Lisbon Falls sits in Androscoggin County in southern Maine, on the Androscoggin River between Lewiston-Auburn and Brunswick. The town works well as a base for RV travellers because it puts the outlet shopping in Freeport, the coast at Casco Bay, and the lakes and hills of the western Maine foothills all inside a short drive. Campgrounds cluster in the rural towns just south and west of Lisbon Falls. Durham Leisure Campground and Freeport / Durham KOA Holiday sit closest, both in Durham. Cedar Haven Campground and Blueberry Pond Campground offer wooded, pond-side sites within a similar radius. Bradbury Mountain State Park is situated on Route 9 about halfway between Portland and Lewiston-Auburn on 800 acres of forested land, and is the only state park in southern Maine to offer shared-use trails for horseback riders, mountain bikers and snowmobilers. Most private parks in the area cater to family RV travel with full or partial hookups, while the state park option is more rustic and trail-focused.

Things to do near Lisbon Falls

Hiking and mountain biking are the main draws at Bradbury Mountain State Park. The park offers over 21 miles of trails, which are also open to bikers. Summit Trail is the quickest route to the scenic views at the top of Bradbury Mountain. Birding is a strong seasonal activity. The Bradbury Mountain Hawk Watch runs March 15 to May 15, seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On a good day visitors may see up to 1,000 hawks pass over the mountain. Off the trails, Freeport offers outlet shopping and the L.L.Bean flagship store, and the Casco Bay coastline is within easy reach for day trips. The Androscoggin River corridor near Lisbon Falls also provides paddling and fishing access.

Book several months out for July and August weekends, especially around the Fourth of July. Spring is quieter but brings hawk migration. Spring is the best time to watch hawk migration, and from March 15 through May 15 the annual Hawk Watch takes place. Fall is a strong shoulder season for foliage and cooler hiking weather. Fall is a busy time at the park when visitors watch migrating hawks and eagles ride the thermals and enjoy the views of fall foliage from the summit. Winter closes most amenities. The park's campground is closed during the winter, but the rest of the park is open year-round from 9 a.m. until sunset. Private RV parks in the region generally shut down from mid-October until early May.

Overall I enjoyed renting out this van. It offered a comfortable north-south bed orientation for two people, plenty of bed room. The heating system worked well and the van conversion was great too.

We had a great experience with Jeff's van. When he says that you can venture into places other campers and vans can only dream of he isn't kidding. We used the van for a video production project in the North Maine Woods and traveled down logging roads and offshoots with no problem. There was plenty of power, USB and outlets for us to charge batteries, phones and watches which was critical. Pickup was a breeze. The van is very well equipped and stocked. I can tell you from personal experience that the mattress for the lower sleeping area is surprisingly comfortable. We didn't want for anything during our stay!

After the online system closes, all campsites become first come, first served until the park's closing date.

Quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and sites near Route 9 can carry some traffic noise.
