Campgrounds and RV parks near Napoleon, MI

Napoleon is a small township in Jackson County in south-central Michigan, positioned between the city of Jackson to the northwest and the Irish Hills region to the south. The Irish Hills area sits in southeastern Jackson County and northwest Lenawee County, named after the Irish immigrants who settled the region in the mid-1800s. The landscape is defined by rolling terrain and kettle lakes left behind by glaciers, which shapes most of the camping options within a short drive. RV renters typically use Napoleon as a base for lake-focused camping. Nearby private parks include Apple Creek Campground and RV Park, Greenwood Acres Family Campground, Juniper Hills Campground, Hideaway RV Park, and Irish Hills Resort Campgrounds. These properties trend family-oriented, with a mix of shaded wooded sites and open, grassy sites suited to travel trailers and motorhomes. Public land options are anchored by W.J. Hayes State Park on Wamplers and Round lakes in the heart of the Irish Hills, a 654-acre park with a modern campground located roughly 20 minutes south of Napoleon. Cambridge Junction Historic State Park and Watkins Lake State Park are within a short drive.

State park sites at W.J. Hayes and other nearby parks are reserved through the Michigan DNR system. Campsites, overnight lodging, and harbor slips can be reserved up to six months to the date of arrival in advance, while pavilions and shelters can be reserved up to twelve months in advance. Reservations open daily at 8 a.m. Eastern at MiDNRReservations.com or by calling 1-800-447-2757. Popular campgrounds and dates fill fast, often within minutes of the booking window opening, so setting a calendar reminder for exactly six months before arrival is worthwhile for summer weekends. A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into all state park and state forest campgrounds. Private parks such as Apple Creek Campground and RV Park, Greenwood Acres Family Campground, Juniper Hills Campground, Hideaway RV Park, and Irish Hills Resort Campgrounds handle their own reservations by phone or on their websites. For Michigan International Speedway race weekends, on-track camping is booked directly through the speedway.
