Campgrounds and RV parks near Frankfort, MI

Frankfort sits on Lake Michigan's northeastern shore in Benzie County, between Crystal Lake and the southern boundary of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The town works well as a base for RV travelers heading to the dunes, Point Betsie Lighthouse, or the Betsie Valley Trail, and it draws steady summer traffic from families, anglers, and beachgoers. Campground options nearby cover a range of styles. Platte River Campground, in the southern district of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, is one of the most popular campgrounds in the park and offers a mix of RV, tent, and walk-in sites. Frankfort Crystal Lake RV Resort provides full-hookup RV sites, while Betsie River Campsite offers shaded riverfront sites with RV and tent options. Winding River Campground and Timberline Campground round out the picks with river access and family amenities. Most private parks run a summer-heavy season, while the national lakeshore campground operates year-round with a peak reservation window from spring through mid-October.

For the national lakeshore, use Recreation.gov. Campsite reservations at Platte River are required from May 1 through October 15 and can be made up to six months in advance of the arrival date. Electric sites and popular loops release in a rolling six-month window, so setting a calendar reminder for the exact release date is the most reliable way to secure summer weekends. Private parks like Frankfort Crystal Lake RV Resort, Betsie River Campsite, Winding River Campground, and Timberline Campground book directly through their own websites or third-party booking platforms. Weekly stays are common in summer, and some parks offer shoulder-season discounts for longer bookings. For holiday weekends, book several months out. For midweek stays in May, early June, or late September, shorter lead times are usually workable.
