Campgrounds near Dundee, Michigan
Dundee sits in Monroe County along the River Raisin in southeast Michigan, roughly halfway between Ann Arbor and Toledo and within easy reach of US-23. The town works well as an RV base for travelers targeting Lake Erie shorelines, Detroit-area attractions, and the retail draw of Cabela's, which pulls a steady flow of overnight visitors through the area.
Campground options nearby range from rustic riverside sites to full-service RV resorts. River Raisin Canoe Livery offers electric and water RV sites next to the water, and K C Campgrounds sits a short drive north near Milan. Pirolli Park RV Resort and Monroe County/Toledo North KOA Holiday operate in the Petersburg area to the south, while Covered Wagon Camp Resort provides family-oriented amenities within the wider region.
Most parks in this corridor cater to weekend and seasonal traffic from Michigan and Ohio, so mid-summer weekends fill first. Booking a week or more ahead is prudent for any Friday or Saturday arrival between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Things to do around Dundee
Paddling is the signature activity. River Raisin Canoe Livery rents canoes, kayaks, and pontoon boats and runs shuttled floats down the River Raisin, with a half-day trip of roughly eight miles from Dundee taking about three hours. Families with kids in tow often pair a paddle day with a stop at the Cabela's flagship store in Dundee for aquariums, wildlife displays, and gear.
Within a short drive, the River Raisin National Battlefield Park in Monroe covers the War of 1812 site with free ranger programs and a visitor center. Lake Erie Metropark and Sterling State Park add beach access, boat launches, and cycling paths. Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Toledo are all within about a one-hour radius for day trips.

The RV season in the Dundee area is typical of southeast Michigan: most private campgrounds open around mid-April and close in mid-to-late October. River Raisin Canoe Livery operates from May through October, and Petersburg-area parks follow a similar window. Winter camping in the immediate area is limited; travelers seeking cold-weather stays should confirm operations by phone.
Late spring brings high water on the River Raisin and unpredictable weather, but campgrounds are quiet and reservations are easy to secure. Summer is peak season, with warm, humid weather, thunderstorm risk, and the busiest weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day. Bugs, particularly mosquitoes, are most active near the river from June through August.
Early fall is often the best value: comfortable days, cool nights, and reliable foliage color from late September into mid-October. Bookings ease noticeably after Labor Day, though weekends around fall festivals can still fill.

How to book Dundee campgrounds
Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Monroe County/Toledo North KOA Holiday takes bookings through the KOA website and app, with standard KOA cancellation terms. River Raisin Canoe Livery, K C Campgrounds, Pirolli Park RV Resort, and Covered Wagon Camp Resort accept phone reservations, and several also list availability on their own websites.
For holiday weekends, plan to book six to ten weeks out. For public land nearby, Michigan state parks such as Sterling State Park use the Michigan DNR reservation system at MiDNRReservations.com, which opens a rolling six-month window. Ohio state park sites just across the border, including Maumee Bay, book through the Ohio State Parks reservation portal.
What to expect at Dundee campgrounds
Sites in the Dundee area lean toward flat, grassy or gravel pads with a mix of partial and full hookups. River Raisin Canoe Livery is more rustic, with electric and water at RV sites, pull-through options, pit toilets on the primitive side, and a gate that locks at 7pm. Cell service is generally reliable across the area; over-the-air TV is limited and satellite users should scout for tree cover.
Expect small on-site playgrounds, fire rings, and picnic tables as standard. Larger resorts add pools, mini-golf, and organized weekend activities. Big-rig access is workable at the KOA and the RV resorts, while rustic sites suit rigs under about thirty feet. Grocery, fuel, and dump stations are available in Dundee and Monroe.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Dundee, MI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dundee, MI?
An RV rental in Dundee is one of the most affordable ways to explore southeast Michigan and the Lake Erie shoreline. On RVezy, towable trailers near Dundee typically average around $125 to $175 per night, while motorhomes generally run about $200 to $300 per night, with many hosts offering weekly or monthly discounts. To find a cheap RV rental in Dundee, book midweek, target the shoulder season (late April to mid May or September), and use the price filter to sort smallest to largest. Pro tip: planning a Dundee RV trip around a Cabela's stop or a Lake Erie weekend lets you split nights between a Cabela's overnight stop and a full hookup site to save even more.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dundee,%20MichiganDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Dundee, Michigan?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Dundee for virtually every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. Michigan does not require a special endorsement to drive a Class A, Class B campervan, or Class C motorhome under 26,000 pounds, which covers nearly the entire RVezy fleet. Approved renters must generally be 25 or older and complete RVezy's quick ID and driver verification when you book. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit. Most first-time renters say a Dundee pickup feels easier than expected, especially with a Class C from a local host.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Dundee RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Dundee, MI booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit US-23 with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), and the plan covers a range of physical damage scenarios during your trip. This isn't traditional auto insurance, but it's substantial financial protection built right into your booking. If you get a flat near Toledo or a dead battery at Wilderness Campground, one call gets help dispatched. Pro tip: pick your protection tier based on how far you're traveling, higher tiers make sense for longer Michigan loops.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change after I book an RV rental in Dundee?
RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (not the individual host), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can rethink without stress. Final terms depend on how close you are to your trip start date and on circumstances like severe weather. You'll see the exact cancellation terms during checkout and in your booking confirmation, and RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: lock in summer Dundee dates early since Sterling State Park and Wilderness Campground fill fast, you can always adjust within the grace window.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Dundee?
Yes, many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Dundee, and southeast Michigan is loaded with dog-welcoming stops. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see listings that welcome four-legged co-pilots. Sterling State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and campsites (pets are not permitted on the designated swim beach), and Wilderness Campground in Dundee welcomes pets in most sites. Bring a 6-foot leash, which Michigan state parks require, and pack a collapsible water bowl for Lake Erie shoreline walks. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any breed or size notes so check-in is smooth.
michigan.gov/dnr/places/state-parks/sterlingCan the RV be delivered to my Dundee campground or driveway?
Yes, RV delivery in Dundee is one of the best perks for first-timers, many local hosts will drive the RV straight to your campsite, set it up, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before leaving. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it and how far they'll go. Popular drop-off spots include Sterling State Park in Monroe, Wilderness Campground on Meanwell Road, and private driveways near Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Detroit Metro (DTW) since it skips the rental car plus tow-vehicle puzzle entirely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038447094-What-is-RV-deliveryHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically drive from Dundee?
Most Dundee hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day) with the option to prepay extra miles at a discount, or you can choose an RV rental with unlimited mileage. From Dundee you're perfectly placed: Detroit is about 50 miles north, Toledo about 25 miles south, Ann Arbor about 30 miles northwest, Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH about 75 miles, and Sleeping Bear Dunes roughly 290 miles up I-75 and US-31. A weekend Lake Erie loop easily fits within standard mileage; a Pure Michigan road trip from Dundee to the Upper Peninsula is better with an unlimited-mileage listing. Pro tip: ask the host to bundle extra miles upfront, it's almost always cheaper than paying overage at return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106494-How-does-mileage-workWhere are the best campgrounds near Dundee, MI for an RV trip?
You have excellent choices for RV camping near Dundee within a short drive. Wilderness Campground on Meanwell Road sits right in Dundee along the River Raisin with a swim lake, dump station, and electric sites. William C. Sterling State Park in Monroe (about 15 miles east) is the only Michigan state park on Lake Erie, with 256 modern sites and a dump station. Toledo North / Maumee Bay KOA in northwest Ohio offers pull-throughs and a pool, and Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe sits near the lake with full-hookup sites. Pro tip: reserve Sterling State Park on MiDNRReservations.com up to six months ahead, prime Lake Erie sites can disappear within minutes of opening.
midnrreservations.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Dundee?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Dundee is mid-May through mid-October, when daytime highs run from the mid-60s°F in spring to mid-80s°F in July and August, then a gorgeous 60s to 70s°F for fall color. Summer (June to August) is peak for Lake Erie swimming at Sterling State Park, while September and early October bring crisp nights, fewer mayflies, and dramatic foliage along the River Raisin. Most area campgrounds operate from mid-April to late October. Winter rentals exist but are limited since most parks close. Pro tip: late September is the smart-money window, weather is still warm, campsites open up, and you can pair the trip with Michigan apple-cider season at nearby Erie Orchards.
weather.gov/dtx/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay picking one up in Dundee?
You'll do great: a first time renting an RV in Dundee is genuinely manageable because the area is flat, the roads are wide, and US-23 and I-75 are straightforward freeways. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to level, hook up power and water, dump tanks, operate the slide-outs, and run the awning. You can also message your host anytime during the trip with questions. Start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer to build confidence. Pro tip: drive out of Dundee on M-50 toward Tecumseh first, low traffic and gentle curves are ideal for getting comfortable before joining the freeway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038107054-First-time-renter-tipsWhat happens if I break down on my Dundee RV trip?
Take a deep breath, 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking, so help is one call away whether you're on I-75 outside Monroe or in a campground loop at Sterling State Park. Coverage typically includes towing, tire changes, jump-starts, lockout service, and fuel delivery. RVezy customer support is also available around the clock, and your host is your second line of defense since they know their RV inside out. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the host's driveway and snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate, those two steps shave minutes off any roadside call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038447214-Roadside-assistanceCan I take my Dundee RV rental into Canada or other states?
Since Dundee is only about 60 miles from the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit, Canada is genuinely on the table. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the individual host's approval and insurance, so message the host before booking and get written approval in your RVezy chat. You're generally free to travel through Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and beyond on a standard rental within the continental US. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Dundee runs through Sarnia and along Ontario's Lake Huron shore to Pinery Provincial Park, about a 3-hour drive plus border time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a motorhome rental in Dundee?
Fuel is the second biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's predictable. Class C motorhomes near Dundee average 8 to 12 miles per gallon on regular gas, Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 mpg, and Class B campervans 14 to 20 mpg. Michigan gas prices typically track close to the national average, and there are large fuel stations with RV-friendly pumps right off US-23 near Cabela's and at the Pilot/Flying J in Monroe near I-75. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, plan on roughly 30 gallons. Pro tip: compare prices before crossing state lines, fuel taxes vary and can add a few cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Dundee?
Book early and you'll have your pick: Michigan state park campsites at Sterling State Park open for reservations up to six months in advance through MiDNRReservations.com or 1-800-44-PARKS, and popular Lake Erie waterfront sites can vanish the morning they open. Private parks like Wilderness Campground in Dundee and Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe typically allow bookings several months out, with summer weekends filling 2 to 3 months ahead. For July 4th, Labor Day, and Michigan International Speedway race weekends in Brooklyn, book the moment your dates open. Pro tip: if you miss your target date, set a free cancellation alert, freed-up sites at Sterling State Park appear regularly.
midnrreservations.com/What are local driving conditions like around Dundee?
Dundee sits in flat, glaciated farmland with elevations under 700 feet, so there are no mountain passes or steep grades. US-23 and I-75 are the main RV-friendly routes, both with 70 mph limits, wide lanes, and plenty of truck stops. The biggest local watch-outs are summer thunderstorms (afternoon pop-ups June through August), occasional fog along the River Raisin at dawn, and Friday-evening Detroit-bound traffic on US-23 near Ann Arbor. Tall rigs should review clearances on secondary routes in Monroe and use US-24 as a safer alternative when in doubt. Pro tip: check MDOT's Mi Drive map before departure for live construction updates, especially around I-75 near Monroe.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat hookups and amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Dundee?

Sterling State Park has 256 modern sites with electric service, an on-site sanitation/dump station, and modern bathhouses with hot showers. Wilderness Campground in Dundee provides water and electric sites, two bathhouses, a dump station, and a swim lake. Cabela's in Dundee has historically allowed free overnight RV parking in their lot (great for transit nights): always call ahead to confirm current policy. Pro tip: top off fresh water at Wilderness Campground before heading to any state forest campground further north.
michigan.gov/dnr/places/state-parks/sterlingWhat's typically inside a Dundee RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how dialed-in these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Dundee comes equipped with a queen or king bed, a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stovetop, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping, climate-controlled A/C and furnace, seatbelts for travel passengers, and a propane system for cooking and heat. Many listings also include a TV, generator, solar, outdoor speakers, or backup cameras. Cellular and WiFi are hit-or-miss in rural Michigan, so bring a hotspot for streaming. Pro tip: check the listing's Sleeps count against your actual headcount, a family RV trip from Dundee is most comfortable when each person has a defined sleeping spot.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dundee,%20MichiganWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Dundee RV rental?
Hosts in Dundee offer add-ons that turn a basic rental into a turnkey trip. Common extras include kitchen kits (plates, pots, utensils), bedding and linens, camp chairs and tables, propane fills, generator use, bike racks, kayaks, portable grills, and pet packages. Each host sets their own pickup and dropoff window and mileage policy, both shown clearly on the listing page. Delivery to Sterling State Park, Wilderness Campground, or your driveway is a popular option, ask the host for a quote in the chat. Pro tip: bundle the kitchen kit and bedding when you're flying into DTW, it's much cheaper than buying gear just to use it once.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dundee,%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: when you book an RV rental in Dundee, you pay through RVezy's protected platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment at the start of the trip and released back to your card after the RV is returned in the same condition, typically within a few business days. The deposit amount is shown clearly on every listing before you book. Document the RV's condition with photos at pickup and dropoff to avoid disputes. Pro tip: fuel up and dump tanks before return as the host requested, those two steps prevent the most common deposit deductions.
