Camping near Reed City, Michigan
Reed City sits in Osceola County in west-central Lower Michigan, at the junction of US-131 and US-10, which makes it a practical staging point for RV trips into the Manistee National Forest and the Muskegon River corridor. The town is a trailhead hub, with the Pere Marquette State Trail and the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park both passing through, giving campers paved rail-trail access from many nearby campgrounds.
The area around Reed City leans rural and wooded, with small inland lakes, trout streams, and long stretches of the Muskegon River within a 30-minute drive. River Ridge RV Resort overlooks the 4,000-acre Muskegon River with pontoon rentals and boat slips, and offers overnight and seasonal sites from April 15 through October 30 in a gated community.
Families with kids will find full-service options close in. CranHill Ranch Family Campground, Rose Lake Park, Riverside Park Campground, River Ridge RV Resort, and River Country Campground cover the range from county-park camping to riverside RV resorts, most within a short drive of Reed City itself.
Things to do around Reed City
Water dominates the local activity list. The Muskegon River is the region's main draw for paddling, tubing, and fishing, and several outfitters run shuttles from the campgrounds. River Country Campground sits on the scenic, family-friendly Muskegon River and runs a livery with tubes, canoes, and kayaks, plus a store, rec room, horseshoes, basketball, playground, and nature trails.
On land, the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail and the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park give cyclists paved miles in both directions from Reed City. Rose Lake Park has 1,300 feet of sandy beach on the north shore of Rose Lake, plus a swimming beach, playground, boat launch, store, mini-golf, shuffleboard, basketball, and a dump station.
CranHill Ranch layers on ranch-style extras: over 3 miles of trails through woods and wetlands, a 250-foot zip line that requires climbing a 12-foot ladder and 30-foot pole, with riders at least 10 years old and under 275 pounds, and disc golf.

The RV season in this part of Michigan is short and clearly defined. Most private and public campgrounds around Reed City run from early May through late September. Osceola County's 2026 camping season begins on May 1 and ends on September 26, with reservations taken up to 6 months in advance. Evart's Riverside Park Campground runs a similar seasonal window along the Muskegon River.
Summer is peak. July and August bring the warmest water for tubing the Muskegon and the strongest demand for riverfront sites, so holiday weekends fill early. June and early September are quieter, with cool nights and fewer bugs after the late-spring black-fly window.
Winter closures are the norm. River Ridge RV Resort is open April 15 through October 30, and most nearby parks shutter through the snow season. Campers who want shoulder-season stays should confirm hookups, since some parks turn off water lines before the posted closing date if a hard freeze arrives early.
How to book campgrounds near Reed City
Reservation systems vary by campground, so it pays to know which platform each uses. Osceola County uses Campspot for online booking; Rose Lake Park reservations are made through campspot.com/book/rose-lake-park, and the county parks office can be reached at (231) 832-6130. River Country Campground also lists through Campspot, while CranHill Ranch takes bookings through its own website.
Riverside Park Campground in Evart handles reservations through Evart City Hall at 231-734-2181, with the park office reachable at 231-734-5901. For summer weekends and holidays, aim to book several months out, especially for river-view sites.
River Ridge RV Resort restricts RVs to between 24 and 45 feet long and no more than 10 years old unless approved in advance by management, and does not allow tents, so renters should confirm rig details at booking.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in the Reed City area skew wooded and level, with pine and hardwood cover. Cell coverage is inconsistent once campers leave the US-131 corridor, and Wi-Fi at rural parks can be spotty. One long-time camper at River Country notes the canoeing on the Muskegon is awesome, but cell service is basically nonexistent for most providers.
Hookups run the full range. Rose Lake Park features 160 wooded sites, most with water and electric, 12 primitive sites, 3 modern bathhouses with showers and flush toilets, a camp store, and a dump station. River Ridge sites are full hook-up with 50 amp service and cable TV, with wireless internet available and beautifully landscaped lots with individual firepits. CranHill sites have 30 amp electric and water with an on-site dump station, each with a picnic table and fire pit, and all-natural surfaces rather than concrete slabs.
Expect wildlife: whitetail deer, wild turkey, and mosquitoes near the river in early summer. Firewood is sold on-site at CranHill, and guests are asked not to bring their own wood due to the spread of disease and insects.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Reed City, MI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Reed City, MI?
RV rental in Reed City is a great value compared to popular Michigan tourist hubs like Traverse City or Mackinaw. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs sit around $250 to $400. You will usually save the most by booking midweek stays in May or September, when summer demand around the White Pine and Pere Marquette Trails eases up. For a cheap RV rental Reed City trip, filter for travel trailers with delivery included so you skip towing costs entirely. Pro tip: bundling a Sunday through Thursday stretch around a Hersey River fishing weekend can shave noticeable dollars off peak July rates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20City%2C%20MichiganWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Reed City, Michigan?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Reed City. Michigan does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, motorhomes, or travel trailers used recreationally. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and you will confirm your identity directly through the platform during checkout, which usually takes just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. With paperwork sorted, you can focus on the fun stuff, like picking which trailhead at the Reed City Depot you will roll out from first.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs renting an RV in Reed City safe? What protection is included?
Every RV rental in Reed City booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit M-115 or US-131 with real peace of mind. Protection plans cover most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), which means you control how much extra reassurance you want. Roadside help is one tap away if you get a flat near Hersey or need a jump at Rambadt Memorial Park. Book confidently, then start planning that scenic ride up to Cadillac.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Reed City RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every trip (not individual hosts), with a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Reed City RV trip without second-guessing. Refund eligibility after that window depends on how far out your trip start date is, which matters in mid-Michigan where late-spring storms or early snow can shift plans. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credit so you can rebook. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Pere Marquette Trail-adjacent rigs, knowing the standard cancellation policy gives you flexibility.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Reed City RV trip?
Absolutely, and Reed City is a tail-wagger's paradise. Plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Reed City options exist on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see every host who welcomes furry passengers. Michigan state parks (including Mitchell State Park about 30 miles north) allow leashed pets at campsites, on most trails, and at non-swim beach areas. The Pere Marquette Rail-Trail running right through downtown Reed City is paved and shaded, making it perfect for a morning dog walk. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and to ask about a tie-out spot at the campsite.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Reed City?
Yes, RV delivery in Reed City is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to RVing or just want to skip towing on US-131. Many Reed City-area hosts will deliver directly to nearby campgrounds like Rambadt Memorial Park or School Section Lake Veteran's Park in Mecosta, or even farther out to Mitchell State Park in Cadillac. They will level the rig, hook up power and water, prep the tanks, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are set by each host and usually based on distance. Pro tip: ask for delivery to your campsite the morning of check-in so you maximize trail time on day one.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20City%2C%20MichiganHow far can I travel on an RV road trip from Reed City?
Reed City's nickname is Michigan's Crossroads for a reason: you are perfectly positioned for an epic RV road trip from Reed City in any direction. Traverse City sits about 75 miles north (roughly 90 minutes), Ludington and the Lake Michigan shoreline is about 65 miles west, Mackinaw City and the bridge are about 175 miles north, and Grand Rapids is about 65 miles south. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a doable 110-mile drive northwest. Many hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage; others set a daily cap with a small per-mile fee beyond. Pro tip: filter by Unlimited Mileage if you are planning multi-stop loops up the Sunrise or Sunset Coast.
michigan.org/things-to-do/road-tripsWhere can I camp with my RV near Reed City?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Reed City. Top picks within 30 minutes include Rambadt Memorial Park right in town along the Hersey River, Sportsman's Port Campground in Canadian Lakes, and School Section Lake Veteran's Park in Mecosta. A little farther afield, Mitchell State Park in Cadillac (about 30 miles north) offers modern sites near two connected lakes, and Newaygo State Park sits about 40 miles southwest. Some of the best campgrounds near Reed City book up fast for July and August weekends. Pro tip: reserve Michigan state park sites through the official MiDNR Reservations system up to six months in advance.
midnrreservations.com/When is the best time to visit Reed City in an RV?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV trip in Reed City, with each window offering something special. June through August brings warm days commonly in the high 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit and ideal Hersey River swimming, though weekends fill fast around the Fourth of July. September is arguably the best-kept secret: fewer bugs, mild 60s to low 70s afternoons, and leaves on the White Pine Trail start turning. Early October delivers peak fall color across Osceola County. Winters are real with significant snowfall and lows often in the teens, so a winter rental requires a four-season rig, which a few local hosts do offer. Pro tip: book the last weekend of September for color season magic without October crowds.
weather.gov/grr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Reed City?
You've got this, and Reed City is honestly one of the easiest places in Michigan to learn. Roads here are flat, traffic is light, and US-131 (the main north-south route) is a four-lane expressway with generous shoulders, perfect for first time renting an RV. Every host gives a thorough orientation at pickup covering propane, slides, tanks, and braking, plus you can message them during your trip. Travel trailers under 25 feet and Class C motorhomes are the most beginner-friendly picks for this area. Pro tip: take an easy practice loop on M-20 west toward Big Rapids before heading up north, which builds confidence on a quiet, scenic stretch.
michigan.gov/mdotWhat happens if I break down during my Reed City RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Rambadt Memorial Park or pulled over on M-115 near Cadillac. Common roadside services include tire changes, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Reed City has auto and RV service shops along US-131, and Big Rapids (about 15 miles south) has additional repair options. Your host is also a direct message away for quick tech questions about systems they know inside and out. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup so it is ready when you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Reed City RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Multi-state RV adventures from Reed City are easy and encouraged. You are free to travel anywhere in the continental United States, with popular cross-state routes heading into northern Indiana, Ohio, or up through Wisconsin via the Upper Peninsula. Cross-border travel into Canada (Sault Ste. Marie is about 240 miles north) depends on the individual host and their insurance, so message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: a classic loop from Reed City runs north to the Mackinac Bridge, across the UP to Munising's Pictured Rocks, then back down (roughly 600 miles round trip).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your motorhome rental Reed City trip is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck-plus-travel-trailer combo lands around 10 to 14 MPG. Michigan gas prices typically track near the national average, and Reed City has multiple stations right off US-131, including options that are easy to access with a larger rig. For a 300-mile round trip to Mackinaw City in a Class C, plan a fuel budget on the order of $110 to $140 depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up in Reed City before heading north, as prices often climb in tourist towns like Traverse City.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Reed City?
For peak summer weekends (mid-June through Labor Day), reserve Michigan state park campgrounds at least three to four months ahead, especially Mitchell State Park, Newaygo State Park, and Interlochen. The official Michigan DNR reservation system, MiDNRReservations.com, opens bookings up to six months in advance, and prime waterfront sites can vanish quickly after opening. Private campgrounds near Reed City like Sportsman's Port and School Section Lake are usually bookable two to four weeks out for non-holiday weekends. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for state park entry; check current rates on the Michigan DNR site before you go. Pro tip: Sunday through Wednesday nights have far better availability and often lower rates.
midnrreservations.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Reed City?
Driving an RV around Reed City is refreshingly stress-free. The town sits near the intersection of US-131 (a divided four-lane highway) and US-10 (an east-west route to Ludington), both wide, well-maintained, and easy to navigate in any size rig. Terrain is rolling but never steep, and there are no mountain passes or tight switchbacks anywhere in central Michigan. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk year-round, plus occasional Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural routes like M-66. Winter brings lake-effect snow from November through March, so summer and fall trips are smoothest. Pro tip: avoid US-131 northbound on Friday afternoons in July when cottage traffic from Grand Rapids stacks up; leave Thursday evening or early Saturday instead.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Reed City?
Campgrounds near Reed City run the full spectrum, so you can match amenities to your style. Rambadt Memorial Park offers electric and water hookups with a central dump station, while Mitchell State Park in Cadillac has modern sites with electric, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. Private parks like Sportsman's Port include full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, and laundry. Need to top off fresh water or dump tanks mid-trip? Most state parks offer dump access to registered guests. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter so you are ready for any hookup configuration you encounter.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parksWhat's included inside an RV rental in Reed City?
Reed City RV rentals come stocked and ready for adventure. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 people depending on size, climate control (furnace and air conditioning), and safety belts for travel passengers. Many rigs include a TV, and some hosts offer mobile Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on, which is a smart pick since cell coverage thins out north of Cadillac. Generators are commonly available on Class A and C motorhomes for off-grid use at rustic state forest sites. Pro tip: review the listing's amenity list and ask your host for a written inventory before pickup so you know exactly what is stocked (and what to bring, like linens or coffee).
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20City%2C%20MichiganWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with a Reed City RV?
Hosts offer a great mix of add-ons that make your campervan rental Reed City experience truly turnkey. Common extras include bedding and towel packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs and outdoor mats, bikes, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (perfect for nearby lakes and the Hersey River), grills, and portable Wi-Fi. Pickup is usually at the host's home, but many offer delivery to local campgrounds or even your driveway. Mileage policies are set by each host: some include a daily mileage allowance with a small overage fee, others offer unlimited mileage for flat-rate flexibility. Pro tip: review the listing's add-on menu before booking, since stacking a kayak and bedding package upfront is usually cheaper than sourcing them separately.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Reed%20City%2C%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay the booking total through RVezy's platform using a supported credit or debit card, which covers the nightly rate, fees, and any pre-selected add-ons. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup. As long as you return the rig in the condition you got it, with the agreed fuel level and tanks handled per host instructions, the deposit is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: take dated photos and a quick video walk-around at pickup and dropoff, which is the single best habit to ensure a smooth deposit return.
