Campgrounds near Lennon, Michigan
Lennon is a small village straddling the Genesee and Shiawassee county line in mid-Michigan, along M-13 west of Flint. The area sits on gently rolling farmland at roughly 780 feet of elevation, with the Shiawassee River corridor running to the north and west. RV travelers use Lennon as a low-traffic base for reaching Flint, Frankenmuth, Chesaning, and the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge without staying inside a metro area.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Walnut Hills Family Campground, located in Durand along the Shiawassee River, is run by GatherGrounds Resorts and includes an onsite canoe livery, a swimming lake with a Wibit water park and beach, sand volleyball, horseshoe pits, and playgrounds throughout the park. The property spans 45 acres and features 203 grassy sites. Holiday Shores RV Park is another established option in the Durand area, popular with families looking for full-hookup sites and on-site recreation.
Further out, Hide Away Park Campground offers a quieter option, while Chesaning Show Boat Campground and the Saginaw County Fairgrounds extend the search north into Saginaw County for river access, festivals, and event-week overflow camping.
Things to do near Lennon
Water activity is the main draw. Walnut Hills Family Campground has an on-site canoe livery, Cheff's Canoe Rental, where guests can rent a canoe or kayak to float the Shiawassee River, with two float options available and pickup or drop-off included. The same park has a swimming lake with a Wibit water park and offers full hookup, water, electric, and dump station sites.
Day trips are short. Frankenmuth, Birch Run outlets, and the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge are all within roughly thirty to forty-five minutes. Flint's Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad add a heritage-rail stop that works well for families.
Chesaning Show Boat Campground sits inside a municipal park on the Shiawassee River, and the Saginaw County Fairgrounds hosts fair week and other seasonal events.

The camping season around Lennon is short and clearly bounded. Reservations at Walnut Hills Family Campground in Durand run from May 1 through October 1. Most other private parks in the area follow a similar early-May through mid-October window, with the campground inside Chesaning Show Boat Park generally opening later and closing by mid-September.
June through August is peak season. Weekends fill early at family-focused parks with pools, water features, and event calendars, and holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) sell out weeks ahead. September brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier last-minute bookings, with fall color usually peaking in mid-October.
Winter camping is very limited. Private Michigan campgrounds are required by state rules to close for part of the year, so travelers arriving between November and April should confirm operating dates directly and expect frozen or shut-off water service at any site that does remain open.

How to book
Booking channels vary by property. Holiday Shores RV Park handles reservations through its office, so calling ahead is the reliable path. Walnut Hills Family Campground books through GatherGrounds Resorts and can be reached at (989) 634-9782 at 7685 Lehring Rd, Durand.
The campground at Chesaning Show Boat Park is administered by the Village of Chesaning, so reservations and cancellation terms are handled through the village office or its online reservation portal. Saginaw County Fairgrounds camping is tied to event schedules and is handled through the fair office.
For summer weekends, reserve six to eight weeks ahead. For fair week in Chesaning and the July 4 window, book as soon as the season opens.
What to expect on site
Sites in this area are mostly level and grassy on flat to gently rolling terrain at roughly 750 to 800 feet of elevation. Walnut Hills Family Campground offers full hookup sites along with water, electric, and dump station options, and larger private parks in the area generally accept big rigs, though full-hookup availability varies by site. Municipal options such as Chesaning Show Boat lean toward electric-only sites with a central dump station.
Expect a family-heavy crowd in July and August, with playgrounds, water features, and weekend events. Low-lying sites at riverside parks like Walnut Hills have a documented flooding problem after heavy rain, so campers should ask specifically about site elevation when booking, particularly in spring.
Cell coverage is generally good, tree cover is mixed, and mosquitoes are active near the river from late May through August. Pack accordingly.
