVezy helps you secure a refund or rebook. You'll see the full cancellation terms during checkout before you pay. Pro tip: if you're booking a shoulder-season trip in April or November, message the host early about weather flexibility so you both know the plan if conditions shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bingham?
Yes, Maine is one of the most dog-friendly states in the country. You can find pet-friendly RV rental options in Bingham easily on RVezy using the Pet-Friendly filter, and many hosts welcome dogs. Once you're on the road, your pup will enjoy the riverside trails along the Kennebec, walking paths around Wyman Lake, and the wide-open spaces in Bigelow Preserve. Maine state parks allow leashed dogs on most trails. Pro tip: pack a tick remover and check your dog daily, since the Kennebec Valley woods are prime tick habitat from May through October.
maine.gov/ifw/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Bingham?
Yes, and it's one of the easiest ways to do a first Maine RV trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Bingham and the surrounding Kennebec Valley, meaning they'll drive the motorhome or trailer to your campsite, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is ideal if you're flying into Portland Jetport or Bangor and don't want to tow. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, and check each listing for delivery radius and fees. Pro tip: ask about delivery to a Kennebec River campground so you can step straight into rafting season.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bingham,MaineHow far can I drive, and are there RV rentals with unlimited mileage?
Hosts set their own mileage policies on RVezy, and you'll often find Bingham RV rentals with generous daily allowances or unlimited mileage, which is ideal since Maine destinations are spread out. From Bingham, it's roughly 95 miles to Portland, about 65 miles to Sugarloaf Mountain, around 130 miles to Baxter State Park, and about 175 miles to Bar Harbor. Always check the listing's mileage section before you book and message the host if you're planning a longer Maine RV trip. Pro tip: the Old Canada Road Scenic Byway from Solon through Bingham to the Quebec border is a stunning leaf-peeping route in late September.
maine.gov/mdot/pga/scenicbyways/Where are the best campgrounds near Bingham for RV camping?
You have great choices. Popular campgrounds for RV camping near Bingham include Northern Outdoors and Three Rivers Whitewater in The Forks just north of town with riverside sites, Indian Pond Campground with Kennebec views, and Mountain Star Estate & Campground offering quiet wooded sites. A bit further afield, Cathedral Pines Campground in Eustis sits on Flagstaff Lake with sandy beaches, and Lake George Regional Park near Skowhegan offers easy state-park-style camping. Pro tip: Maine's most popular sites fill up by spring for July and August weekends, so book your campsite as soon as you book your RV.
maine.gov/dacf/parks/When is the best time to visit Bingham in an RV?
Late June through early October is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Bingham. Summer highs from July to August typically run in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit with cool 50-degree nights perfect for campfires, while September brings crisp days in the 60s and Maine's fall foliage peaking around late September to early October. May can be muddy and buggy, but Kennebec River rafting season begins then with strong spring dam releases. Winters are cold and snowy, and most campgrounds close November through April. Pro tip: aim for mid-to-late September for warm days, fewer blackflies, and early foliage along Wyman Lake.
weather.gov/gyx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Bingham?
You're going to do great, and Bingham is one of the easier places in New England to learn. Your RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and brakes, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Routes around Bingham are mostly two-lane country roads like US-201 with light traffic, wide shoulders, and gentle grades. First time renting an RV? Stick to daylight driving on day one, take corners wide, and consider using the Delivery filter to skip driving the rig altogether. Pro tip: practice a few slow turns and reverses in a large empty lot before heading to your campsite.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something breaks down during my Bingham RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so whether you have a flat on US-201, a dead battery at Wyman Lake, or a generator issue at a Kennebec River campground, one call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since local hosts often know nearby mechanics and can troubleshoot common issues quickly. Cell coverage is solid in town but can be spotty on remote back roads. Pro tip: download offline maps and screenshot your roadside assistance number before you leave Skowhegan, the last major town before Bingham.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bingham RV rental into Canada or other states?
Often yes, with host approval first. Many RVezy hosts allow cross-border travel from Bingham into Quebec or New Brunswick, which makes sense since the Canadian border at Coburn Gore and Jackman is roughly 70 to 90 miles north via US-201. Travel into neighboring states like New Hampshire and Vermont is typically straightforward. Travel into Mexico is not supported under RVezy's protection coverage. Always confirm cross-border permission with your host before booking, and bring your passport plus the RV registration and host-provided documentation. Pro tip: the drive up the Old Canada Road to Jackman and on toward Quebec City is one of the most scenic RV road trips from Bingham, especially in fall foliage season.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Bingham RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG. Maine gas prices tend to track close to the national average, and you'll find stations in Bingham along US-201, then again about 20 minutes south in Solon and 35 minutes south in Skowhegan. Pro tip: fill up in Skowhegan before heading north, since stations become sparser the closer you get to the Canadian border.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bingham?
Earlier is better, especially for summer weekends. Maine State Parks reservations open in the winter through the official Maine State Parks reservation system, and prime July and August Saturdays at popular parks can book out quickly. Private campgrounds near Bingham like Northern Outdoors and Indian Pond Campground typically accept bookings many months out, and rafting weekends in late June and July fill fastest. Shoulder season in May, September, and October is more relaxed and often bookable a week or two ahead. Pro tip: lock in your RV camping near Bingham first, then match an RVezy rental to those dates for the smoothest planning.
campwithme.com/What are driving conditions like around Bingham?
Driving around Bingham is mostly relaxed two-lane country roads, which is great for a Maine RV trip. US-201, the main route through town, is wide, well-maintained, and a designated Scenic Byway. Watch for moose at dawn and dusk, especially north of town toward Jackman, and slow down in fall when leaf-peepers and logging trucks share the road. Winter brings snow, ice, and frost heaves, so most RV rentals in Maine operate April through November. The terrain is rolling hills rather than steep mountains, so larger rigs handle the area comfortably. Pro tip: the Wyman Dam pull-off south of Bingham is a great photo stop and easy RV pull-through.
maine.gov/mdot/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Bingham?
Bingham-area campgrounds are well equipped for a smooth Maine RV trip. Northern Outdoors in The Forks offers full hookup RV sites with water, 30 and 50 amp electric, sewer, a dump station, plus a restaurant and Wi-Fi near the lodge. Indian Pond Campground provides hookups plus lake access and a dump station. Most nearby Maine State Parks offer water spigots and a central dump station but no individual sewer hookups, so plan accordingly. Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump tanks before heading north on US-201, since reliable dump stations become much less frequent past The Forks.
maine.gov/dacf/parks/programs_and_services/campsite_reservations.shtmlWhat features and amenities come with a typical Bingham RV rental?
You'll be impressed by what's packed into these rigs. A typical motorhome rental in Bingham includes a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with shower and toilet. Most include air conditioning, a furnace for chilly Maine nights, a TV, and seatbelted seating. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, generators, and outdoor speakers. Travel trailers offer similar layouts minus the driving cab. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps Count on RVezy to match the rig to your group, and message the host to confirm a generator is included if you plan to boondock near Bigelow Preserve.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bingham,MaineWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Bingham?
Hosts make it easy to customize your motorhome rental in Bingham. Popular add-ons include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, kayaks, and pet packages, each priced individually on the listing. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting point in town, and many hosts offer RV delivery in Bingham directly to your campsite for a fee based on distance. Mileage policies range from set daily allowances to unlimited, so check the listing carefully. Pro tip: ask your host about a propane top-off and dump-on-return service to skip those chores at the end of a busy Kennebec River trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bingham,MaineHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Bingham RV rental?
Payment is fully handled through RVezy, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay your rental total at booking with a credit or debit card, and the security deposit, which varies by RV and is shown on the listing, is pre-authorized on your card before pickup rather than charged. As long as the RV is returned in good condition with no extra mileage or cleaning issues, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take timestamped photos and video at pickup and drop-off, and verify fuel and propane levels on the walkthrough so deposit release is smooth.
