Campgrounds and RV parks near Sunfield, MI

Sunfield sits in Eaton County in south-central Michigan, roughly halfway between Lansing and Grand Rapids. The village is small and rural, but its location on the I-96 and M-66 corridor gives RV travelers quick access to several established campgrounds within a short drive, along with lakes, rivers, and state land for day trips. The closest large public option is Ionia Recreation Area, a 4,500-acre park between Grand Rapids and Lansing featuring rolling hills, mature forests, open meadows, and wetlands. Its modern campground has approximately 100 semi-secluded sites with 20/30-amp electrical service, a fire pit, and picnic table, plus modern restroom buildings with flush toilets and showers, and a sanitation station at the campground. Private options round out the picture. Lakeside Resort Campground sits just south of Ionia on a private lake, and Alice Springs RV Park and Campground caters to RV travelers with hookups and family amenities. Camp Thornapple Inc lies to the south near the Thornapple River, and Forest Hills Club Clothing Optional Campground serves an adult audience for travelers seeking that experience.

Public and private campgrounds use separate systems. Reservations for Ionia Recreation Area are handled through midnrreservations.com, and a Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry to Michigan state parks and recreation areas. The Michigan DNR uses a rolling six-month booking window, so any given arrival date opens for reservation exactly six months in advance. Private parks like Lakeside Resort Campground and Alice Springs RV Park and Campground take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. Deposits, cancellation windows, and minimum-night rules vary by park, so confirm details before locking in dates. For summer weekends at Ionia, plan to book right when the six-month window opens. Weekday sites and cancellations often provide options closer to the trip.
