Campgrounds near Hopkins, Michigan
Hopkins sits in Allegan County in southwest Michigan, roughly halfway between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo and about a half-hour drive from Lake Michigan beaches at Saugatuck and Holland. The surrounding countryside is a mix of farmland, hardwood forest, and small inland lakes, which supports a cluster of private RV parks and family campgrounds within a short drive of town.
The nearest options for RV travelers include East Lake Camping, Sandy Pines RV Resort and Campground at 2745 136th Avenue, Dumont Lake Campground, Hungry Horse Campground, and Hungry Horse Family Campground. Sandy Pines is described as the largest privately owned campground in Michigan, spanning roughly 800 acres of lake and woodland property, while the Hungry Horse properties and Dumont Lake lean smaller and more traditional.
Most parks in this pocket of Michigan are seasonal operations tied to the warm-weather months, with hookup sites, camp stores, and swim access on inland lakes. Public land camping in the Yankee Springs Recreation Area and the Allegan State Game Area is also within reach for RVers willing to drive a bit farther.
Things to do near Hopkins
The immediate draw is water. Sandy Pines sits on a 262-acre private lake and features a beach, heated outdoor pools, waterslide and splash pad, mini golf, and an open-air chapel with regular Sunday services. On-site recreation also includes lighted tennis courts, basketball, shuffleboard, horseshoe pits, bocce ball, disc golf, a high ropes course, and a dog park, which keeps families busy on rainy afternoons.
Off-property, campers use Hopkins as a base for Lake Michigan day trips to Saugatuck, Holland, and Oval Beach, plus Gun Lake and Yankee Springs Recreation Area for paddling and mountain biking. Craig's Cruisers and the shops of downtown Wayland and Allegan are short drives, and Grand Rapids attractions such as John Ball Zoo and Frederik Meijer Gardens sit within about forty minutes.

The camping season around Hopkins is firmly warm-weather. Sandy Pines operates as a seasonal recreational community, and most other private parks in the area follow a similar April-through-October pattern, with limited or no services outside those months. Recreational amenities such as pools and organized summer programs typically run from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Summer is peak. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures, the busiest activity calendars, and the tightest availability, particularly on holiday weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day. Sites at family-oriented resorts can book out weeks or months in advance for those dates, so early reservations matter.
Late spring and early fall are quieter and often more comfortable for touring. May and September offer mild days, thinner crowds, and easier reservations, though lake swimming is cooler and some resort amenities may not be fully staffed. Winter camping options are extremely limited in this part of Michigan, with snow, sub-freezing nights, and closed water systems from December into March.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our camper immensely. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. Thank you
Brenda S. - Jul 2026
The camper is well taken care of, has everything you would need for a camping trip, and the host was really easy to communicate with and make time arrangements. We had it delivered and everything was very smooth and easy. We have two small boys who shared the oversized bottom bunk. This is a great RV for families, not too tight of quarters but still a very manageable towing size. I would definitely recommend this RV.

How to book near Hopkins
Reservation systems differ by campground. Sandy Pines is a member-owned recreational community, so non-member RVers should contact the resort directly to confirm guest access, availability, and any gate procedures before booking. The Hungry Horse campgrounds, Dumont Lake Campground, and East Lake Camping typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites.
For public land nearby, Michigan state park and recreation area campgrounds, including Yankee Springs Recreation Area, are booked through the Michigan DNR reservation system at midnrreservations.com on a rolling six-month window. Popular summer weekends fill quickly the moment the window drops, so setting a reminder for the exact date six months out is the practical way to lock in a lakefront or hookup site.
What to expect near Hopkins
This is family-resort country rather than backcountry. Expect paved or gravel interior roads, gated entries, and a strong summer social calendar. At Sandy Pines, campers find 23 miles of paved roads, 13 heated bathrooms with showers, coin-operated laundromats, heated outdoor pools, and a camp store, hardware store, and ice cream shop on site. Full hookups, cable, and Wi-Fi are common at the larger resorts; smaller parks may offer water and electric only, with a central dump station.
Sites vary in width and tree cover, so bigger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs should confirm length limits and slide clearance before booking. Cell coverage is generally solid across Allegan County. Pets are widely accepted but usually leashed, and quiet hours are enforced at most family parks. Mosquitoes and biting flies are active from late spring through summer, so pack repellent.

Yes, RV delivery is one of the easiest ways to start your Hopkins trip, especially if you're new to towing or driving a big rig. Many RVezy hosts in the Hopkins, Wayland, and Allegan area will drive the RV to your campground, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything before they leave. Popular delivery destinations include Yankee Springs Recreation Area and private lakefront sites around Gun Lake. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy, then message the host with your campsite number. Pro tip: confirm delivery fees upfront, as they're usually based on round-trip mileage from the host's location.
michigan.gov/dnr/places/state-parks/yankee-springsHow do mileage policies work, and can I get unlimited mileage?
Plenty of flexibility here: hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and many Hopkins-area listings offer generous daily allowances (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with affordable overage rates, while some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a bigger loop around Lake Michigan. From Hopkins, you're roughly 30 miles to Holland's tulip beaches, 30 miles to Grand Rapids, 150 miles to Traverse City wine country, and about 240 miles to the Mackinac Bridge, so it pays to estimate your route first. Pro tip: total your planned miles, then filter listings by mileage allowance or message the host to add an unlimited-mileage package before booking.

weather.gov/grr/climateI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, and you won't be left guessing. Every RVezy host provides an in-person walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, propane, slide-outs, the generator, and dumping tanks, so first time renting an RV folks leave feeling confident. The Hopkins area is especially beginner-friendly: rural roads like M-222 and M-40 are flat, wide, and low-traffic, perfect for getting your bearings before heading to busier routes near Grand Rapids or Holland. If you want to skip driving entirely, choose a host with delivery and setup. Pro tip: practice a few right-hand turns and a back-in maneuver in an empty parking lot near downtown Wayland before pointing toward the campground.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's a good RV road trip from Hopkins, MI?
You're sitting on one of the best launch pads in the Midwest. A classic RV road trip from Hopkins might head 30 miles west to Holland and Saugatuck for Lake Michigan dunes and beaches, 45 miles south to South Haven and the Kal-Haven Trail, 130 miles north to Ludington State Park for the Big Sable lighthouse, or 175 miles north to Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Many hosts allow crossing into Canada (Windsor or Sault Ste. Marie), just confirm in advance; trips to Mexico are not permitted on RVezy. Pro tip: build in a sunset stop at Oval Beach in Saugatuck, it's one of Michigan's most photographed shorelines.
nps.gov/slbe/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Hopkins RV trip?
Budgeting is easier than you'd guess. Most travel trailers tow at 10 to 14 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs around 7 to 10 MPG, and campervans can hit 16 to 20 MPG. Michigan gas prices typically run close to the national average, and you'll find fuel along US-131 in Wayland and Plainwell with easy RV access. For a 300-mile weekend loop, a Class C will run roughly $90 to $130 in gas depending on current prices. Pro tip: use a fuel finder app like GasBuddy, and fuel up in Wayland before heading north, prices can climb as you approach the bridge.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Hopkins?
Plan ahead and you'll get the best sites. Michigan state park campgrounds, including Yankee Springs and Holland State Park, open reservations six months in advance through the Michigan DNR reservation system, and prime lakefront sites for July and August weekends often sell out within minutes of opening. Private parks like Hidden Ridge RV Resort and Sandy Pines typically take bookings two to three months out for summer, while shoulder-season weekdays in May, September, or October are often available just a week ahead. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Eastern, log in early, and have your site number ready, the difference is dramatic.
midnrreservations.com/What are driving conditions like around Hopkins?
You'll find Hopkins one of the more relaxing places to RV in Michigan. The area is flat to gently rolling farmland with wide rural roads (M-222, M-40, 12th Street), and the nearest highway, US-131, is a four-lane route with generous shoulders and easy RV-friendly exits in Wayland, Martin, and Plainwell. Watch for Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on county roads, especially in southern Allegan County: slow down and pass with extra space. Winter brings lake-effect snow from Lake Michigan, so check Michigan 511 road conditions if you're traveling November through March. Pro tip: avoid driving on US-31 near Holland on summer Friday afternoons; take M-40 through Hamilton instead.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at how dialed-in these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Hopkins booked on RVezy comes with sleeping for 4 to 8 (queen bed, bunks, convertible dinette), a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, furnace, hot water heater, and usually a TV. Many hosts also include a generator, outdoor awning, camp chairs, leveling blocks, and starter kits with pots, dishes, and bedding. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities tab for wifi hotspot, bike racks, or a griddle, small extras that make a Gun Lake weekend feel like a vacation rental on wheels.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hopkins,%20MichiganWhat add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?
There's lots of room to customize. Popular RVezy add-ons in the Hopkins area include linen and kitchen kits, portable generators, bike racks, kayaks, extra propane, and the very popular delivery and setup package. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Hopkins, Wayland, Dorr, or Martin, and they'll spend 30 to 60 minutes walking you through the systems. Drop-off is typically in the morning with the RV cleaned and tanks dumped (or pay a small dump fee to skip it). Pro tip: ask for delivery to Yankee Springs Recreation Area, you'll arrive to a fully set-up campsite and start your weekend on the beach.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hopkins,%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay the full trip cost (rental, fees, and any add-ons) through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at the time of booking: no cash or off-platform payment ever needed. Each host sets a refundable security deposit, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars for an RV rental in Hopkins, which is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card before pickup. As long as the RV comes back in the agreed condition, the hold is released after return. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with the host at pickup and drop-off. It's the single best way to keep your deposit safe.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Hopkins RV rental to Canada?
Yes, cross-border trips are often welcome. Many RVezy hosts in Hopkins allow travel into Canada (Windsor is about 200 miles southeast, Sault Ste. Marie about 320 miles north), as long as you message and confirm before booking, since the host needs to provide a cross-border travel letter and verify insurance coverage. You'll need a valid passport or enhanced driver's license, and any pets traveling with you need up-to-date rabies vaccination records. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. Pro tip: declare any fresh produce, meat, and firewood at the border, Canadian customs is strict about invasive species, and a quick honest declaration keeps your trip moving.
