Campgrounds near Birch Run, Michigan
Birch Run sits in Saginaw County along I-75, about 90 miles north of Detroit and a short drive south of Frankenmuth's Bavarian-themed downtown. The village is best known to travelers for the Birch Run Premium Outlets, which anchor an interchange lined with hotels, restaurants, and RV-friendly campgrounds. RV renters use the area as a base for shopping, Frankenmuth's family attractions, and easy interstate access.
Campground options range from resort-style parks to quieter, wooded grounds. Pine Ridge RV Campground sits just off I-75 between Birch Run and Frankenmuth, with mature-tree shade, full hook-ups, and mostly pull-through sites. Frankenmuth Jellystone Park Camp Resort offers a larger amenity mix with pools, cabins, and paved pads a few minutes away.
Additional choices include Outdoor Adventures Lakeshore RV Resort for a lake setting, plus Covenant Hills Camp and Retreat and Wesleyan Woods Campground for retreat-style stays. Together they cover the range from full-service resort camping to simpler, quieter grounds within a short drive of the Birch Run exit.
Things to do near Birch Run
The Birch Run Premium Outlets are the anchor attraction, with dozens of stores clustered near the I-75 exit. Frankenmuth, roughly ten minutes north, adds Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, riverboat rides on the Cass River, chicken-dinner restaurants, and a walkable downtown with brewery and cheese-haus stops.
Outdoor time is centered on the Cass River corridor and nearby county parks, with kayak rentals, fishing, and easy bike routes on quiet rural roads. Families staying at Frankenmuth Jellystone Park Camp Resort or Outdoor Adventures Lakeshore RV Resort get on-site pools, playgrounds, and organized activities without leaving the property.
Day-trip range extends to Birch Run Speedway for weekend races, Bay City State Park on Saginaw Bay for beach time, and the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge for birding and trails.

The prime RV season runs from May through mid-October, when overnight lows stay above freezing and Frankenmuth's festival calendar is full. Summer brings the busiest weekends: the Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival in June, Auto Fest in early September, and Oktoberfest on the third full weekend of September all fill area campgrounds well in advance. Independence Day and Labor Day weekends also book out early.
Spring is variable, with wet ground and cool nights through April giving way to reliable camping weather by mid-May. Fall is a strong shoulder season: color typically peaks in the second half of October, crowds thin after Labor Day, and daytime temperatures remain comfortable for touring outlets and downtown Frankenmuth.
Winter camping is limited. Some parks, including Frankenmuth Jellystone Park Camp Resort, operate year-round for winterized rigs, but many area grounds close from late October to April. Snow, ice, and hard freezes are routine from December through February, so RV renters planning cold-weather trips should confirm hook-up status and road access before booking.

How to book a campground near Birch Run
Most campgrounds in the Birch Run and Frankenmuth area are privately owned and take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Pine Ridge RV Campground, Frankenmuth Jellystone Park Camp Resort, and Outdoor Adventures Lakeshore RV Resort all publish online availability and typically require a deposit at booking.
For summer weekends and any dates tied to Frankenmuth festivals, book six to twelve weeks ahead. Holiday weekends often sell out earlier at the resort-style parks. Weekday stays and shoulder-season dates in May, September, and October are generally easier to secure on shorter notice.
For state park camping in the wider region, such as Bay City State Park, reservations run through the Michigan DNR system on MiDNRReservations.com, which opens bookings six months in advance on a rolling daily basis and requires a non-refundable reservation fee at the time of booking.
What to expect on-site
Expect flat, mostly level sites and easy big-rig access at the larger parks. Pine Ridge RV Campground offers pull-throughs with full hook-ups and 20/30/50-amp service, modern restrooms with private showers, and a playground, but no pool. Frankenmuth Jellystone Park Camp Resort provides paved pull-throughs, pools, laundry, a camp store, and a dump station.
Sites at the busier resorts can feel close together on peak weekends, so RV renters who want more space should ask about perimeter or wooded loops when booking. Cell coverage is strong across the area, and most parks offer Wi-Fi near the office and common buildings.
Roads into the campgrounds are paved and RV-friendly. Drivers of rigs over 30 feet should avoid the outlet-mall lot on busy weekends, since tight aisles make maneuvering difficult; park at the campground and shuttle or drive a tow vehicle instead.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Birch%20Run%2C%20MichiganDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Birch Run, Michigan?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Birch Run, Michigan. Michigan does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for the motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers you'll find on RVezy, since they're well under the 26,000-pound threshold. Approved renters must generally be 25 or older and verify their ID through the RVezy platform, which only takes a few minutes. You're covered from the moment you hit I-75. At checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, with higher tiers reducing your out-of-pocket responsibility for covered accidental damage. It isn't traditional auto insurance, but it offers strong peace of mind for first-time renters and seasoned road-trippers alike. Pro tip: choose a higher-tier plan if you're planning a longer Michigan road trip up to the Upper Peninsula.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's the cancellation policy if my Birch Run RV trip plans change?
Booking is low risk. RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy, so you'll get the same fair treatment whether you rent a campervan in Birch Run or a Class C motorhome for a Frankenmuth getaway. There's a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, with additional refund tiers based on how far in advance you cancel. If your host cancels, RVezy refunds you or offers travel credits so you can rebook. Full details are on the RVezy Help Center, but the bottom line is simple: book with confidence knowing flexibility is built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Birch Run?
Yes, your four-legged co-pilot is welcome on plenty of trips. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Birch Run, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and message the host to confirm any specifics like pet fees or breed considerations. Once you're rolling, Michigan is one of the easiest states for dog-owning campers: pets are allowed at virtually all Michigan state park campgrounds on a 6-foot leash, and nearby spots like Pine Ridge RV Campground and Frankenmuth Jellystone Park have dog-friendly trails. Pro tip: Birch Run Township Park has open grassy fields perfect for a leash walk before your drive up to Tawas Point or Bay City State Park.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/camping-and-lodgingCan the RV be delivered to my campground or address in Birch Run?
Yes, and it's a game-changer for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Birch Run, meaning they'll tow or drive the RV directly to Pine Ridge RV Campground, Frankenmuth Jellystone Park, or a private address. They'll level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. To find this option, filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and review each host's delivery radius and fee, which is usually based on mileage. Pro tip: delivery is ideal if you're flying into Bishop International Airport (FNT) in Flint, about 20 minutes south, and want to skip towing entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Birch%20Run%2C%20MichiganHow far can I drive from Birch Run, and is there an option for unlimited mileage?
You have plenty of road to explore. Many hosts on RVezy include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) with the option to purchase additional miles or choose an RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer Michigan road trip from Birch Run. Each listing shows mileage details upfront, and you can message the host before booking with any questions. From Birch Run you're within easy reach of Frankenmuth (about 10 minutes), Bay City State Park (about 35 minutes), Mackinaw City (about 3 hours), Sleeping Bear Dunes (about 3.5 hours), and Pictured Rocks in the Upper Peninsula (about 5.5 hours). For a state-park feel, Bay City Recreation Area sits about 35 minutes north on Saginaw Bay with electric sites and beach access. Pro tip: Pine Ridge fills fast during Frankenmuth's Bavarian Festival in June and Oktoberfest in September, so book those weekends a couple of months ahead.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/camping-and-lodgingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Birch Run?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Birch Run, with warm days, full campground services, and Michigan's famous summer festivals in full swing. July and August deliver consistent highs in the low 80s°F, perfect for Saginaw Bay beach days, while September brings crisp 70s°F afternoons, brilliant fall color along the Cass River, and Frankenmuth's Oktoberfest. Spring (April to May) is quieter and cheaper, though nighttime lows can dip into the 30s°F, so bring layers. Winters here are cold and snowy with lows often below 20°F, so most campgrounds close from late October through April. Pro tip: book a late-September Birch Run RV trip to catch peak foliage and shoulder-season rates.
weather.gov/dtx/I'm first time renting an RV. Will I know how to use everything?
You won't be left guessing. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery if they bring the RV to you), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, awning, and dump procedure. You can also message your host with questions before, during, and after the trip, and RVezy support is available to help. Birch Run is genuinely first-timer friendly: the area is flat, I-75 is straight and well-marked, and Pine Ridge RV Campground has wide pull-through sites that make backing up optional. Pro tip: ask your host to record a short video walkthrough so you can rewatch it your first night out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Birch Run trip?
You're never stranded. Every motorhome rental in Birch Run booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-75, a dead battery at the outlets, or a lockout at Frankenmuth Jellystone Park is handled with a quick phone call. The roadside team can dispatch tire service, jump-starts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. Your host is also just a message away for quick troubleshooting questions about that specific RV. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate for fast assistance.

Interstate travel is generally fair game. From Birch Run, popular RV road trips include heading south to Indiana Dunes National Park (about 4 hours), east to Niagara Falls (about 5 hours), or west to Wisconsin Dells (about 6.5 hours), all on standard interstate routes. Crossing into Canada (Ontario is just over an hour away via the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron) may be allowed depending on the host, so message them directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: if you're crossing into Canada, bring your passport, written host permission through RVezy chat, and proof of insurance documentation.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting is straightforward. Class C motorhomes near Birch Run typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans land around 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on the tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Michigan gas prices generally hover around the national average, with plenty of stations right off I-75 exits 136 and 144 near Birch Run, including Pilot, Love's, and the well-known Tony's I-75 area. For a 4-day round trip to Mackinaw City and back (around 400 miles), plan roughly $120 to $180 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Birch Run before heading north; prices climb noticeably once you're past West Branch on I-75.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Birch Run?
Sooner is better, but you have options. Michigan state park campgrounds like Bay City Recreation Area and Port Crescent open reservations 6 months in advance through MiDNRReservations.com, and prime summer weekends (especially July 4th and Labor Day) can fill within hours of release. Private campgrounds near Birch Run such as Pine Ridge and Frankenmuth Jellystone typically book 1 to 3 months ahead for peak summer, but mid-week sites are often available within a few days of your trip. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target Sunday through Thursday arrivals to dodge weekend competition, and watch for cancellations on sold-out state park sites since they happen daily.
midnrreservations.com/What are driving conditions like around Birch Run for someone new to RVs?
Birch Run is an easy on-ramp to RV life. The area is famously flat, I-75 is wide and straightforward, and the village sits at Exit 136 with gas, restaurants (hello, Tony's I-75), and the Birch Run Premium Outlets all within a half-mile of the freeway. Summer driving is relaxed; just watch for outlet-mall traffic on weekends and during Frankenmuth's festivals. Winter is a different story: lake-effect snow, ice on I-75, and reduced visibility mean most travelers stick to May through October. Avoid low clearances under 12 feet downtown in Frankenmuth's older alleys, and stick to designated truck routes. Pro tip: download the MDOT Mi Drive app for real-time Michigan road conditions and construction alerts.

Frankenmuth Jellystone has a pool, mini-golf, and family activities, while Wesleyan Woods offers a quieter wooded vibe with showers and laundry. Dump stations are standard at private parks and at Bay City Recreation Area, and potable water fill stations are easy to find. Cell service is solid throughout the Saginaw Valley, though Wi-Fi quality varies by park (Verizon hotspots work well). Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump before heading north of Bay City, since services thin out quickly on the way to the U.P.

Listings show exactly what's included along with the sleeps count so you can match it to your group. Pickup is typically at the host's home, with delivery available for an additional fee based on distance, with popular drop spots being Pine Ridge RV Campground, Frankenmuth Jellystone, or your driveway in nearby Saginaw, Flint, or Bay City. Mileage policies and generator hours are clearly listed before you book. Pro tip: ask your host for a Frankenmuth-area tip sheet; locals know the best chicken dinner shortcut to avoid the Bavarian Inn weekend wait.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Birch%20Run%2C%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Michigan through RVezy, you pay directly through the platform with a credit or debit card, never cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV), and it's released back to you after your trip assuming no damage or policy violations. The protection plan you select at checkout helps reduce your exposure on covered incidents. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video of the RV at pickup and dropoff, both inside and out. It's the best way to keep your full deposit and avoid disputes after your Birch Run RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Birch Run by RV?
You're sitting in a road-tripper's sweet spot. Top RV road trips from Birch Run include Frankenmuth (10 minutes north for Bavarian food and Bronner's Christmas Wonderland), Bay City State Park on Saginaw Bay (35 minutes), Tawas Point State Park on Lake Huron (about 1.5 hours), Mackinaw City and the Mackinac Bridge (3 hours), Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (3.5 hours), and Pictured Rocks in the Upper Peninsula (around 5.5 hours). For a quick getaway, Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area is just 45 minutes southeast. Pro tip: a 5-day loop from Birch Run up I-75 to Mackinaw, across to Sleeping Bear, and back through Cadillac is the classic Pure Michigan RV itinerary, and shoulder-season weather in September makes it unbeatable.
