Jordan Lake anchors most local recreation. The 430-acre lake supports fishing, swimming, and boating in summer and draws snowmobilers and skaters in winter, and the beach, playground, and pavilion offer public access for families. A canal connects Jordan Lake to Tupper Lake, giving paddlers a longer route past turtles, herons, and pileated woodpeckers. At Ionia Recreation Area, Sessions Lake holds largemouth bass, panfish, walleye, and channel catfish, with a swimming beach, boat launch, and accessible fishing pier. Fall delivers hardwood color through October and quieter campgrounds, though some services scale back after Labor Day. Winter is cold and snowy. At Ionia Recreation Area, the modern campground has 98 campsites with 30-amp electric but no city water or sewer connections and no 50-amp sites, and sites can accommodate RVs with a maximum length of 45 feet. Two dump stations serve the campground, and campsites also have picnic tables and fire rings and are basically level. Sixteen rustic, hike-in campsites are accessible via a quarter-mile trail from the parking lot, with fire pits, picnic tables, vault toilets along the trail, potable water from a hand pump, and no electricity.
