Maple Rapids is a small village in Clinton County, central Lower Michigan, roughly a half hour north of Lansing and within easy driving distance of St. Johns, Ithaca, and Owosso. The surrounding landscape is farm country cut by the Maple River and dotted with small inland lakes, which sets the tone for the RV camping in the area: quiet private parks, family resorts, and one large state park. The closest options include Leisure Lake Family Campground, South Shore Campground, Just In Time Campground, and Snow Lake Campground, all private parks with a mix of seasonal and short-stay RV sites. Sleepy Hollow State Park, southeast of Maple Rapids, covers over 2,600 acres and centers on 410-acre Lake Ovid, formed by damming the Little Maple River. Most travelers use Maple Rapids as a low-traffic base for exploring mid-Michigan: Lansing museums, Michigan State University in East Lansing, and the Great Lakes shorelines within a two-hour drive to either side.
