RV camping near Jenison, Michigan
Jenison sits in Ottawa County just west of Grand Rapids, placing RV travelers within a short drive of the Grand River, Lake Michigan beaches, and the wooded interior of West Michigan. The area works well as a base for family trips that mix city amenities with lakeshore and river recreation, and most nearby campgrounds are private parks that accept larger rigs with full hookups.
Steamboat Park Campground and Baldwin Oaks Campground are among the closest options, both sitting along or near the Grand River corridor. Chapel in the Pines Family Campground LLC and Woodchip Campground offer quieter, wooded settings on the outskirts of town, while Allendale/W Grand Rapids KOA Holiday provides the standardized amenities of the KOA system a short drive west toward Allendale.
Jenison itself keeps grocery, fuel, dump station access, and RV service points close at hand, which makes it a practical stop for renters heading toward Holland, Grand Haven, or the Muskegon dunes.
Things to do around Jenison
The Grand River and its tributaries anchor most local recreation. Renters can paddle or fish from access points near Steamboat Park Campground, ride the Musketawa and Fred Meijer Pioneer trails by bike, and reach Lake Michigan beaches at Holland State Park and Grand Haven State Park within roughly thirty to forty-five minutes.
Families staying at Chapel in the Pines Family Campground LLC or Woodchip Campground are close to Hemlock Crossing Park, Pigeon Creek Park, and the Ottawa County park system, which offer swimming, disc golf, and short hikes. Downtown Grand Rapids adds the John Ball Zoo, Frederik Meijer Gardens, and the Grand Rapids Public Museum, all easy day trips from a Jenison-area site.

The main RV season in West Michigan runs from mid-May through mid-October. Most private parks near Jenison, including Steamboat Park Campground, Baldwin Oaks Campground, and Allendale/W Grand Rapids KOA Holiday, operate on a similar seasonal window and close for winter once overnight temperatures drop and water lines are shut off.
June through August is peak season. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book out first, and lakeshore state parks like Holland and Grand Haven often fill months in advance. Families targeting these weekends should reserve early and consider a Sunday-to-Thursday stay if flexibility allows.
Late spring and early fall are quieter. May can be cool and wet, but September delivers warm days, cooler nights, and lighter traffic on the trails and beaches. Fall color typically peaks in mid to late October, after which most campgrounds wind down for the season.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our camper immensely. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. Thank you
Brenda S. - Jul 2026
The camper is well taken care of, has everything you would need for a camping trip, and the host was really easy to communicate with and make time arrangements. We had it delivered and everything was very smooth and easy. We have two small boys who shared the oversized bottom bunk. This is a great RV for families, not too tight of quarters but still a very manageable towing size. I would definitely recommend this RV.

How to book near Jenison
Private campgrounds around Jenison generally take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and the KOA property books through the KOA reservation system. Holiday weekends and riverfront or pull-through sites at Steamboat Park Campground and Baldwin Oaks Campground tend to go first, so booking two to three months out is reasonable for summer weekends.
For Michigan state parks used as day trips or overflow stops, reservations run through the Michigan DNR central booking system and open on a rolling six-month window. Check each campground's rig-length limits, hookup type, and pet policy before confirming, and ask about big-rig access if the RV rental is thirty feet or longer.
What to expect at Jenison campgrounds
Expect a mix of open, sunny sites and shaded wooded loops. Steamboat Park Campground and Baldwin Oaks Campground lean toward larger family parks with pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities, while Chapel in the Pines Family Campground LLC and Woodchip Campground offer a smaller, quieter atmosphere.
Allendale/W Grand Rapids KOA Holiday follows standard KOA layouts with pull-through sites, full hookups, and on-site amenities such as a store and laundry. Cell coverage is generally strong across the Jenison area, and quiet hours are enforced at most parks.
Mosquitoes and biting flies are common near river bottoms in June and July, so bring repellent. Expect firewood to be sold on-site, with outside firewood restricted due to invasive pest rules in Michigan.

Pop-up campers and smaller campervans are often the cheapest RV rental Jenison options, while larger Class A coaches with bunks for families sit at the higher end. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jenison,MichiganDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Jenison?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Jenison. Michigan does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use RVs, motorhomes, or travel trailers booked through RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older and upload a valid photo ID during RVezy's quick online verification. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto club along with your home license. Most first-time renters in Jenison are surprised at how simple the paperwork really is.

July brings warm beach weather and Holland's summer festivals, while August offers ripe blueberry farms in West Olive. Winter rentals are possible too, just confirm the RV has a four-season package and heated tanks before booking.
weather.gov/grr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Jenison?
You're going to do great, and first time renting an RV in Jenison is one of the easiest places to start. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, propane, slide-outs, water, sewer, and the generator before you head out. Jenison's location is ideal for new drivers: you can stick to wide, flat roads like I-196, M-6, and US-31 to reach Lake Michigan beaches without navigating tight downtown streets. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host that offers delivery to Steamboat Park or your campground. Message the host with any questions before booking, they're real people, not a call center.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Cross-border travel into Canada from Jenison is sometimes allowed, but it depends on the host's approval and insurance coverage, so always message the host before booking if Ontario is part of your itinerary. The closest crossings are the Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron (about 200 miles east) and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel (about 170 miles southeast). You'll need a valid passport for every traveler. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Within the U.S., interstate travel is generally fine on a Jenison RV trip, so road trips to Chicago, Indiana Dunes, or Wisconsin's Door County are popular and straightforward.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's fuel going to cost on an RV road trip from Jenison?
Fuel is the biggest variable on any RV road trip from Jenison, but it's easy to plan. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and big Class A coaches sit around 7 to 10 mpg. Michigan gas prices in the Grand Rapids area typically run close to the national average for regular unleaded. A weekend trip to Holland State Park (about 50 miles round trip) might only burn $25 to $40 of fuel, while a week-long loop to Sleeping Bear Dunes and back can run $200 to $350. Fuel up at Costco in Wyoming or Meijer in Jenison for the best local pricing.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds for my Jenison RV trip?
For Michigan state parks, book as early as possible. Reservations open six months ahead through the Michigan DNR's reservation system, and prime lakeside spots at Holland State Park, Grand Haven State Park, and Ludington State Park for summer weekends often sell out within minutes of opening. Private campgrounds like Steamboat Park Campground in Jenison and Grand Rapids KOA also fill fast for July and August, so aim to book 3 to 6 months ahead. Weekday and shoulder-season stays are much easier to grab last-minute. Set a calendar reminder for the exact 6-month mark before your desired arrival date.
midnrreservations.com/What are driving conditions like around Jenison and West Michigan?
Driving around Jenison is RV-friendly: roads are flat, well-maintained, and wide. I-196, M-6, and US-131 are the main routes and easily handle Class A motorhomes. The biggest things to watch for are lake-effect snow squalls from November through March (which can drop visibility fast near the lakeshore), summer construction season on I-196, and a handful of low railroad underpasses in older Grand Rapids neighborhoods, so stick to interstates with your RV. Tulip Time traffic in Holland during early May can also slow you down. Always check Mi Drive for real-time road conditions and closures before heading out.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jenison,MichiganHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held on your card a few days before pickup and released back to you after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walkaround photo session with your host at both pickup and return, refill the fuel and propane to the same levels, and empty the holding tanks at a proper dump station before returning the RV.

Head about 25 miles west to Holland for tulip festivals and Lake Michigan beaches, about 40 miles southwest to Saugatuck Dunes State Park for hiking and art galleries, about 90 miles north to Ludington State Park for the Big Sable lighthouse, or about 175 miles north to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for unforgettable dune climbs.
