Campgrounds and RV parks near Paw Paw Lake, MI

Paw Paw Lake itself is the main draw for boating, tubing, kayaking, and shoreline swimming. Public access points around Coloma and Watervliet let RV renters launch small craft, and rentals are available seasonally in town. Lake Michigan beaches are 20 to 30 minutes west. Van Buren State Park offers high dune formations, a modern campground, a mile of sandy beach, woodland trails, and a day-use area. The Van Buren State Park Spur Trail provides a paved route to South Haven, connects to the gravel Van Buren Trail State Park continuing about 12 miles south to Hartford, and links to the Kal-Haven Trail State Park for another 33.5 miles east toward Kalamazoo. South Haven adds a harbor, lighthouse, and the Michigan Maritime Museum. The surrounding fruit belt supports wineries, cideries, and pick-your-own orchards from summer through fall.

The camping season here is tightly seasonal. Van Buren State Park is typically open from about April 1 through December 1, with modern bathhouse facilities available during the core season. Private parks like Coloma / St. Joseph KOA Holiday and Covert / South Haven KOA Holiday generally follow a similar spring-through-fall window, with limited shoulder-season service. Summer is peak. The area is usually busiest from mid-June through late August, when Lake Michigan water is warmest and beach days line up. July and August weekends fill first, especially for lakefront and full-hookup pull-through sites suitable for larger rentals. Spring brings cool nights and steady rainfall, with lake water still cold into June. Fall is quieter, with warm days, cool nights, orchard harvests, and strong color through October. Winter closes most campgrounds; lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan is common inland, and roads to beach access points may be limited.

Sites vary widely by park. Private KOAs offer full hookups, pull-throughs sized for larger Class A and fifth-wheel rentals, Wi-Fi, pools, and family programming. State-park sites are more basic: Van Buren State Park has 220 campsites with electric hookups (a mix of 30 and 50 amp) for tents, trailers, and RVs, sitting a short walk from the beach, with potable water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, and an RV dump station. Expect sandy soil, mixed sun and shade, and mosquitoes near wooded and marshy areas in early summer. Cell service in the state park is fair and can be spotty in more rural spots between Coloma and the lakeshore. Quiet hours are enforced at state park sites, and pets are allowed with restrictions but not on designated swim beaches.
