Campgrounds and RV parks near Brown City, MI

Brown City sits in Sanilac County in Michigan's Thumb region, roughly an hour north of Detroit and within reach of Lake Huron's western shore. The area is rural farmland dotted with small lakes, woodlots, and quiet county roads, which makes it a practical base for RV travellers who want space and low traffic without driving deep into the northern Lower Peninsula. Campgrounds within a short drive cover a range of styles. Washakie Campground and Golf pairs sites with an on-property golf course, while Emmett KOA Holiday offers the standardized amenities of the KOA brand. Attica Pines Campground and Ruby Campground are family-run parks set in wooded terrain, and Hilltop Campgrounds rounds out the closer options. Most parks in this area are private, seasonal operations rather than state or federal campgrounds, so hookup availability, cabin rentals, and family programming tend to be the main draws over wilderness access.

The closest campgrounds are private parks, so bookings run through each property's own website or phone reservations rather than a central agency system. Emmett KOA Holiday uses the KOA reservation platform, which allows online site selection and account-based rebooking. For peak summer weekends, reserve full-hookup and pull-through sites four to eight weeks ahead. Holiday weekends often require longer lead times and multi-night minimums. Cancellation windows vary by park, and deposits are usually non-refundable inside the window. If the nearer options are full, Michigan state parks along Lake Huron, including Lakeport and Port Crescent, take bookings through the Michigan DNR reservation system up to six months in advance and are worth checking early in the year.
