Great experience, they made it all very easy

David B. - Jul 2026

Great experience with a very nice and comfortable RV. We had four adults sleeping in the RV. The bed in the back is a slide out full size, it is reasonably comfy but it does have a bit of a fold/divet in the middle which you can feel as a side sleeper, not a huge deal. The over cab bed works well and the table bed is pretty good but I think would not be comfortable for someone over 5’9”. For chilling out the RV is awesome, the theater seats are super comfortable and recline. Kitchen is small but works well; fridge stays very cold, and AC worked well and did a reasonable job keeping up with 80 degree full sun, although I think it would struggle with much hotter weather. The RV looks sleek and drives VERY comfortably, super easy to drive and confident, with radar cruise control. Working with the owner was super easy and communicative over text. Overall a fantastic experience and would definitely rent again.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ypsilanti, MI

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ypsilanti?

An RV rental in Ypsilanti is one of the most affordable ways to explore Michigan. On RVezy, you typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $150 to $250, and larger Class A coaches from $250 to $400. Prices peak in July and August when University of Michigan football and Lake Michigan trips fill calendars, so booking a shoulder-season trip in May, early June, or September often shaves 20 to 30 percent off the nightly rate. For a cheap RV rental Ypsilanti families love, filter for travel trailers and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Tip: weekday pickups (Mon-Thu) often unlock lower rates than weekend starts.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Ypsilanti?

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ypsilanti, Michigan: no commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement required for the RVs available on RVezy. You also need to be 25 or older as an approved driver, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how easy it is to legally hit the road in a motorhome rental Ypsilanti hosts have ready to go.

Every RV rental in Ypsilanti booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pull out of the driveway. During booking, you choose your level of coverage (hosts don't pick this, you do), and the plan helps protect against most damages to the vehicle during your trip. It provides meaningful financial peace of mind, which matters when you're heading to places like the Irish Hills or up to Traverse City. With 24/7 roadside support for flat tires or lockouts, you can focus on the campfire, not the what-ifs.

What if my plans change? Is there a cancellation policy?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy on every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Ypsilanti RV trip with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out your trip is. Hosts don't set the policy, RVezy does, which means consistent rules across every listing. You'll see the full details in the Help Center. Tip: if you're planning around an Eastern Michigan University football weekend or the Michigan Summer Beer Festival, book early so you still have flexibility if life shifts.

Can I bring my dog on an RV trip from Ypsilanti?

Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental Ypsilanti has plenty of, and Michigan is a fantastic state for traveling with dogs. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see listings that welcome four-legged co-pilots, and message the host with your pet's breed and size to confirm any details. Once you're rolling, leashed dogs are welcome at Michigan state park campgrounds like Pinckney Recreation Area and Sterling State Park, plus Ypsilanti's own Riverside Park along the Huron River has shaded walking trails perfect for a pre-drive stretch. Tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, Michigan summers can hit the mid-80s and pups overheat fast.

I've never rented an RV before. How does it work?

First time renting an RV? You're going to love how supported the process is. After you book on RVezy, your host messages you to coordinate pickup or delivery, and at handoff they walk you through every system: slide-outs, water, propane, generator, awning, dumping, the works. They want you to succeed and most are happy to answer texts during your trip. Ypsilanti is also a forgiving starting point: you can practice in nearby low-traffic areas before heading to bigger roads like I-94 or US-23. Tip: book a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first rent an RV in Ypsilanti experience, they drive much more like a big van than a bus.

What happens if something goes wrong with the RV?

You're never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether it's a flat tire on M-14, a dead battery at a campground in Pinckney, or a question about the awning at 10 p.m., help is one call away. You can also message your host directly through the app, most are local to the Ypsilanti area and can troubleshoot quickly. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip via the Help Center. Tip: snap a few photos of the RV's exterior at pickup, it speeds up any conversation if something unexpected happens later.

Can I take the RV across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is standard, and since Ypsilanti sits about 30 minutes from the Detroit-Windsor border, Canada is a real possibility too. Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed on RVezy when your host approves it and the protection coverage extends, so message the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. From Ypsilanti, popular interstate routes include Indiana Dunes National Park (about 3 hours), Cuyahoga Valley in Ohio (about 3 hours), and even Niagara Falls via Ontario (about 4 hours through Canada). Bring your passport or enhanced license for the border, and you've unlocked an international RV adventure.

What kind of fuel mileage should I budget for?

Realistic numbers help: Class C motorhomes average 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A coaches 6-10 MPG, campervans 15-20 MPG, and truck/travel trailer combos 10-14 MPG depending on the tow vehicle. Using current Michigan gas prices from AAA, multiply your expected miles by the RV's MPG to estimate fuel costs for a trip. Most RVs in Ypsilanti run on regular unleaded, but always confirm in the listing. Tip: top up at warehouse stations like Costco in Pittsfield Township or Sam's Club in Ypsilanti Township for some of the lowest gas prices in Washtenaw County, and budget separately for propane refills.

How far in advance should I book a campground?

Book early and you'll thank yourself. Michigan state park campgrounds (Pinckney Recreation Area, Sterling State Park, Waterloo Recreation Area) open reservations six months ahead through Michigan DNR Reservations, and lakefront sites for July and August weekends often sell out within minutes of opening. Private parks like Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA and Apple Creek fill 1-2 months out for peak summer. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for state park entry (about $14 annually for residents; non-residents can purchase a daily or annual pass). Tip: midweek stays almost always have availability, and the campgrounds feel half as crowded, perfect for a relaxed family RV trip Ypsilanti style.

What are the driving conditions like around Ypsilanti?

Driving an RV around Ypsilanti is refreshingly manageable. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, highways like I-94, US-23, and M-14 are wide with generous shoulders, and most campgrounds sit on easy two-lane roads. A few tips for confidence: downtown Ypsilanti has some narrower streets and a low railroad underpass on Cross Street, so larger Class A rigs should stick to Michigan Avenue or Washtenaw Avenue. Avoid driving I-94 through Detroit during weekday rush hours (7-9 a.m., 4-6 p.m.). Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so most renters stick to May-October. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural routes near Pinckney and Chelsea.

Michigan state park campgrounds (Pinckney, Sterling State Park, Waterloo) usually have electric and water hookups, modern restrooms with showers, and centralized dump stations, but no sewer at the site. How do payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is straightforward and secure through RVezy: you pay the rental total at booking with a credit or debit card, and the host receives funds after pickup, no cash, no awkward exchanges. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and pre-authorized on your card before your trip, then released after return assuming no damage or excess mileage. To avoid hiccups, do a thorough walk-around video at pickup and dropoff, return with the same fuel and waste levels you started with, and stay within your mileage allowance. Tip: message your host the day before pickup to confirm timing, smooth handoffs mean smooth deposit returns.
