Campgrounds near Middleville, Michigan
Middleville sits in Barry County in southwest Michigan, along the Thornapple River and within a short drive of the Gun Lake area. The village serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the lakes, rivers, and hardwood forests of the region, with the largest concentration of public camping at Yankee Springs Recreation Area, located in southwest Michigan near Middleville on Gun Lake in Barry County.
Gun Lake - Yankee Springs RA anchors the public options, with a 200-site modern campground on Gun Lake that includes restrooms, showers, a camper boat launch, and beach, plus rustic and equestrian areas spread across a 5,200-acre recreation area. Private and semi-private options along the Thornapple River include Indian Valley Campground Canoe Livery, Indian Valley Campground & Canoe Livery, Sharp Park Campground, and Whispering Waters Campground and Kayak Rental in nearby Hastings.
Most sites in the area accommodate a mix of tent, trailer, and larger RV setups. Modern loops at Gun Lake feature electrical hookups, paved site pads, and access to modern restrooms and showers, while river campgrounds lean toward full-hookup and long-stay layouts.
Things to do around Middleville
Water dominates the local recreation. Gun Lake and the surrounding inland lakes offer excellent panfish, northern pike, muskie, and bass fishing, and the Thornapple River supports easygoing paddling that families can float from launch points near Middleville and Hastings. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through liveries attached to several riverside campgrounds.
On land, Yankee Springs holds a 13-mile mountain bike loop with rugged hills, sandy terrain, and a creek crossing, along with a 9-mile Nordic trail network for cross-country skiing and additional hiking and equestrian routes. Devil's Soupbowl, a captivating glacial formation, and the Graves Hill Overlook are notable stops within the park. The Paul Henry-Thornapple Trail parallels the river and connects small towns for biking and walking day trips.

Peak camping runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Gun Lake beaches, boat ramps, and modern loops at Yankee Springs are in heaviest use. Campsites fill fast on summer weekends, so booking early for busy dates is important, and waterfront sites at the state park are typically the first to book. Daytime highs commonly sit in the upper 70s to mid-80s, with warm lake water by late summer.
Late spring and early fall are quieter and cooler. May tends to be the wettest month locally, so expect soft ground on unpaved sites and river levels that can rise after storms. September and October bring hardwood color, lighter crowds, and generally reliable weather for hiking and paddling before overnight lows drop toward freezing.
Winter shifts the park toward cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing on nearby lakes. Most private RV parks in the area, including Whispering Waters Campground and Kayak Rental, operate seasonally from late spring into early fall and are closed the rest of the year.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our camper immensely. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. Thank you
Brenda S. - Jul 2026
The camper is well taken care of, has everything you would need for a camping trip, and the host was really easy to communicate with and make time arrangements. We had it delivered and everything was very smooth and easy. We have two small boys who shared the oversized bottom bunk. This is a great RV for families, not too tight of quarters but still a very manageable towing size. I would definitely recommend this RV.

How to book campsites near Middleville
Public sites at Gun Lake - Yankee Springs RA are reserved through MiDNRReservations.com or by calling 1-800-44-PARKS (1-800-447-2757). Campsites, overnight lodging, and harbor slips can be reserved up to 6 months to the date of arrival in advance, and popular summer weekends often sell out early. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle access to state parks, recreation areas, state-managed boating access sites, state forest campgrounds, and thousands of miles of trails.
Private campgrounds along the Thornapple River, including Indian Valley Campground Canoe Livery, Indian Valley Campground & Canoe Livery, Sharp Park Campground, and Whispering Waters Campground and Kayak Rental, book directly through the campground. Some enforce minimum stays for holiday weekends, and several lean toward seasonal or long-stay campers.
What to expect on-site
The Gun Lake campground offers 200 campsites, restrooms, showers, a camper boat launch, and beach, with sanitation stations conveniently located near the park entrances for those in RVs or trailers. Sites vary in size, some can be tight for larger rigs, and most are wooded with fairly level pads. Deep Lake within Yankee Springs has 78 rustic sites with no electricity, vault toilets, and hand pumps for potable water.
Private riverside campgrounds generally provide hookups, laundry, and river access for paddling. Camping check-in starts at 3 p.m. and checkout is 1 p.m., with quiet hours from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Michigan restricts moving firewood to slow invasive pests, so plan to buy certified heat-treated firewood on-site or from nearby stores rather than hauling it in.

There's no CDL or special endorsement required for any RV on the RVezy platform, whether you're driving a compact campervan or a 32-foot Class C motorhome. weather.gov/grr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and tank systems before you leave the driveway. If you're nervous about driving at all, ask your host about delivery so the RV arrives fully set up. You can also message the host anytime during your trip with questions, and RVezy support is available 24/7 if you need backup.
michigan.gov/msp/divisions/traffic-safetyWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Middleville?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Just call the number provided at pickup and help is dispatched to your location, whether you're on the Thornapple River trails, at Gun Lake, or cruising US-131 toward Grand Rapids. Your host is also a great first call for quick questions about quirks specific to their rig. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Middleville RV rental into Canada or other states?
Cross-border and out-of-state travel is often allowed, but you'll want to confirm with your host before booking since policies vary by listing. Crossing into Canada (about 3 hours from Middleville via the Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron) is sometimes permitted with advance approval and the right documentation, including a passport. Travel into other US states like Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois is generally straightforward. One important note: travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limitations. Popular interstate trips from Middleville include the Indiana Dunes (about 2.5 hours) and Chicago (about 3 hours). Message your host directly to confirm before finalizing your route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Middleville RV trip?
Realistic fuel budgeting makes any RV camping Middleville trip stress-free. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG). Michigan gas prices generally hover near the national average, and you'll find competitive prices at the Speedway and Meijer stations in nearby Hastings and Wayland. For a typical 3-night Yankee Springs trip with about 100 miles of driving, plan on around $50 to $75 in fuel for a midsize Class C. Fill up in Wayland or Hastings before heading into the recreation area, since options inside the park are limited.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Middleville?
For summer weekends at Yankee Springs Recreation Area, book as early as you can. Michigan DNR reservations open exactly 6 months ahead at MiDNRReservations.com, and Gun Lake Campground's lakefront sites for July and August often fill within days of opening. For weekday stays or shoulder-season trips in May and September, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually plenty. Private parks like Indian Valley Campground and Sharp Park Campground also book through their own websites and tend to fill 1 to 2 months in advance for summer. If Gun Lake is full, check Deep Lake's rustic sites, which often have last-minute openings even in July.
midnrreservations.com/What are the driving conditions like around Middleville?
Driving an RV around Middleville is refreshingly easygoing. Roads like M-37, M-179, Patterson Road, and Cherry Valley Avenue are wide, well-maintained, and have minimal hills, making them friendly for first-time RV drivers. US-131, just 7 miles west, is your direct highway to Grand Rapids (north) and Kalamazoo (south). The main things to watch for: deer at dawn and dusk (especially near Yankee Springs), occasional Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural Barry County roads, and winter snow from December to March, which can mean reduced visibility and icy patches. Summer brings warm dry weather mostly in the 70s and 80s. Download offline maps before you leave, since cell signal can be spotty inside the recreation area.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Middleville?
You'll find a great range. Gun Lake Campground at Yankee Springs has electric service on every site, a centrally located sanitation/dump station, modern restrooms with hot showers, potable water fill stations, and a buoyed swim beach. Deep Lake Campground is rustic with vault toilets and hand pumps for water (no electric), which makes it cheap and peaceful. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry to state parks.

Most RV rentals in Middleville come fully equipped so you can roll in and start camping. Expect comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 people (queen beds, bunks, convertible dinettes), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and a dining area. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes typically include a TV, sound system, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many rigs also have a generator for off-grid use, an outdoor awning, and Wi-Fi hotspots (sometimes as an add-on). Each listing details exactly what's included, and you can message the host with specific questions like whether they provide bedding or a coffee maker before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Middleville,%20MichiganWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Middleville often offer popular add-ons that make your trip easier: bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, bikes or kayaks, generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and propane top-offs. Delivery to Gun Lake, Sharp Park, Deep Lake, or your home is one of the most-loved options (fees vary by distance). Pickup is usually at the host's home, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included so you leave confident. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per day to unlimited, and you'll see the exact rules on each listing before booking. Ask about a generator add-on if you're heading to Deep Lake, since that rustic campground has no electric hookups.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Middleville,%20MichiganHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and entirely handled through the RVezy platform, so you never have to swap cash or e-transfers with your host. You'll pay the rental total at booking using a credit card, and the funds are held securely. A refundable security deposit is also placed on your card before your trip (the amount is shown on the listing) and is separate from your booking payment. As long as you return the RV in the condition you got it, on time, with the right fuel and tank levels, your deposit is released after the trip. Take date-stamped photos and a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff. It prevents disputes and makes your Middleville RV rental experience smooth from start to finish.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best RV road trips from Middleville?

Cruise north on US-131 to Traverse City for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Old Mission Peninsula wineries (about 3 hours total). Drive 35 miles southwest to Saugatuck-Douglas for art galleries and dune rides. Or go big with a 4-hour trip to Mackinaw City and the Upper Peninsula. Closer to home, the 25-mile run up to downtown Grand Rapids puts you in front of craft breweries and the Frederik Meijer Gardens.
