Campgrounds near Haslett
Haslett sits in mid-Michigan just northeast of Lansing and East Lansing, along the shoreline of Lake Lansing in Ingham County. The area gives RV travelers easy access to Michigan State University, the state capital, and a mix of state-park and private campground options within a short drive.
The closest state-park option is Sleepy Hollow State Park, which contains over 2,600 acres including a river winding through woods, fields and trails, with 410-acre Lake Ovid in the middle and 181 modern campsites operated year-round. Private parks fill in the rest of the inventory. Lansing Cottonwood Campground and Campgrounds-R-Us serve travelers who want a base near the city, while Heartland Woods Family RV offers a wooded, family-oriented setting. The Michigan Trapshooting Association property adds another option, particularly during shooting events. Most sites in the region accommodate trailers and motorhomes with electric hookups; full hookups vary by park.

Lansing experiences a humid continental climate, marked by very strong seasonal temperature contrasts. Summers are warm, while winters are cold and bring significant snowfall. Precipitation is moderate and spread relatively evenly throughout the year, with winter moisture often arriving as snow. Late June through August is peak RV season, with reliable swim weather at Lake Lansing and Lake Ovid and a full schedule of programs at state parks. Weekends fill quickly, so modern state-park sites should be booked well in advance.
Spring is variable, with cool nights, mud on natural-surface trails, and rain that can stretch into May. Fall brings reliable color through the hardwoods around Lake Ovid, lighter crowds after Labor Day, and cool nights that favor electric hookups for heat. Sleepy Hollow offers a year-round opportunity for recreation with 181 modern campsites, but many private parks close or run reduced seasons from late October through April.

Neil was great with communication on questions I had about the camper. They were on time for delivery and came out again after the trailer had settled and helped us. Great folks to rent from. We will definitely use them again!

Glad we got another chance this year to take Darlene out for a camping weekend. Same great experience as last year!

We had a great weekend! Pickup and drop off were easy to coordinate and the unit was so light to tow with our Subaru outback. The camper came well equipped and was perfect for off-grid camping.

How to book
Sleepy Hollow State Park uses the Michigan DNR reservation system at MiDNRReservations.com or by calling 1-800-44-PARKS (1-800-447-2757). Campsites, overnight lodging and harbor slips can be reserved 6 months to the date of arrival in advance, so popular summer weekends should be booked the day they release. A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into all state park and forest campgrounds and can be added with a Michigan vehicle registration or purchased at the gate.
Private parks such as Lansing Cottonwood Campground, Campgrounds-R-Us, and Heartland Woods Family RV are booked directly through each operator. Check-in and checkout times vary by park, so confirm hours when reserving.
What to expect
Expect a mix of modern state-park loops and smaller private grounds. At Sleepy Hollow, the modern campground is divided into two loops, the north loop and south loop, and each campsite has its own asphalt or concrete pad surrounded by shrubs for natural privacy, with electric service, modern restrooms, and a sanitation station on site. Cell service is generally usable across the Lansing metro and weakens in wooded loops. Campfires are permitted only in designated fire rings and must never be left unattended; garbage burning is not allowed and fireworks are prohibited. Buy only certified heat-treated firewood from approved vendors to limit invasive-pest spread. Mosquitoes peak from late spring through midsummer near Lake Ovid and Lake Lansing, so pack repellent.
