Campgrounds near Perry, Michigan
Perry sits in Shiawassee County in mid-Michigan, roughly halfway between Lansing and Flint along I-69. The area gives RV travelers easy access to a mix of public and private campgrounds within a short drive, most of them set on inland lakes or wooded rural acreage typical of the lower peninsula.
The closest public option is Sleepy Hollow State Park, a Michigan DNR park about twenty minutes west of Perry, built around 410-acre Lake Ovid. It offers 181 modern campsites suitable for RVs, plus rustic sites, cabins, and a group camp area. Private campgrounds in the area include Campgrounds-R-Us, Walnut Hills Family Campground, Water's Edge Camp & Conference Center, and Taylor's Beach Campground, which tend to cater to families and seasonal renters with hookups, playgrounds, and swim access.
Most sites within thirty to forty minutes of Perry are pull-through or back-in RV sites on wooded lots. Grocery, fuel, and dump-station access is straightforward from I-69 or US-127.
Things to do near Perry
Lake Ovid at Sleepy Hollow State Park is the main outdoor draw. It is a no-wake lake, which keeps it calm for paddling, kayaking, and fishing from the shore or the four fishing piers. The park also has a swim beach, a boat launch, and an 18-hole disc golf course open year-round.
On land, the park has about 16 miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails plus separate equestrian trails through prairie, hardwood forest, and pine stands. Birders have logged more than 228 species at the park, with strong waterfowl viewing on Lake Ovid during spring and fall migration.
Beyond the park, Perry itself offers small-town dining and services, and Lansing, East Lansing, and the Michigan State University campus are all within about thirty minutes for a day trip.

The main Michigan camping season runs from roughly late April through mid-October, with peak demand between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Summer brings warm days, warm lake water, and long daylight hours, but also the highest booking pressure at Sleepy Hollow State Park and nearby private campgrounds. Weekends near the Fourth of July and Labor Day book out earliest.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. June is typically the wettest month of the year, and spring shoulder weeks can be muddy, while September and early October usually deliver crisp nights, fall color through the hardwoods, and good availability. Mosquitoes are heaviest from late May into July.
Winter camping is limited. Sleepy Hollow State Park stays open year-round for day use, with snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing on Lake Ovid, but most private campgrounds around Perry close their RV loops from late fall through early spring. Confirm season dates directly with each campground before booking.

We had a great weekend! Pickup and drop off were easy to coordinate and the unit was so light to tow with our Subaru outback. The camper came well equipped and was perfect for off-grid camping.

Beautiful, spacious and very clean trailer. Travis & Tiffany were amazing hosts! We had a leak at the kitchen faucet and Travis didn’t hesitate to come replace it. I wish I could give more stars. This was the best trailer & hosts I have rented from. And I have rented a few trailers. Thank you so much Travis & Tiffany for sharing your gem!

How to book a site near Perry
Sleepy Hollow State Park uses the Michigan DNR reservation system. Sites, cabins, and shelters can be reserved online at MiDNRReservations.com or by phone at 1-800-44-PARKS. Bookings open on a rolling six-month window, and summer weekends at popular Lower Peninsula parks regularly sell out when that window opens, so early booking is strongly recommended.
Every vehicle entering a Michigan state park also needs a Recreation Passport, which can be added to a Michigan vehicle registration or purchased at the park entrance for out-of-state visitors. Group camp areas at Sleepy Hollow are reserved by calling the park directly.
Private campgrounds such as Campgrounds-R-Us, Walnut Hills Family Campground, Water's Edge Camp & Conference Center, and Taylor's Beach Campground handle their own bookings by phone or through their websites.
What to expect on the ground near Perry
Modern loops at Sleepy Hollow State Park have asphalt or concrete pads, electric hookups (some with 50-amp service), a picnic table, and a fire ring at each site. There is a sanitation station on site, and some pull-through sites are available. Two vehicles are allowed per campsite, and quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Pets are welcome on a six-foot leash, and the park has a dog beach. Michigan restricts moving firewood between regions to slow invasive pests, so buy certified heat-treated firewood locally rather than hauling it in.
Private campgrounds in the area vary in hookup levels, so confirm 30- versus 50-amp service, sewer, and rig-length limits at booking.
