Camping near North Eastham, Massachusetts
North Eastham sits on the Outer Cape, a narrow stretch of Cape Cod bordered by Cape Cod Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The village is part of the town of Eastham, which functions as the southern entrance to the Cape Cod National Seashore, a National Park Service unit covering roughly 44,000 acres of beaches, dunes, marsh, and pine-oak upland from Eastham to Provincetown.
RV travelers use North Eastham as a base for the Outer Cape because most nearby campgrounds sit within a short drive of Route 6, the single spine road serving this part of the peninsula. Options range from full-hookup private RV parks in Eastham itself to a state-run park farther south with wooded, non-hookup sites, plus a tent-only state campground to the north.
The closest campgrounds include Atlantic Oaks RV Park Campground and Maurices Campground in Eastham, Nickerson State Park in Brewster to the southwest, Wellfleet Hollow State Campground in Wellfleet to the north, and Shady Knoll Campground, also in the Brewster area. Together they cover a range of hookup levels, site sizes, and reservation windows suited to different rigs and trip lengths.
Things to do near North Eastham
The Cape Cod National Seashore drives most itineraries. The Salt Pond Visitor Center on Nauset Road in Eastham is the main orientation stop, with exhibits, short films, and a junior ranger program. From there, Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach give access to the Atlantic shoreline, while Fort Hill and the Red Maple Swamp Trail offer walking routes over marsh views and through wooded lowland.
On the bay side, First Encounter Beach has calmer water suited to younger kids and is a well-known sunset spot. The paved Cape Cod Rail Trail passes through the area and connects Eastham with Wellfleet and Brewster, making it easy to bike between campgrounds, beaches, and towns without moving the RV.

The camping season on the Outer Cape is short and demand-driven. Wellfleet Hollow State Campground operates seasonally from late spring through early fall, and campsites are limited to one tent or one pop-up unit per site under a tight tree canopy, with no accommodation for RVs, trailers, or fifth wheels. Nickerson State Park runs a longer season from roughly mid-April through mid-October, with 418 sites in pine and oak forest around freshwater kettle ponds, and reservations there fill quickly for July and August weekends.
July and August are peak season across every campground in the area, with sites often booked months ahead and Cape Cod National Seashore parking lots at Nauset Light and Coast Guard Beach filling by mid-morning. A fee or National Park pass is required at seashore beaches through the main summer season.
Late spring and early fall bring cooler temperatures, thinner crowds, and easier reservations, though the state campgrounds close by mid to late October. Winter camping is not available at the state facilities.
How to book a campsite
Massachusetts DCR campgrounds, including Nickerson State Park and Wellfleet Hollow State Campground, are booked through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to four months prior to the arrival date, and walk-in registration is not permitted at either park. Out-of-state campers pay a per-night surcharge on top of the base site fee.
From April 1 through Labor Day Monday, new DCR inventory opens at 8 a.m. Eastern each day, with later release times of 9 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends during the off season. Firewood cannot be brought into or out of any DCR campground and must be purchased on site.
Private campgrounds such as Atlantic Oaks RV Park Campground, Maurices Campground, and Shady Knoll Campground handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and full-hookup RV sites at private parks generally sell out earliest for summer weekends.
What to expect on site
Hookup levels vary sharply between private and state properties. Private RV parks in the Eastham and Brewster area typically offer full or partial hookups plus Wi-Fi, while Nickerson State Park has no hookups at standard sites and provides restrooms with hot showers, water spigots on each loop, and a dump station. Wellfleet Hollow is a quiet, tent-friendly campground that does not accommodate RVs, trailers, or fifth wheels, though some designated sites have 20-amp electric for tent and pop-up campers; there is no dump station on site.
Alcohol is prohibited at all Massachusetts state parks, pets are not permitted at Wellfleet Hollow, and quiet hours and vehicle limits are enforced. Parking at Wellfleet Hollow is limited to one vehicle per site.

No special endorsement or commercial driver's license is required for Class A, Class B, or Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels available on RVezy. Approved renters are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking, so there is no awkward paperwork at pickup. Visiting from overseas? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an RV rental in North Eastham, MA?
Every RVezy booking in North Eastham includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on whale watching off Nauset Beach instead of worrying about what-ifs. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind while you explore the Cape Cod National Seashore. During checkout, you choose the level of coverage that fits your trip, from a basic tier to more comprehensive options. Hosts do not pick coverage for you, so you stay in control. Tip: choose a higher tier if you plan to drive the narrow, sandy roads near Wellfleet or park overnight in busy beach lots.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Cape Cod plans change?
Booking an RV in North Eastham is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform, not individual hosts. That means consistent, fair terms whether you book a campervan in Eastham or a Class C in nearby Orleans. There is a grace period after booking for a full refund, with additional refund tiers depending on how far ahead of your trip you cancel. If a host has to cancel, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit. Tip: lock in your dates early for July and August because Cape Cod fills up fast, and review the full policy on the RVezy Help Center so you know exactly what to expect.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in North Eastham?
Absolutely, and Cape Cod is one of the most dog-loving regions in New England. Many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in North Eastham, just check the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy when searching. Once you arrive, you have plenty of tail-wagging options: leashed dogs are welcome on Cape Cod National Seashore beaches outside of designated lifeguarded swim areas, and the 25-mile Cape Cod Rail Trail that runs right through Eastham is perfect for morning walks. Nickerson State Park in nearby Brewster also allows pets in most campsites. Pro tip: bring tick prevention. Cape Cod is tick country, so a quick check after every hike keeps your pup happy.
nps.gov/caco/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground in North Eastham?
Yes, RV delivery in North Eastham is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters or families flying into Boston or Providence. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to campgrounds like Atlantic Oaks in Eastham, Maurice's Campground in Wellfleet, or Nickerson State Park in Brewster, level it, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. That means you skip the stress of driving a 30-foot motorhome over the Sagamore Bridge in summer traffic. When browsing listings, use the Delivery filter and message the host directly to confirm the delivery fee to your specific campground. Tip: delivery plus setup is a great choice for stress-free Cape Cod trips with kids.

Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, with many offering generous daily allowances and some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer New England loop. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Eastham%2C%20MAWhere are the best campgrounds near North Eastham for RV camping?
You have terrific RV camping near North Eastham within a 20-minute drive. Atlantic Oaks Campground on Route 6 in Eastham offers full hookups, pull-through sites, and free WiFi, and sits near the Salt Pond Visitor Center. Maurice's Campground in South Wellfleet is a classic family spot just minutes from Marconi Beach. Nickerson State Park in Brewster has more than 400 wooded sites around eight kettle ponds with no hookups but a dump station on site. North of Highland Camping Area in Truro puts you close to the dunes. Tip: book Nickerson months ahead through ReserveAmerica because Massachusetts residents and out-of-staters compete fiercely for summer weekends.
mass.gov/locations/nickerson-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for a North Eastham RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping in North Eastham is mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs typically sit in the mid 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit and ocean water warms into the upper 60s. July and August are peak season with the warmest swimming and longest days, though they bring the heaviest traffic on Route 6. Many locals call September the insider's month with mild days, quieter beaches, lower nightly rates, and fewer bridge backups. May and early June are lovely for biking the Cape Cod Rail Trail, though ocean swimming is brisk. Winter rentals are limited because most campgrounds close in mid-October. Tip: aim for the week after Labor Day for a strong blend of warm water and breathing room.
weather.gov/box/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in North Eastham?
You will do great, and North Eastham is a friendly spot for a first time renting an RV. Route 6 through Eastham is a straightforward two-lane highway with wide shoulders, gas stations, and plenty of pull-offs. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, so you are never guessing. You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions. If driving makes you nervous, choose delivery so the host handles the Sagamore Bridge crossing and brings the rig straight to your site. Tip: pick a Class B campervan or smaller Class C under 25 feet for your first trip. They handle like a large van and park easily near Coast Guard Beach.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038833453-First-time-renting-an-RVWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Cape Cod trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking in North Eastham includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 6 or a dead battery at Marconi Beach is just a phone call away from help. Roadside services include towing, tire changes, jump starts, lockout assistance, and fuel delivery anywhere on Cape Cod. Beyond roadside, the RVezy customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip to help resolve anything else that comes up. Your host is also a quick message away for questions specific to the RV. Tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway so it is one tap away on the Outer Cape where cell signal can dip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my North Eastham rental on an RV road trip to other states?
Yes, an RV road trip from North Eastham across New England is one of the best uses of your rental. Most hosts allow interstate travel through Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, so you can build an itinerary from Cape Cod to the White Mountains. Confirm out-of-state travel with the host before booking by sending a quick message from the listing page. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed by some hosts with advance notice for insurance purposes, while travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Tip: a 7-day loop from North Eastham through Newport, Mystic, and Bar Harbor is iconic, and most rigs have plenty of mileage to make it work.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel during a North Eastham RV trip?
Fuel is manageable on Cape Cod because distances are short. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 miles per gallon, campervans average 14 to 18 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Massachusetts gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so use a current estimate when budgeting based on EIA weekly prices. A typical week-long North Eastham trip with day drives to Provincetown, Chatham, and Brewster usually burns 30 to 50 gallons total. Fill up at stations in Eastham or Orleans before heading to the Outer Cape, where stations are fewer and pricier. Tip: park the RV at your campground and bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail to beaches. You will save gas and skip parking lot chaos.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near North Eastham?
Book early and you will thank yourself. For July and August stays at popular spots like Nickerson State Park in Brewster, reservations open months in advance through ReserveAmerica and the prime sites disappear quickly. Private campgrounds like Atlantic Oaks, Maurice's Campground, and Sweetwater Forest accept reservations many months out and fill by early spring. For shoulder season trips in June or September, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually fine. Tip: if your dream campground is booked, check ReserveAmerica daily because held sites are released regularly. Last-minute openings appear surprisingly often on the Cape.
reserveamerica.com/explore/nickerson-state-park/MA/430022/overviewWhat are the local driving conditions like around North Eastham?
Driving an RV around North Eastham is relaxed compared to most coastal destinations. Route 6 is the main artery and is well-paved with RV-friendly shoulders, though summer Saturday afternoon traffic heading off-Cape over the Sagamore Bridge can crawl, so plan arrivals and departures for early morning or late evening. Side roads to beaches like Nauset Light and Coast Guard are narrow with low-hanging tree branches in spots, so know your RV's height because most rigs are 10 to 12 feet tall. Beach parking lots have RV size limits, so plan to park at your campground and bike or shuttle in. Tip: avoid the bridges between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on summer Fridays and Sundays.
mass.gov/info-details/real-time-traffic-informationWhat hookups, dump stations, and water fills can I expect at North Eastham campgrounds?
Most private campgrounds near North Eastham offer full hookup sites with water, 30 or 50 amp electric, sewer, and often cable TV and WiFi. Atlantic Oaks in Eastham has full hookups at most sites and hot showers. Maurice's Campground in Wellfleet offers water and electric with a central dump station. Nickerson State Park has no hookups at sites but provides a dump station, potable water fills, flush toilets, and showers. Tip: top off fresh water before heading to Nickerson or any state park so you arrive ready to settle in without a detour.
mass.gov/locations/nickerson-state-parkWhat amenities come with a typical motorhome rental in North Eastham?
Most motorhome rentals in North Eastham come fully equipped for beach week, so you can roll up to the campground and start grilling. Expect a full kitchen with fridge, propane stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, a dinette, air conditioning, a furnace, and a generator or shore power hookup. Many rigs include outdoor speakers, awnings with LED lights, a TV, and bike racks that are handy for the Cape Cod Rail Trail. All travel seats have seatbelts. WiFi is hit or miss, so plan to rely on your phone hotspot or campground WiFi. Tip: ask your host about beach chairs and outdoor mats because many include them, saving you a stop in Orleans.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Eastham%2C%20MAWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a campervan rental in North Eastham?
Booking a campervan rental in North Eastham is highly customizable. Common add-ons include linens and bedding packages, kitchen kits with cookware and dishes, generator use beyond included hours, bike racks, kayaks, paddleboards, outdoor grills, and pet fees. Each host sets their own mileage policy, often around 100 to 150 free miles per day with extra miles charged per mile, plus a pickup window. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Eastham, Orleans, or Brewster, with delivery available to most Cape campgrounds for a flat fee. Tip: bundle the linens and kitchen kit because the convenience saves a half-day of packing and shopping.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Eastham%2C%20MAHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay through the platform with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host, and that payment covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons like delivery or linens. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, with the amount set by the host based on the RV. The deposit is pre-authorized before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid hiccups, do a quick walkthrough video at pickup and return, keep the tanks at the agreed level, and clean up before drop-off. Tip: dump and rinse the black tank before returning to avoid a common cleaning fee.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I drive my North Eastham RV onto the beach at Cape Cod National Seashore?
You can, with the right setup, and it is one of the most unique experiences on the East Coast. Cape Cod National Seashore allows Self-Contained Vehicle (SCV) camping along the Race Point Beach Off-Road Vehicle Corridor in Provincetown during the permitted season, with overnight stays available in summer. Your RV must have permanent built-in holding tanks for gray and black water, so truck campers, Class B, and small Class C rigs work best, and you need an ORV permit plus an SCV self-contained permit from the National Park Service. Tip: message your host before booking to confirm the RV is allowed on sand, and reserve your SCV permit early through the National Park Service because spots are extremely limited.
