Camping near Gobles, Michigan
Gobles sits in northern Van Buren County in southwest Michigan, roughly 25 minutes northwest of Kalamazoo and about 30 minutes inland from Lake Michigan at South Haven. The surrounding countryside is a mix of small inland lakes, fruit orchards, blueberry farms, and wooded parcels, which gives RV renters a compact base for beach days, lake fishing, and small-town stops without long daily drives.
Most campgrounds within reach of Gobles are privately operated family and lake resorts rather than state parks. Giles Campground and Warner Camp sit closest to town, while Outdoor Adventures Kalamazoo Resort and Tri Ponds Family Camp Resort offer larger amenity-driven layouts geared to families and longer stays. Dumont Lake Campground extends the options north toward Allegan County.
For travelers who want a Michigan state-park experience, Van Buren State Park on the Lake Michigan shoreline and Yankee Springs Recreation Area to the north are both within an easy drive and are booked through the Michigan DNR reservation system.
Things to do around Gobles
The Lake Michigan beach towns of South Haven and Saugatuck are the anchor day trips, with public beaches, harbor walks, and pier lighthouses that work well for a family outing from an RV site near Gobles. Inland, the Kal-Haven Trail runs from South Haven to Kalamazoo and passes just south of Gobles, giving cyclists and walkers a flat, shaded rail-trail route.
Closer to camp, small inland lakes support swimming, kayaking, and bass and panfish angling. Timber Ridge is the local ski and snowboard area for winter visitors. Kalamazoo adds breweries, the Air Zoo aerospace museum, and family attractions, while Van Buren State Park offers dune hiking and a stretch of sandy Lake Michigan beach.

Most private campgrounds in the Gobles area run a standard Michigan season from roughly late April or early May through mid-October, with peak demand from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. July and August deliver the warmest, driest camping weather and the busiest weekends, particularly at lakefront and resort-style parks that fill for holiday weekends well in advance.
Late spring and early fall are quieter shoulder windows. May can still be cool and wet, but blossom season in the surrounding fruit belt is a draw. September and early October bring cooler nights, lower bug pressure, and color change through the hardwoods, and many family resorts remain open until mid-October.
Winter camping options are limited. Most private parks close for the season, water is shut off at state-park modern loops, and lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan can pile up quickly from November through March.

How to book a campsite near Gobles
Private campgrounds near Gobles, including the lake resorts and family parks, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and any site with full hookups or waterfront tend to book earliest, so lock in dates as soon as trip plans are firm.
For Michigan state parks and recreation areas in the wider region, reservations with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for campsites, lodging and harbor slips are open six months in advance on a rolling window, and popular summer weekends often clear out within minutes of opening. A Recreation Passport is required to enter Michigan State Parks; it provides access to all Michigan State Parks and recreation areas and can be purchased when the vehicle registration is renewed or online, and can also be added at the gate.
What to expect on-site
Private campgrounds around Gobles skew family-oriented, with a mix of full-hookup RV sites, water-and-electric sites, and cabins. Amenities typically include pools or lake swimming, playgrounds, camp stores, laundry, and scheduled weekend activities during peak season. Wooded sites are common, so measure rig height and length against listed site dimensions before booking a back-in.
Cell coverage across Van Buren County is generally reliable on major carriers but can weaken in wooded lake basins. Mosquitoes and biting flies pick up after rain in June and July, so bring repellent. Firewood is usually sold on site, and Michigan parks ask that firewood not be brought in from out of state to limit the spread of tree pests.

The Michigan Secretary of State does not require a commercial driver's license or special RV endorsement for any motorhome you can rent on RVezy, including Class A, Class B campervans, and Class C motorhomes. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and you will confirm your ID through RVezy's secure verification process during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Yes, RV delivery in Gobles is a popular option, and it is a game-changer if you are new to RVing. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, with most charging a per-mile fee from their home base. This makes a Gobles RV trip effortless for first-timers: no towing, no backing into a tight site, and no setup learning curve. Pro tip: book delivery to Van Buren State Park and you will be just a short walk from the Lake Michigan beach within minutes of arrival.

October brings spectacular fall color through the rolling Van Buren County orchards. Winter Gobles RV trips are possible with a four-season rig, just confirm winterization with your host. Pro tip: book the second week of September for the sweet spot of weather and availability.
weather.gov/grr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know what to do?
You are in great hands. First time renting an RV in Gobles is easier than you think. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, water and waste systems, propane, leveling, awnings, and dashboard controls. Many hosts in Southwest Michigan also send pre-trip videos so you can preview the rig before arrival. You can message your host anytime through the RVezy platform with questions, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C or campervan rental in Gobles for your first outing, they handle like a large van and are ideal for a short shakedown trip to Van Buren State Park, about 25 miles west.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180714-RentersWhat if I get a flat tire or breakdown during my trip?
Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away anywhere in Michigan. Whether you have a flat on US-131, a dead battery at Van Buren State Park, or a lockout in downtown Kalamazoo, dispatch coordinates a service provider to come to you. Your host is also reachable through the RVezy app for questions about systems or quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pickup, and snap photos of the insurance and registration paperwork from the glovebox so it is all handy if you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Gobles RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Cross-state travel is welcomed on most Gobles rentals: head south to Indiana Dunes National Park, east to Ohio's Lake Erie shore, or north along Lake Michigan toward the Upper Peninsula. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection terms, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Gobles include the Lake Michigan Circle Tour and a Chicago loop. Pro tip: if a Canada side-trip is even a possibility, bring your passport, the Bluewater Bridge at Port Huron is about a 3.5-hour drive away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I expect?
Plan smart and fuel costs stay manageable on a Gobles RV trip. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A motorhomes run 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailer fuel use depends on your tow vehicle. Michigan regular gasoline typically runs in the low-to-mid $3 per gallon range, with stations in Paw Paw and Kalamazoo often a bit cheaper than lakeshore tourist towns like South Haven. For a typical 200-mile loop from Gobles to South Haven, Saugatuck, and back in a Class C, budget roughly $60 to $80 in fuel. Pro tip: top off at a big-box station in Kalamazoo before heading west, and use GasBuddy to find the cheapest pumps along M-43.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campsite near Gobles?
Plan ahead and you will score the best sites. Michigan State Park campgrounds, including Van Buren State Park, release reservations exactly six months in advance through the Michigan DNR's MiDNRReservations system, and summer Lake Michigan-facing parks book solid for July and August weekends within hours. Private parks in the area typically have more flexibility but still fill two to three months out for peak weekends. For a spontaneous Gobles RV trip in shoulder season (May or September), you can often find sites a few days out. Pro tip: set an early-morning calendar reminder for the six-month-out booking date because beachfront-loop sites at Van Buren State Park can disappear within minutes.
midnrreservations.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Gobles?
Driving an RV around Gobles is refreshingly stress-free. The area is rural with light traffic, gentle rolling hills, and well-maintained two-lane roads like M-40 and M-43. I-94 runs just south through Mattawan and connects you quickly to Kalamazoo and the lakeshore. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (Van Buren County has heavy populations), and be aware of seasonal fruit-truck traffic during summer blueberry and grape harvests. Lake-effect snow can dust the area from November through March, so winter renters should ask hosts about all-season tires. Summer thunderstorms can pop up quickly off Lake Michigan, just pull over if visibility drops. Pro tip: avoid the South Haven downtown grid on July weekends with a larger Class A and use the South Bailey Avenue approach to Van Buren State Park instead.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Gobles?
You will find solid infrastructure at campgrounds around Gobles. Van Buren State Park offers modern sites with 20/30/50-amp electric, modern restrooms with hot showers, a sanitation/dump station, and potable water fill-ups, though there are no individual water or sewer hookups at sites. Most Michigan state parks require a Recreation Passport for vehicle entry, available when you reserve or at the gate. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving the host's driveway, and dump tanks on your way out at the park's sanitation station rather than mid-stay.

Pickup and dropoff times are usually flexible by message. Pro tip: ask about a generator add-on if you are boondocking, Van Buren State Park's electric sites do not need one, but state forest campgrounds do.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gobles%2C%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay the full booking total through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit card, and funds are held safely until your trip. A refundable security deposit (the amount varies by RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged, so it just holds the amount and releases after a smooth dropoff. To avoid issues, complete the walkthrough with your host at both pickup and return, take date-stamped photos of the rig inside and out, and follow mileage and generator-hour limits noted in your booking. Pro tip: review the listing's house rules before booking your rent an RV in Gobles experience so there are zero surprises and your deposit releases promptly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs winter RV camping possible from Gobles?
Yes, and it is a quiet adventure most travelers overlook. While Van Buren State Park's modern campground typically closes for the season (roughly mid-October through mid-April), several private parks near Gobles stay open year-round, and Michigan DNR keeps a number of state park campgrounds operating through winter. A four-season RV rental in Gobles with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a reliable furnace is essential, just filter for these features and confirm winterization status with your host before booking. Expect January highs around 30 degrees F and lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan. Pro tip: book a rig with shore power capability and pair it with a heated water hose, then enjoy snowy hikes at Fort Custer Recreation Area and cozy evenings inside, family RV trip Gobles magic does not have to end in October.
