Campgrounds and RV parks near Bath, MI

Bath sits in Clinton County just northeast of Lansing, putting travelers within a short drive of state park camping, private RV parks, and the recreation corridor around Lake Ovid. The closest major public campground is Sleepy Hollow State Park, roughly 20 minutes north of Lansing on a 2,600-acre property centered on the 410-acre Lake Ovid. The park offers year-round recreation with 181 modern campsites, two rustic cabins, a swim beach, and multiple trail systems. Private options fill in the gaps for RV travelers who want hookups or a shorter drive to town. Lansing Cottonwood Campground and Campgrounds-R-Us serve the immediate Lansing area, while Heartland Woods Family RV caters to longer stays. The Michigan Trapshooting Association also maintains camping tied to its shooting facility, useful for event visitors. The area works well as a base for exploring central Michigan: state government sites in Lansing, Michigan State University in East Lansing, and the rural lake and river country to the north are all reachable within a day trip.

Sleepy Hollow State Park reservations go through the Michigan DNR system at MiDNRReservations.com or by phone at 800-447-2757. Campsites, cabins, and picnic shelters can be booked up to six months in advance of the arrival date on a rolling window that opens at 8:00 a.m. Eastern. Popular summer weekends can fill within minutes of the window opening. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into all state parks and state forest campgrounds. Residents can add it to their vehicle registration, or purchase it at the park entrance. Private campgrounds in the Lansing area, including Lansing Cottonwood Campground, Campgrounds-R-Us, and Heartland Woods Family RV, handle their own bookings directly. Most Michigan state forest campgrounds operate first-come, first-served and can serve as a backup when state park sites are full.
