State park sites at Fort Custer Recreation Area and Gun Lake - Yankee Springs RA are reserved through the Michigan DNR system at MiDNRReservations.com or by phone. The booking window opens six months ahead of the arrival date on a rolling basis, so popular summer dates can be booked in December and January. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry to state parks, recreation areas, and state-managed boating access sites year-round. Private campgrounds book directly. Michawana Campground and Parkside Campground take reservations through their own sites or by phone, and Outdoor Adventures Kalamazoo Resort operates on a membership model with introductory stays available to first-time RV guests. For summer weekends, plan to reserve state park sites as early as the DNR booking window opens, and consider midweek arrivals or a Sunday-through-Thursday pattern to widen availability.
