Camping near Concord, Michigan
Concord is a small village in Jackson County in south-central Michigan, roughly 13 miles west of the city of Jackson and within reach of Battle Creek, Albion, and Hillsdale. The surrounding countryside is a mix of farmland and small inland lakes, giving RV travelers a compact base for lake and river camping in southern Michigan.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Way Back In Campground offers family camping for tents, RVs, and cabins. Rockey's Campground is a family-friendly destination on a chain of five lakes near Albion, with 100 shaded, grassy sites, cabins, and RV rentals. Lighthouse Village Membership RV Resort sits within the surrounding region, while Somerset Beach Campground and Gateway Park Campground extend options south toward the Irish Hills.
Most parks in this corner of Michigan are seasonal, privately run, and geared to weekend family camping rather than long-haul touring, so booking direct with the operator is standard.
Things to do around Concord
Water recreation is the main draw. Rockey's Campground sits on 1,000 feet of lake frontage connected to five lakes near Albion, with a sandy beach, a concrete boat ramp, boat rentals, mini golf, and a grocery store on site. Somerset Beach Campground maintains its own private lake where guests can fish and launch kayaks, and adds an indoor gym and climbing wall for rainy afternoons. Gateway Park Campground offers South Sand Lake access and a heated saltwater pool open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Off-site, families can visit the Falling Waters Trail out of Jackson, Cascades Falls park, Ella Sharp Park, and the antique shops of Allen. The Irish Hills region south of Concord adds inland lakes and small state recreation areas within a 30 to 45 minute drive.

The camping season in this part of Michigan is short and clearly defined. Most private parks open in mid to late April and close in mid-October. Gateway Park Campground runs April 15 through October 15, and Rockey's Campground operates roughly mid-May through the end of September. Somerset Beach Campground opens for the warm-weather season and offers cabin rentals year-round on a reduced basis.
Summer weekends, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, book heavily and often sell out months ahead. Spring shoulder season brings cool nights and wet ground, and many parks limit which loops are open early in the season. Fall foliage in late September and early October is a quieter, cooler window before parks winterize.
Winter camping is essentially unavailable at private parks in this area. Cold and snow close water lines from November through March, and any year-round cabin rentals typically operate on reduced services.

How to book Concord campgrounds
Private parks around Concord take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, not through Recreation.gov or the Michigan DNR system. Somerset Beach Campground accepts online reservations up to two years in advance for sites between April 1 and November 1, with earlier bookings handled by calling the office; a responsible adult must register and stay on site each night. Gateway Park Campground and Rockey's Campground book through their own sites and office phones, with Rockey's regulars often calling in February when the office reopens. For any July or August weekend, plan to reserve eight to twelve weeks out, and expect a two or three-night minimum on holiday weekends.
What to expect on-site
Sites in this area lean toward full or partial hookups on grass, gravel, or concrete pads, often with mature shade trees and lake or river frontage. Gateway Park Campground offers 99 full-hookup RV sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, water, sewer, and cable, plus four cabins and a rental trailer, a jumping pillow, and a heated saltwater pool. Rockey's Campground provides water and electric hookups on 100 shaded sites, a dump station on site, and cabin and RV rentals.
Expect strong family-camping culture: playgrounds, weekend activities, camp stores, and a large seasonal population. Cell coverage is generally reliable on major carriers. Quiet hours are enforced, and Somerset Beach Campground operates as a Christian ministry where alcohol and marijuana are prohibited on the grounds. Bring bug spray in June and layered clothing for cool nights even in summer.
