Campgrounds and RV parks near Flushing, MI

The Flint River runs through town and connects to a paved trail system used for cycling, running, and short walks from campground to downtown. Anglers fish the river and the small lakes around Durand, and paddlers can float sections of the Shiawassee River, including through the property at Walnut Hills Family Campground, which runs an on-site canoe livery. Walnut Hills is also built for kids, with a beach, Wibit water park, playgrounds, a dog park, basketball court, sand volleyball, and gaga ball pit. Frankenmuth, roughly half an hour north, offers Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, riverboat rides, and German restaurants, with the Birch Run Premium Outlets on the way back. On rainy days, families head to Crossroads Village and the Huckleberry Railroad in Flint, or the outlet malls in Birch Run.

Camping season around Flushing is short and concentrated. Most private parks open in early May and close by mid-October, matching the frost-free window in mid-Michigan. Holiday Shores RV Park operates from May 1 to October 31, and short-term camping at Walnut Hills Family Campground runs from May 1 to September 30. The Tom Graham Memorial Campground inside Chesaning Show Boat Park runs from mid-May to mid-September, so travellers planning shoulder-season trips should book against those windows. July and August bring the warmest weather and the largest crowds, with holiday weekends filling up months in advance. Late June is a strong compromise, with warm days, long daylight, and slightly lighter demand than the Fourth of July or Labor Day. Spring can be muddy, and low-lying sites at some private parks are prone to standing water after heavy rain, so campers should ask about site elevation when booking, particularly if arriving in spring. Fall brings cool nights and colour through October, but heaters and extra bedding are worth packing.

Most private parks in this pocket of Michigan are family resorts rather than rustic getaways. Expect grassy or gravel sites, laundry, camp stores, and organized weekend activities in summer. Full hookups with electric, water, and sewer are standard at Holiday Shores RV Park and available at many sites at Walnut Hills Family Campground, and both properties have modern restrooms and showers. Site dimensions vary. Pine Ridge RV Campground in Birch Run and Holiday Shores both offer pull-through sites that accommodate big rigs, though spacing varies across each property. Renters with large trailers should request a specific site size at booking. Cell service is generally reliable across Genesee and Shiawassee counties, but Wi-Fi at rural parks can be spotty. Mosquitoes are heavy after wet stretches, so bug spray and screens matter.
