Most private parks open in late spring and close by the end of October, and public recreation areas keep modern loops running through the peak summer window. Winter camping is limited, with most private campgrounds closed and only select state park loops keeping utilities available.
Summer is peak season. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill quickly at Fort Custer and Yankee Springs, and lakeside sites at private resorts often book well ahead. Fall brings cooler nights, lower bug pressure, and color through the oak and maple stands, along with fair-week traffic in Centreville when the St. Joseph County Grange Fair runs in late September.
Spring can be wet. May is typically among the rainiest months, and low-lying rustic sites may be soft or closed after storms. Check park alerts before departure, since seasonal project work at state recreation areas can affect boating access and specific loops.

We had a great rental experience with Jared & this RV. Trailer was clean & well equipped. We had no issues at all on our trip, but I was confident I was going to be able to get a hold of our host if we had any questions or concerns. Would definitely trust to rent from him again!

Excellent camper! Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Jared dropped off and set up the camper for us so it was ready when we got there, great communication throughout the rental. We had issues with the generator and Jared came out to help figure out the issue and try to get it started again. When he wasn't able to fix it he ran out and got a new generator so we wouldn't be stranded all weekend without one. Definitely recommend this rental to anyone looking for a stress free camping experience :-)

How to book campgrounds near Vicksburg
Michigan state park and recreation area sites, including Fort Custer and Yankee Springs, are booked through the state's central reservation system at midnrreservations.com. Campsites, lodging, and harbor slips can be reserved up to six months in advance of the arrival date, and most state forest campgrounds operate on a first-come, first-served basis. For popular summer weekends, book as close to the six-month opening as possible.
A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks and recreation areas, purchased with a Michigan license plate renewal or at the park gate.
Private campgrounds near Vicksburg, including En Gedi Campground River Resort, Hidden Pond Campground, and Cranberry Lake Campgrounds, book directly through their own websites. The St. Joseph County Grange Fair campground books through the fair office and typically fills during fair week.
What to expect on the ground
Most private campgrounds around Vicksburg offer full or partial hookups suitable for travel trailers and Class C motorhomes, with 30-amp service common and 50-amp available at newer resorts. Sites tend to be grass or gravel with mature tree cover, so measure your rig height before booking wooded loops.
State recreation areas run modern loops with electric sites, potable water, flush toilets, and shower buildings, plus separate rustic loops with vault toilets. Dump stations are on site at Fort Custer and Yankee Springs.
Cell service is generally reliable across southwest Michigan. Mosquitoes can be heavy in June, especially in wooded rustic loops, so pack repellent. Quiet hours at Michigan state parks run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., and pets are allowed on leash in most campgrounds, with a few cabin exceptions.
