Campgrounds and RV parks near Newcastle, ME

Newcastle sits on the tidal Damariscotta River in Maine's Midcoast, paired with the village of Damariscotta just across the bridge. The area works well as an RV base: it is close to Route 1, within reach of Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point, and surrounded by both freshwater ponds and salt-water inlets. Most campgrounds nearby fall in Damariscotta, Nobleboro, Boothbay, and New Harbor, all within a short drive of downtown Newcastle. Lake Pemaquid Camping and Duck Puddle Campgrounds both sit on seven-mile-long Pemaquid Lake, offering swimming, boating, and larger family-oriented layouts. Shore Hills Campground and RV Park is closer to Boothbay Harbor, while Sherwood Forest CampSite is minutes from Pemaquid Beach and the lighthouse. Boothbay Craft Brewery, Tavern and RV adds a smaller, adult-leaning option with on-site food and drink. Sites range from tent pads to full-hookup pull-throughs, and many properties also rent cabins. Availability tightens fast between July and Labor Day, when Midcoast Maine is at peak visitation.

Private campgrounds around Newcastle each run their own reservation systems. Lake Pemaquid Camping, Duck Puddle Campgrounds, Shore Hills Campground and RV Park, and Sherwood Forest CampSite all take direct bookings through their websites or by phone, and several require multi-night minimums on summer weekends and holidays. Boothbay Craft Brewery, Tavern and RV has a smaller number of RV sites and books directly through the brewery. For state-run options such as Damariscotta Lake State Park day use or Camden Hills camping farther up the coast, reservations go through the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands system at CampWithME.com. Book prime July and August weekends several months ahead, and check cancellation windows before confirming.
