Campgrounds and RV parks near Lawrence, MI

The area is built around lakes, farms, and the Lake Michigan coast. Van Buren State Park and South Haven's beaches offer swimming, sand days, and pier walks to the South Haven Lighthouse. The Kal-Haven Trail, a 34-mile rail-trail linking Kalamazoo and South Haven, runs a short drive north of Lawrence and works for cycling or a shaded walk. Families can plan farm stops for U-pick blueberries in July, apples and cider mills in September and October, and winery tours through Paw Paw and the Lake Michigan Shore AVA. Sarett Nature Center and Warren Woods State Park add hiking with old-growth beech-maple forest. Rainy-day options include the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven and the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, both under an hour by RV or tow vehicle.

The RV season in southwest Michigan runs roughly from May through mid-October. Most private campgrounds near Lawrence open in late April or early May and close by late October, once overnight lows drop and water systems are winterized. Warner Camp typically operates from around Memorial Day through mid-October. State park modern campgrounds along the coast follow a similar window, though a few loops stay open later. July and August are peak season. Lake Michigan beaches, blueberry U-picks, and long daylight hours drive strong demand, and weekends at coastal state parks and popular private resorts often sell out weeks or months ahead. Book early for holiday weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Late spring and early fall are quieter and cooler. September brings apple harvest, wine events in Paw Paw, and fall color that peaks in mid to late October. Winter camping is limited; most parks near Lawrence are closed, and travelers looking for cold-weather sites will need to check specific campground calendars.

Roads into the Lawrence area are flat to gently rolling, with easy two-lane county highways connecting I-94 to campground entrances. Larger fifth wheels and Class A rigs should still confirm turn radii and low-branch clearance at smaller private parks, especially older sites laid out for shorter trailers. Most private campgrounds near Lawrence offer full or partial hookups, potable water, dump stations, and Wi-Fi of variable quality. Cellular coverage is generally solid on the main carriers. Firewood is usually sold on-site, and Michigan rules discourage moving firewood between regions to limit invasive pests. Mosquitoes and stable flies can be active near inland lakes from June through August, so pack repellent. Beaches on Lake Michigan post daily swim flags, and rip currents are a real hazard, especially on windy afternoons.
