Campgrounds near Elsie, Michigan
Elsie is a small village in Clinton County in central Lower Michigan, roughly halfway between Lansing and Saginaw. The surrounding farmland gives way to state parks, county fairgrounds, and river-town municipal campgrounds within a short drive, making the area a practical base for RV travelers who want quiet nights and easy access to I-69 and US-127.
The closest full-service option is Sleepy Hollow State Park, which sits on Lake Ovid and is operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Campgrounds-R-Us and Just In Time Campground offer private-park alternatives with hookups, while Saginaw County Fairgrounds provides event-tied camping.
Along the Shiawassee River in Chesaning, the municipally run Chesaning Show Boat Campground rounds out the picks, adding riverfront sites within walking distance of a small downtown. Together these campgrounds cover the range from state-park modern loops to primitive village sites, giving travelers flexibility on hookups, site style, and reservation windows.
Things to do near Elsie
Lake Ovid at Sleepy Hollow State Park anchors most day plans. The 410-acre lake supports boating, swimming from a sand beach, shore fishing, and paddling, and the park adds miles of hiking and equestrian trails plus a disc golf course, basketball court, and horseshoe pit.
Closer to town, the Shiawassee River corridor at Chesaning Show Boat Campground offers a boat launch, an accessible fishing pier, and disc golf inside the same municipal park. Chesaning hosts summer festivals and concerts, and Saginaw County Fairgrounds runs its annual fair in summer.
Day-trip range from Elsie covers Frankenmuth and Birch Run outlets to the northeast, Michigan State University and downtown Lansing to the south, and Grand River access points for tubing and paddling in between.

Central Michigan runs on a short but busy outdoor season. Sleepy Hollow State Park operates a modern campground with a seasonal schedule, and most private and municipal parks in the area follow the same rhythm. Chesaning Show Boat Campground opens in mid-May and closes in mid-September, so trips outside that window need to target the state park or private grounds with extended seasons.
June through August is peak. Weekends at Sleepy Hollow, especially those tied to July 4 and Labor Day, book out months ahead, and any event at Saginaw County Fairgrounds tightens nearby availability. Bugs peak in June, and lake temperatures are warmest in late July and August.
Shoulder months, May and September, bring cooler nights, fewer crowds, and easier same-week bookings. Fall color typically peaks in mid-October. Winter camping in the region is limited and requires cold-weather gear.

Glad we got another chance this year to take Darlene out for a camping weekend. Same great experience as last year!

We had a great weekend! Pickup and drop off were easy to coordinate and the unit was so light to tow with our Subaru outback. The camper came well equipped and was perfect for off-grid camping.

Too small, even for two people. There was no TV and no chairs to sit on outside. It was clean and the set up was quick and efficient.
