Campgrounds near Stevensville, Michigan
Stevensville sits on Lake Michigan's southeast shore in Berrien County, roughly halfway between Benton Harbor and the Indiana state line. The area functions as a base for RV trips built around the lakeshore, the St. Joseph River, and southwest Michigan's wine country. Most campgrounds within a short drive fall into three categories: state park sites, municipal beach campgrounds, and privately run RV resorts.
Warren Dunes State Park is a 1,500-acre public recreation area located along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in Berrien County, and its large sand dunes and lakeshore beaches make it one of the most popular of Michigan's state parks. Just north, Weko Beach Campground is a municipal campground operated by the City of Bridgman, with 68 campsites and seven rustic cabins available May through mid-October.
Inland options include Eden Springs Park at the House of David in Benton Harbor, Fullers Resort and Campground on Clear Lake, and Bear Cave RV Campground, a Thousand Trails RV park in Buchanan along the St. Joseph River.
Things to do near Stevensville
The Lake Michigan shoreline is the main draw. Easy access to the dunes makes Warren Dunes a popular location for sandboarding, and the park offers eight miles of trails, swim beach, beach house, picnicking, playground, two campgrounds, concession store, metal detecting, cross-country skiing, and hunting. Tower Hill, the highest point in the park, stands 240 feet above Lake Michigan and is a common climb for families.
On the water, the Weko Beach boat launch is one of three direct access into Lake Michigan, permits 16 ft and under watercraft with no jet skis allowed, and is open May 1st to October 1st. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are offered on-site when surf conditions allow.
Inland, Bear Cave sits directly on the St. Joseph River with a boat launch, docks, and swimming access, and the river supports fishing and paddling. The surrounding area includes wineries, orchards, and Fernwood Botanical Gardens.

The camping season in southwest Michigan is compressed by lake-effect weather. Weko Beach offers camp sites and rustic cabins available May through mid-October, and Bear Cave operates April 15 to October 15. Warren Dunes State Park is open year-round, though most services scale back sharply outside the summer window.
July and August are peak season. Lake Michigan water temperatures are warmest in August, campgrounds run close to full most weekends, and campsite reservations open six months in advance, and it is not uncommon for sites to book up as soon as they become available. Late spring and early fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability.
Winter shuts down most private and municipal campgrounds in the region. Snow is significant, and Warren Dunes remains open primarily for day use, hiking, and cross-country skiing. The park also features significant bird diversity because it is a stopover location on a bird migration route.
How to book campgrounds near Stevensville
Reservation systems differ by campground type. For Warren Dunes, camping reservations are made through midnrreservations.com, or by phone at 1-800-447-2757. A Recreation Passport is required to visit all Michigan state parks, and camping reservation fees also apply.
Weko Beach reservations can be made online at www.bridgman.org or by email at [email protected]. Bear Cave RV Campground is part of the Thousand Trails network, with bookings through Thousand Trails or directly with the resort office; longer seasonal and annual site inquiries are handled separately.
For July, August, and holiday weekends, book as soon as the six-month window opens. Cancellations turn over during the season, so mid-week arrivals often free up sites that weekends do not.
What to expect on-site near Stevensville
Sites near the lake are sandy and often not level. The East and West Campgrounds at Weko Beach are at a dead end with no turnaround available, and some campsites may require extra care when leveling. Weko does not offer sewer hook-ups at individual sites, but a dump and fill station is available. Larger rigs should confirm site length before booking.
Warren Dunes has two campgrounds, Hilldebrandt Semi-Modern and Mt. Randall Modern. Warren Dunes State Park Campground has more than 200 sites, including tent-only sites, RV sites with electric hookups, and three mini cabins. Full hookups are not standard at state park sites.
Bear Cave offers a more resort-style setup with full hookup RV sites with 50-amp service on gravel pads alongside the St. Joseph River. The on-site cave is currently closed and will remain unavailable for the foreseeable future, with no confirmed reopening date.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Stevensville, MI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Stevensville, MI?
RV rental in Stevensville is one of the best-value ways to experience Michigan's Lake Michigan shoreline. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, camper vans from about $125 to $225, and Class C motorhomes generally between $175 and $300 per night. Hosts set their own pricing, so shoulder seasons (May, September, and early October) often deliver the cheapest RV rental Stevensville has on offer, sometimes 20 to 30 percent below July peak rates. Pro tip: book midweek and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pairing those savings with a quick drive to Warren Dunes State Park gives you a high-impact, low-cost Lake Michigan getaway.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stevensville,%20MichiganWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Stevensville, MI?
Good news: your standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Stevensville. Michigan does not require a special endorsement or commercial driver's license (CDL) for the motorhomes and travel trailers available on RVezy, including most Class A, Class B, and Class C rigs. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so the process is fast and secure. Visiting from outside the U.S.? An International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license keeps everything straightforward. Most first-time renters are surprised by how easy the licensing side really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Stevensville covered by protection and roadside assistance?
Yes, every RV rental in Stevensville booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-94 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and RVezy offers multiple coverage tiers that you (not the host) choose during checkout so you can match your comfort level. Roadside help is built in for things like flat tires, lockouts, or battery issues, whether you're parked at Warren Dunes or rolling toward Saugatuck. Pro tip: take photos at pickup as a quick reference, and you'll be set up for a smooth, worry-free Stevensville RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Stevensville RV trip plans change?
Plans change, and RVezy makes it low-risk to lock in your Stevensville RV trip. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period right after you book, so you can confirm your dates without second-guessing. Refunds beyond that window depend on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so you're not left scrambling. You can review the full policy on RVezy's Help Center before booking. Pro tip: book early for July and August when Warren Dunes and St. Joseph fill up fast, knowing the grace period has you covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Stevensville?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Stevensville options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when browsing listings, and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Your four-legged copilot will love the area too: Warren Dunes State Park allows leashed pets on most trails, and Grand Mere State Park, just minutes from Stevensville, has miles of dog-friendly dune trails. Note that Michigan state parks prohibit pets on designated swim beaches. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or rules, and pack a towel because sandy paws are part of every Lake Michigan adventure.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Stevensville?
Yes, RV delivery Stevensville is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to RVing. Many RVezy hosts in Southwest Michigan offer to drive the RV directly to your campsite at Warren Dunes State Park, Weko Beach Campground in Bridgman, or a nearby KOA, then set it up, level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, along with their delivery radius and fees. Pro tip: delivery is gold for families flying into South Bend International Airport (about 35 minutes away) who want to skip driving a big rig and dive straight into beach time.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stevensville,%20MichiganHow far can I drive on my Stevensville RV rental?
Plenty far, and you can absolutely find an RV rental with unlimited mileage in Stevensville on RVezy. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and additional miles for a small per-mile fee, while others list unlimited mileage right on the page. From Stevensville, Saugatuck is about 50 miles north, Holland is roughly 70 miles, Grand Rapids sits at about 95 miles, and Chicago is just under 100 miles west on I-94, making short cross-state hops easy. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer Michigan RV trip looping up to Sleeping Bear Dunes (about 240 miles north).
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stevensville,%20MichiganWhat are the best campgrounds near Stevensville, MI?
You're spoiled for choice with the best campgrounds near Stevensville. Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer (about 10 miles south) offers around 180 modern sites with electric hookups, towering sand dunes, and three miles of Lake Michigan beach. Weko Beach Campground in Bridgman has sites just steps from the water. Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday is a full-hookup family favorite northeast of town. Shamrock Park in Berrien Springs delivers year-round riverfront camping along the St. Joseph River, and Thousand Trails Bear Cave near Buchanan is a roomy RV-focused resort with a pool and clubhouse. Pro tip: reserve Warren Dunes the moment your dates are set, since lakeside sites are the first to disappear each season.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/parks/warren-dunesWhen is the best time for RV camping in Stevensville, MI?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping Stevensville, with July and August delivering the warmest Lake Michigan water (mid-70s F) and air temps consistently in the 75 to 85 F range. June brings long days and fewer crowds, while September offers warm sand, crisp evenings around 55 F, and prime sunsets at Silver Beach. October paints the vineyards of the nearby Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail in fiery color, but expect cooler nights in the 40s. Winters here are snowy thanks to lake-effect snow, with January highs in the upper 20s to low 30s F. Pro tip: aim for the second week of September for swimmable water, open campgrounds, and shoulder-season pricing.
weather.gov/iwx/I'm a first-time renter. Will I know how to use the RV?
You'll be in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery, if they're bringing the RV to you) covering propane, water, the generator, slide-outs, holding tanks, leveling, and the basics of driving. They'll answer questions, and you can message them anytime during your trip. First time renting an RV in Stevensville? Choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet) to make Michigan's two-lane backroads through Berrien County's wine country feel relaxed instead of intimidating. Pro tip: do a short practice loop around a quiet parking lot right after pickup to build confidence before heading to your campsite.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180553-For-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-94, a dead battery at Warren Dunes, or a lockout at Silver Beach is one phone call away from help. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip, and you can message your host directly through the app for quick mechanical questions, since they know their rig best. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway. The vast majority of Stevensville RV trips never need to use either, but the safety net is built in.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Stevensville RV rental to Chicago, Indiana, or across into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Stevensville is one of the best parts of renting here. You're only about 100 miles from downtown Chicago on I-94, roughly 40 miles from Indiana Dunes National Park, and about 320 miles from the Mackinac Bridge if you want to go big. Cross-border trips to Canada are typically allowed when the host approves and insurance terms permit, so message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: Indiana Dunes plus Stevensville plus Saugatuck makes a perfect 3-stop Lake Michigan loop in under 200 miles.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and budget should I expect for a motorhome rental Stevensville?
Motorhome rental Stevensville fuel budgeting is straightforward. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A around 6 to 8 mpg, camper vans 16 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer about 10 to 12 mpg. Michigan gas prices generally run near the national average, often in the $3.00 to $3.80 per gallon range in the Stevensville and St. Joseph area. For a typical 200-mile weekend loop to Saugatuck and back, budget around $70 to $100 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up at the Speedway or Meijer on Red Arrow Highway before heading north, since prices climb closer to the resort towns.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Stevensville?
Book early and you'll have your pick. Michigan state park campgrounds, including Warren Dunes, open reservations up to six months in advance through the Michigan DNR's reservation system, and prime summer weekends at Warren Dunes often sell out the morning those windows open. For July and August, aim to book by January or February. Private parks like Coloma/St. Joseph KOA and Weko Beach Campground typically take reservations many months in advance, often a year out for peak weekends. Pro tip: if you're flexible, Sunday-through-Thursday nights at Warren Dunes are far easier to grab and often quieter, giving you those famous Lake Michigan sunsets nearly to yourself.
midnrreservations.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Stevensville?
Driving an RV around Stevensville is refreshingly easy compared to most metro areas. I-94 runs right through town with wide lanes and gentle terrain, and Red Arrow Highway (the scenic alternative) offers a relaxed coastal drive past wineries, orchards, and beach towns. Two location-specific quirks to plan for: lake-effect snow squalls can hit hard from November through March (sometimes dropping visibility quickly), and summer beach traffic on M-63 near Silver Beach gets congested on weekend afternoons. Sandy shoulders near dune parks can also be soft, so stay on pavement when pulling over. Pro tip: plan arrivals and departures before 11 a.m. on summer Saturdays to skip the worst of the Chicago weekend influx.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Stevensville?
Campgrounds near Stevensville come well-equipped for a comfortable Stevensville RV trip. Warren Dunes State Park offers 50-amp and 30-amp electric sites, a modern bathhouse with hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and potable water fill stations (no individual water or sewer hookups at the sites). Coloma/St. Joseph KOA delivers full hookups including water, sewer, 50-amp electric, Wi-Fi, a pool, and a camp store. Weko Beach Campground has electric sites, showers, and a dump station. Michigan state parks require a Recreation Passport for vehicle entry. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the dump station at Warren Dunes, since the park's spigots are clustered there rather than at each campsite.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/recreation-passportWhat features do RV rentals in Stevensville usually come with?
Your RV rental in Stevensville is set up to feel like a vacation home on wheels. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, climate control, a dinette, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts also include outdoor chairs, a propane grill, leveling blocks, hoses, and a starter kit of toiletries. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often have generators, TVs, and even outdoor kitchens, while campervan rental Stevensville options keep things minimalist and fuel-efficient. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities list and message the host about Wi-Fi hotspots or bike racks. Many Stevensville hosts happily add them for a small fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stevensville,%20MichiganWhat add-ons, pickup, and mileage options should I look for when I rent an RV in Stevensville?
When you rent an RV in Stevensville, hosts offer a menu of add-ons that make your trip easier: kitchen kits, bedding packages, generator use, bike racks, kayaks, propane fills, and dump-station service at return. Pickup is usually at the host's location in Stevensville, St. Joseph, or Benton Harbor, and delivery to nearby Warren Dunes or Weko Beach is widely available. Mileage policies vary by listing, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night plus optional unlimited mileage upgrades. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a dump-on-return add-on for a true door-to-door experience, which is a game-changer if you're flying into South Bend or driving in from Chicago for a long weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stevensville,%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your Stevensville RV rental happens securely through the RVezy platform, never directly to the host, so your money and your trip are protected from start to finish. You'll typically pay a portion at booking and the balance before pickup, with all charges itemized clearly. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before your trip and released after return, assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with the host at pickup and at return, taking date-stamped photos and video of the exterior, interior, and odometer. Pro tip: return the RV clean, with tanks emptied per the listing's instructions, and your deposit comes back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Stevensville during winter for cold-weather camping?
Yes, winter RVing along Lake Michigan is a quietly magical experience, and select RVezy hosts in Stevensville keep their rigs available year-round. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, a furnace, and the ability to run on shore power so freezing temps don't catch you out. Shamrock Park in Berrien Springs offers year-round camping with electric hookups, and Indiana Dunes State Park (about 40 miles southwest) stays open through winter for snowshoeing and dune hikes. Stevensville winter temperatures typically range from the upper teens to mid-30s F, with lake-effect snow that can dump 12 inches or more quickly. Pro tip: book a host who offers delivery so the RV arrives pre-warmed, leveled, and ready, with no cold-fingered setup needed.
